That is exactly what I did. But my game was so fucked I just gave up and uninstalled then reinstalled. How do you backup and what does it do?

First you make a new folder somewhere, run IMGTool and extract the files from the xxx.img file that you are going to replace to the new folder, you still have the files in your xxx.img, it's just a form of copy.
