Someone over on GTAForums said that they were listening to Hot 97 (a rap station in NYC) and the DJ said "I wanna give a special shout out to Rockstar Games cuz we got somethin monumental poppin off"...the DJ that was scheduled to be on during that time was DJ Green Lantern (many people probably remember him as Eminem's DJ). Definitely not a confirmed thing, but it may hint that he's involved with the rap station.

Awesome stuff Ash... It's nice having it all collected in one place. Radio = My favourite part of GTA.

Hopefully Head Radio will be there in some form as it's been in GTA, GTA2, GTAIII & LCS. It's part of Liberty City in a way.

im very interested to see what they mean by "evolving" the radio maybe some sort of streaming, or connection to the HDD or if u plug in a mp3 player or something?

I doubt the old stations will return,The only one that stands a chance of making an appearence will be Head Radio, as Jimmy said, that has been in every new incarnation of GTA but with a different format each time. Then again I could be wrong but it is a high chance. There is another brand of station that might make a return and that is the FLASH station, that has established a brand in the GTA3 era with Flash FM and FlashBack 95.6 si it would be interesting if Rockstar decide to continue with it.

With the Xbox360 you can already do that, just plug in a USB device and use the menu to start playing songs over the game, though it would be good if they decide to use that for a User Track Station like in previous GTA games for the PC/Xbox.

They had that option of the PC version, in the settings for User tracks you had Radio (Played tracks randomly with added commercials), Random (Just plays the tracks randomly) and Sequence (which plays the tracks in alphabetical order).

I really hope they keep the custom soundtrack feature. One of my favorite parts of GTA on Xbox was uploading your own music.

As far as radio stations go, I wanna see a good rap station(This is a must. It's in NYC. No 50 cent garbage though, I wanna hear Nas, Biggie, Rakim, that real stuff.) A good funk station, and a good soul/R&B station like the one in San Andreas, with some good James Brown or D'angelo, maybe some Jill Scott.

I have faith in R* to make good decisions, I generally like the songs they pick on the radio.

Kinda off topic, but you have fantastic music taste. James Brown, D'Angelo, nice.

Remember they did say that this time around they're gonna move away from the big names to capture the vibe of the city. I think it'll turn out like GTA III, partly underground artists and some Craig Conner/Rockstar stuff.

And I have absolutely no problem with underground artists, that's fine by me. Alot of my collection is underground(Especially my rap). Generally underground is more raw, and less watered down than mainstream, so it's cool with me.

it does give the game a vibe, but it doesn't feel as real to me. I liked in GTA VC/SA with the real big artists, but i also loved GTA3's Fake Big artists, they really pulled it off, so as long as its not all just crappy, ehhh bands, ill be happy. Either Go all the way for big bands, or fake it is my thought on it.

that would make sense to me, i mean, they are stickies.

Necroposting rule doesnt apply on the sticky topics. So, you can post in it anytime you want, till it gets un-stickied. ;)

Let's take a little look at the current Radio Dial in New York, not including Pirate Stations, here are the categories that get covered...
Russian, Jazz, Freeform, Variety/Educational, Rock, Spanish, Caribbean Music, News/Talk/Public Affairs, Religious, Pop, Classical Music, Urban, Rhythmic (Dance), Adult Contemporary and Classic Rock.
Since Rockstar are going to get a lot more real on things they will obviously look at whats on the airwaves, many of the mags have said that what will be played isn't all going to be modern, well looking at modern day NYC radio, Classical, Classic Rock and Adult Contemporary covers that easy. That eastern European dance station that was confirmed, could easily pass off for the Russian and Dance station in NYC. We know there will be a talk station, always will be at least one. We can cut Educational off the list, doubt something like that would appear in GTA, plus if it were, it would be merged with Talk, same goes for Religion. If they are basing it off this charter, we can roughly assume the choice of stations in GTA4.

