View Full Version : Trailer countdown on Television?

Came accross this entry a while ago.
http://planetgrandtheftauto.gamespy.com/fullstory. php?id=118366

It aired from 2:00 a.m. until 2:30 a.m. Eastern time. It was reported that the trailer countdown clock aired on the channel after the television show That '70s Show. The countdown clock hits zero next week right when two episodes of That '70s Show begin to air. Clues, perhaps?

Great coverage Asif.

Rockstar have been taking a completely new approach to marketing lately, since Donovan left.

'70s London.

Brilliant idea, aye. There is supposedly a band from the late 80's+ that's in the game.

Nontheless, Nice find Asif.

Expect lots of Michael Caine movie references if it is 70's London. Italian Job, Get Carter, etc. etc. Still, wasn't Driver: Parallel Lines partly set in the 70s? Seems strange that R* would copy them, especially seeing as there's no love lost between GTA & the Driver series.

Speculation has been saying GTA IV will be in London.

Personally, I doubt it will be in London.. I'm unsure about the whole 70's thing, but I don't think so.

Chances are the fact that That 70's Show is on during the "suspected" airing of the trailer is just a co-incidence. This has already been blown out of the water.

Last night, the GTA IV trailer countdown was spotted by FX viewers (Video here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oMheyLXhws))

More of this on GTAForums (http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=2702 34&st=0)

While this is interesting, I don't think of it as a clue of sorts. Just a spot in the airtime that Rockstar can advertise GTA IV.

The whole 1970's-to-present time thing was already done in Driver: Parallel Lines. I myself am really expecting a modern day city based on Chicago (I even think the "IV" font on the website is called Chicago).

That 70's Show ended for real because the characters went on to other things and last year's finale showed 1980 in the license plate. Plus, it's based in Wisconsin, not Boston, where'd you people get that from? Wisconsin as a state is neighbors with Illinois and that's where is Chicago is. That's about the only thing I can possibly get from this. But I still think it's nothing to get excited about, unless you want to watch the trailer on TV which might not be a bad idea with R*'s severs being bogged down on trailer release day.

My post on page 2 there (GTAF) pretty much sums it up.

you guys actually believe "that 70's show" is giving hints to where the new GTA is set? haha!

and where did the Chicago rumors start, seriously. I can understand why people may think Carcer City as a place, but Chicago seems pretty random.

Random? The question you should be asking is "Why haven't they done Chicago sooner?!" Chicago in size is the second largest city in the United States, yes, it's bigger than LA. There's tons of crime and lots of things similar to NYC. It hasn't been done yet (in a GTA game), and you could easily be doing mob jobs again.

haha nope, Chicago is still random to me man. Thinking that way, you could say why haven't they done Washington? it's your nations capital, crime an all, so why not that? or why not Texas? a big state that are all gun obessed?

what I am saying is there is plenty of reason to do almost anywhere... so why is Chicago a large factor with forums heads?

Maybe Chicago is favored , sinse it is notorius for its mob history being one of he top mob cities in the world. Assuming GTAIV will have another mob theme , seems Chicago is as logical an likely as any other place.

Texas- well tbh, it sucks. Yeah Texas is big and they have alot of big cities, but you take all of Texas' cities and combine them and they still won't compare to Chicago.
DC - wow, what are you going to do?? Blow up the White House?

You take Chicago, and you compare it to Manhattan (New York City's financial/commercial/business district) and you have nearly identical cities.

Plus yes, Chicago has great mafia influence like NYC. That's what you guys wanted, right?

70s thing could be possible ,but the London thing is getting annoying. I would like to see a modern day game. Think about it. Its only GTA4 if it takes place in Liberty City. Now I now that they usually called Vice City and San Andreas GTA4 before they were officially announced ,so their still a chance it might be something else.

Sigh..................................

This is truly called GTA IV, can't we just get it straight? It's an ENTIRELY different era from the GTA III series. They are on the NEW, NEXT-GEN CONSOLES (Wii doesn't count).

Tell me, why would Rockstar have the domain name under IV with an "IV" logo if that's not what the name was? Even when VC and SA were new, I never saw them on the official website as IV or V.

It is GTA IV, that is all.

The only difference is now, Rockstar is officially calling it 4. This would be the part where I would say something about how ridiciouls it is to argue about what city it'll be in, but whatever, arguing is fun. Continue.

Thanks for that , most are not thinking of IV as a " New Generation " GTA. So IV will be its name. Now we know that GTA- SA... just got shorten by fans an gamers , to just SA , thats cool tho :)

yeh they weren't my suggestions to be responded to, I was just giving examples of random other US cities that had just as much reason as Chicago.

When considering Chicago;
The only element that seems plausible for Chicago is the Mob side.
Which could mean it's based in the Capone era, which means we would be going back to the 60's, cars wouldnt be as good, radio DEFINITELY would not be as good.

But the diversity of the city in the 60's would be a positive. The Latin Kings would have begun and there would be Polish street gangs and then the MOB. So as long as you dont mind loosing some of the more advanced weapons/cars/music. 1960's Chicago could be a possibility.

whatever it is, I want Vice city/ San Andreas/ Liberty city all to be 'reachable'!

Yeah , your right the 30`s would be not good. But the mob in Chicago has a much longer history than just then.
Its one of the most active places for mob stories , an Chicago is a very good spot. you keep in mind the Great lakes are right there , an GTA always has water. Its a very big city with lots of things that Rock* would use in the new story. Its bigger than LA. My mind is not made up yet.
Rock* s mind is made up tho , an the city has been picked.
Whatever it is... the Gods of game making (Rock*)will not fail us :)

Actually it should be in the "Thoughts on setting" thread.

And maybe it's just me thinkin the way I do but...

The difference is that you only posted a wish of a location, the posts before you also contributed to the thread, the thread i recommended was just an example, which is where the thread you posted in belongs as well, but many people want to post without searching first.

Now no more off topic, post again to reply and i'll consider it spamming.

I did see the commercial last night though, I was wondering why R* had bought ad space on FX just for a trailer that's not even out yet...
I thought it was a message from God or something, telling me it'll all be ok.

I wonder if that means they'll have a copy or if they are just going to broadcast a stream/download straight from the internet.

I just went to see 300 at the cinema and they have a poster in there which says "download the trailer 30th march" so if anyone is wondering if it was downloadable i geuss that clears that up.

No, 7:30 odd now, it says 3 hours 20 odd minutes plus a day makes 11.
