This is from a post I just made in another thread concerning the debate over it being NY or LC.
Come on, Liberty City could be found on numerous other places besides the boat. It was there on the Ferry Terminal where the letters "L" and "T" seems to have fallen off from "LIBERTY". Also in the shot of a busy square, you can see " I LOVE (heart) LIBERTY" and I think I also saw Liberty City written somewhere in the same vicinity in San Andreas logo style fonts.

Also if you see in the trailer, you will notice a church squeezed between some twoering buildings. Isin't it eerily similar to the one we saw in GTA 3?

As far as the statue is concerned, I guess we never got to see it in LC because we were never allowed to venture that far out in the sea. Also another observation is that we dont actually get to see the face of the statue. So it could be a sort of parody or something the whacko developers at R* must have dreampt up!

If you look in one of the screen shots in times square, there is a sign saying 'welcome to liberty city'. The LCPD police car is also in the video. Seems its going back to its roots :D. Ok I haven't posted in these forums since 12/05 but I think it was definitely worth posting after this hiatus. Wow, the game looks awesome and the even though the trailer is full of details - there's still so much mystery and teasers that Rockstar is hiding from us. And I also gotta represent my city, New York City baby!! Hopefully with all the details now, my apartment block in Queens pops up lol.

And for those who may dislike the fact that another GTA game is based on NYC, fear not. Remember, Rockstar is perhaps the smartest video game company out there now. The past three main GTA games (excluding 'Stories') showed the brilliance of this company. And I'm sure IV wouldn't disappoint either.

The character's Russian-type accent only foreshadows the transcendence of location in this game. I'm thinking it's gonna span several cities to countries, with New York City to possibly Russia from this first trailer alone. And to think, there's still another 4 months of revealed info that'll show how massive this game will be compared to San Andreas.

And once again, Queens baby! NYC!

If you really pay attention, Rockstar told us quite a bit. A lot of you have found most of what I did. Did anybody notice the lift that crosses the bridge? I'm not sure what they're called, a cabin suspended from wires that it travels down. Know what I mean?

The level of detail is, quite simply, amazing. I hope these are in-game shots. The 360 and PS3 are certainly capable of this level of detail--look at Resistance, MotorStorm and Gears of War.

Don't pass judgment yet. All we've seen is barely 60 seconds of footage. Admittedly it's gorgeous footage but it's still pretty short.

I've watched the trailer at least half a dozen times now and I see something new each time. The water effects, the shadows, just the overall level of detail in the surroundings. Everything is dirty and gritty, it looks like an east coast city should--cold, unforgiving, industrial.

PS3 uses Blu-Ray which is 25GB for one layer and 50GB for two.

I'm going to apologize ahead of time to anyone who has mentioned the information I'm going to share about the trailer. I don't have time to read all the pages to find out who did. So far I have seen these cars from repeatedly pausing the trailer (the years of the cars are recent years and guessing what it would be called):
1) chrysler 300c(?)
2) Civic(?)
3) Honda Ridgeline(bobcat anyone?)
4) Mazda mx-6
5) ?(Sentinl)
6) Of course all the cop cars, taxi, taxi vans, trucks on the bridge(yankees probably) and of couse that sexy blue car.

I also saw a cable car and of course the ferry(transportation to different islands perhaps? Like the train)

I'm also positive its called liberty city(billboard on the bottom left corner that says "welcome to liberty city" about 29 seconds in)

I've seen a beer advertisement about 26 seconds in to the left with a big basketball(sport clothes?)
" " like two cell phone ads, a funny movie poster "I slept with your mom" and a car ad that looks similar to the Infinity billboards(with the two curves- that's the best way I can describe it) all in pause again in about 26 seconds.

I've seen a "ME TV THEATER", maybe thats where u can look at replay footage?
I've seen a lot of Max Renda billboards, maybe that where u can customize your character's physical features

Since the trailer-shot with all the pedestrians passing by (times square) shows a glimpse of hearst-tower through the street on the left side, and considering that hearst tower only was finished in 2006, it looks like GTAIV is set in 2006 or later.