Jimmy_86
05-25-2007, 10:33 PM
Talking of music: "We can't confirm the balance between licensed and unlicensed music yet, but everything in the game is evolving, and is going to be changing slightly, and that will include the radio stations I think. But we'll have confirmed details of how that's going to work later on. But I think it'll be a huge and broad spectrum of music that will cover decades; just because it's set now, doesn't mean that the music has to be in 2006 and 2007; I'm sure it will be far-reaching in terms of decades, and genres."
I thought this was a good quote from the Rockstar rep showing them the game in that kikizo preview. It's a bit more than before.

EDIT: @Ash, so that was the background work you were talking about. It'll be interesting to see how GTAIV relates to those.

Added two confirmed tracks...
"Optimo" by Liquid Liquid
"Computer Camp Love" by Datarock

Optimo is from the Artwork trailer, forogt about it actually was meant to add that ages ago. Computer Camp Love is confirmed from a Norwegian newspaper, stating a song by the band Datarock would be in the game, citing this as most possible choice.

I'm hoping there will be a general rock station in addition to the metal station, I'm a rock/metal person person myself, those will be my main stations in addition to the hip hop/reggae/funk/talk stations. I do hope that if there is a rock station tho that they'd play "rock" and not junk like indie/emo and that sort of thing, sheesh that music is not good lol.

More soundtrack info plus news on the music download model with Amazon.

http://videogames.yahoo.com/events/grand-theft-auto-iv/gta-iv-unveils-new-music-download-model/1199430

None of those tracks, however, are accessible outside the game, and that's where GTA IV's model really takes off. Rockstar has boldly proclaimed that GTA IV's soundtrack is "the biggest in the history of entertainment," and with over 200 tracks, we're not prone to argue. In addition to high-profile tunes from popular artists, the developers are aiming for music geeks by handpicking rare, hard-to-find songs such as Electrick Funk's 12-inch treasure "On A Journey" and Elton John's "Street Kids" off his relatively unheralded Rock of the Westies. Some artists have even contributed brand new songs written exclusively for the game, including "Vagabond (Liberty City Mix)" by the Greenskeepers and "War is Necessary" from iconic rapper Nas.

My apologies if this has been answered, but why can't you play your own music in the game?
Too much slow-down?

P.S.: I thought that an European Video Games site had confirmed Miles Davis/Jazz Station in the game. It had a 12 or so page preview (not IGN) and I seem to remember reading that.

P.P.S.: I really, really hope there's some good hard rock music in there. Classic type stuff is fine, but something that is hard but also has mass appeal. If all possible "Better" by Guns N' Roses would be a wonderful fit. Something from Led Zeppelin.

In an interview Dan Houser said something about the news that happens throughout GTA IV. After it you'll be able to read both left and right views on it on the in game internet for example. It wasn't too specific as to whether this includes radio or anything else though.

The last song playing in Electrochoc is "& Down" by the German DJ Boys Noize!

Probably one of my favourite artists. I highly recommend his album "Oi Oi Oi". Check him out on http://www.myspace.com/boysnoizemusic (www.myspace.com/boysnoizemusic)

Then your question has backfired since the game DOES have songs in it by artists YOU know. You want to make a wild guess here, The Vibe, one of the confirmed Radio Stations sounds pretty commercial to me, with the likes of Ne-Yo and R Kelly and the whole R&B thing, so you can wait until a preview for that station comes out to satisfy the "Oh it has Mainstream Music, I'm Happy Now" need.

Isn't Daddy Yankee new? Either way, Daddy Yankee makes the second Puerto Rican group (first angel y khriz) and Reggaeton group. Wouldn't be suprised if there was a latino music station or something.
Edit: Also, you're missing Telltale by Killing Time in the L.C.H.S song list.

I like to proof view what I add to the list, the Daddy Yankee song I couldn't find it mentioned anywhere else except Wikipedia, and as we all know that isn't a reliable source, but I'll add it anyway. The Killing Time song I'm having a bit of a rough time getting a hold of to see if it is the same.

Y'know? i've changed my opinion on the music. I wasn't sure i'd like it, but now I see the bigger picture. I think it's possible that all three talk radio shows are combined into one greater radio station that has different segments.

