Sony's first major PS3 controller redesign hit Japan on Sunday as part of a one-year anniversary festival for the system that also consisted of the 40 gigabyte hardware revision, Ratchet & Clank Future, and Dynasty Warriors 6.

The Dual Shock 3 was in abundant supply when we toured the streets of Tokyo as a light rain began to fall Sunday morning. We were able to pick up a mix of black and white models totaling seven units in all, no questions asked (for hotter product here in Japan, retailers will often limit purchases to one per customer). Total bill: whatever 5,000 yen multiplied by seven plus the 7,800 yen price of Dynasty Warriors 6 is.

We were quick to open up a couple of the controllers to at last get some feedback from our PS3 units. The products ship without charge, so our first few game sessions were wired (using a spare USB cable we had laying around -- the controllers don't include a separate charging cable)

Our first target: that fabulous demo of Uncharted, of course! Naughty Dog has apparently had their Dual Shock tools for some time now, as the demo has full support. You can feel every jump, fall, gun shot and punch, with the controller put to particularly good use as Nathan's life level drops and his heart begins to beat.

We also tried out the rumble feature on a few of the latest releases. First up, Ratchet & Clank Future. It took us a while to actually figure out that the game was rumble compatible, as rumble appears to only be used when Ratchet incurs damage, or when giant explosions rock the environment. There's no rumble for when you fire your standard weapons. But maybe this is a good thing considering that you're constantly shooting.
.

5,000 yen = £22.0396/$45.4868,
So about £24.99 in the UK and $49.99 in the US would be my guess. I'm guessing that we can import these babies now. The Uncharted demo would be the first thing I play when I get mine.

EDIT: All sold out :(

Should have been released from the start.

Their arrogance to refuse to settle with Immersion prevented them from doing so. Oh well, better late than never. I'm gonna need one of these for MGS4.

Do you know what sucks? The UK have to wait a whole year before getting them.

You guys get 'em the same time as us, don't you?

It is sad that we are getting excited over something that has been out for years all well. Can't wait to get mine. I don't plan on buying anymore controllers to those come out.

I hope to get one before GTAIV, at least.

Just a question: do we really need them? I loved the dualshock 2's on my PS2, and I was sad that there was no rumble on the PS3, but I've gotten used to it now, and i don't think I need one, because I'm so used to not having it. All it does is if something happens in your game, your hands rumble around. and for $50, I'm thinking I could spend my money on better things. If they made rumbling chairs, however...

I feel that I need one because I feel that the current SixAxis is lacking, It feels too light and when playing Resistance it felt kinda flat, You'd be surprised at how much immersion comes from adding something as simple as a rumble feature to a controller.

I'll get a couple and trade my current ones in, Hopefully there is a little bit of added weight to the new controllers, I'm guessing that there should be.

I've kinda gotten used to how light it is, and I kinda like it. but that's my opinion

The liteness never really bothered me. But I do miss the rumble. I love my sixaxis. I love being able to change the songs on my list from the toilet on the other side of the house.

You're not getting it on 360? For shame :(

Oh well, I'll get the PS3 version too, but I'm getting the 360 one first.

Knowing Zidane he'll probably get it for both.

White version? That won't look right unless a white PS3 is ever released. Whenever DS3 is out in USA I'll buy one black one white.

I'll buy one black, since my closest friends are converted 360 fanboys. So i'll have one Six and one DS3.

I like the white one, like the black one better, but I would've loved a silver one like they originally showed at E3.

Red one looks cool. I wouldn't like the white because So much dust would show on it, and it might eventually turn yellow.

Considering most new games now have Rumble in (inc. Kane & Lynch and Assassins Creed) it would be a good time to Import the sucker, but for some damn reason, most websites don't want to deliver to Europe, typical.

White PS3 just looks tacky.

It only looks good in black imo. Too bad you can't rent controllers to see if you like them... lol

This might tempt me to buy a PS3 sometime in the near future.

With all the price drops, and vibration, looks like a good deal.

But I guess I'll have to wait for Dualshock 3 to come out in UK.

That red PS3 is sexay. It's the same for the Wii, They advertised loads of colours at the beginning when it was called the "Revolution" But now there's just plain white :/

Slim, you're willing to spend $100 on two controllers? What the crap?

Also, they should make the PS3 in the classic PSX color. The grey-ish. It'd look kinda metallic and sexeh.

For something a little more on topic, it looks like you can snag a DS3 on eBay for around $100. I think I'll wait. :)

Yeah you can pretty much get anything painted on your PS3, a fake GTA IV box art for example.. (for anyone who remembers that one dude on YouTube :P)