Seeing as you are sorting the confirmed tracks into respective radio stations, I'd say:

Radio Broker
"Arm in Arm (Shy Child Mix)" by The Boggs
"Sleep is Impossible" by Deluka
"Computer Camp Love" by Datarock
"Optimo" by Liquid Liquid

They fit perfectly with the already announced LCD Soundsystem song on that station, as well as the fact there are no other stations these songs would fit in to (besides the very off chance of Electro Choc).

I like R.E.M., but wish there would've been a different song. Oh well.

I'm hoping that the Classic Rock station has The Ramones, New York Dolls, and other classic punk ilk. Of course Guns N' Roses would be a welcome addition (Welcome to the Jungle was written after a trip to New York and the band is based out of NY nowadays....maybe Nightrain?)

And I pray that they have A Tribe Called Quest, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, De La Soul, and Beastie Boys on classic rap station. Man that would be great and I'll be really disappointed if they don't have totally East Coast artists like them.

I think Axl's still a recluse in Malibu, CA; but "It's So Easy" might be a good song to include... Hip-Hop wise, I'm seriously hoping for some El-P or Aesop Rock (both of whom were based out of Brooklyn - El-P still is but Aesop moved to the Berkeley/San Francisco area).

My list of favorite radio stations so far:

1. LCRR
2. Radio Broker (Alternative rock and LCD soundsystem ftw!)
3. LCHC
4. Integrity 2.0
5. Electro Choc
6. The Classics (Might see some NWA, Ice Cubez or Public enemy here?)
7. Massive B Soundsystem
8. We Know The Truth

can't wait

Maybe public enemy. Look for more east coast rap.

Well I am very disappointed by R*'s choice of genres, hopefully the music on them will make up for it. Now that I know all the stations my top 3 faves (althought I am still disappointed about the selection)
1. Beat 102.7
2. 97.8 LCRR
3. The Vibe

Nah, he went on tour in 2006 and 2007 and has been trying to get his album out ever since. He just doesn't go looking for attention. And Axl lived in New York for almost 2 years in 2005 and 2006 and went back to Malibu to save his house in 2007. Regardless, the band played some really well recieved shows at Hammerstein so yeah.

But yeah, "It's So Easy" would be a nice choice, but if Rockstar were to choose another GNR song then it'd probably be a more less known song that's more harsh New York style like Bad Obsession or Back Off Bitch.
Alas, I doubt GNR will be in the game, but I've said that the new song "Better" would be a great fit. It's got a great hook.

Wikipedia has a few new song listings. Not sure if any are true knowing wiki. But if so, a lot of good surprises.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto_IV_s oundtrack heres the link. IF this is true, good going rockstar on another ACE collection of radio stations. Not all the music interests me, but looking at the songs that are on there, I am sure people will be happy.

I think I'd be distraught if Nickleback made it on to Radio Broker. :zero:

It also says Foo Fighters, Fall Out Boy and Panic! at the Disco, I'm calling fake because these bands really do not fit in the already confirmed soundtrack. Also, there is no reference as to where this information has come from.

As I said I don't believe it. But whats wrong with foo fighters, fall out boy and Panic! at the disco being in the game. They are heard on the radio. *shrugs* I'd have no problem seeing them in the game. But im a music junkie.

I know at GTAGaming we don't condone leaked content, etc., but here's one really simple solution:
Look in the back of the game manual and see who's on the Radio!

Then there's no need to speculate and all that garbage. You'd think that the leakers would do that before trying to figure out who is what. Unless there isn't a list in the back of the manual like days of old.

I have one to add to the Electro-Choc list.

Kavinsky - Testarossa Autodrive

I saw a gameplay video and I could recognise that electro from anywhere. I think it was the remix though, it sounded EXACTLY like the 0:55 mark of -

Kavinsky - Testarossa Autodrive (SebastiAn Remix)

I do have the link for proof, but it won't be posted since it links to a certain no-no video.

Ah, I'm so glad they added these songs. Hearing Boys Noize was one thing, but Kavinsky?
I'm only listening to Electro-choc when I get the game.

No can do, it's a dynamic system, there is no order on the stations it's all randomised and put together, it's a slightly more advanced engine of the one that was used in San Andreas.
