View Full Version : The Lead Character..

What do you want, and what do you think it will be?

I'm thinking possibly Asian. In III and SA there were Triads/Yakuza. Maybe this time the story will focus on that element. (Can't remember a Chinese Mafia in VC)

Ideally I'd like a suave clean cut mafia lead character. I think Mafia style is awesome, executions, loan "repayments", etc.

Another possibility is the same route as GTAIII. A no-name character who's not really on anyones side.

Though I'd like the character to speak, tbh.

Someone similar to Claude and Tommy, maybe a mix of the two or something, but one that speaks for sure. I'm expecting an awesome storyline for GTA IV.

I'd really like to go down the mafia storyline again, a Italian - American would be nice.

Though I can see where you're going with the Asian character and story. It'd be interesting, a definate possibility.

Yeah it is. But I'm not sure if I'd like it.

My ideal would be:

White male late 20's. Just got out of jail after a Mafia sting, and is welcomed back to the family. But. You don't start off on the bottom rung. You start off near the top, and the family is killed from the top down, sparing you, say 1/6 into the game. You then rebuild your family and take back the streets, finally becoming Don at the end of the game.

An italian. He needs to be as badass as Tommy and as cool as Claude.

Actually come to think of it an Asian character may not be so bad. American Asian is probably for the best of the game though. Somebody like Woozie, with normal eyes though.

Not another Nick Kang IMO

i think he should be a nice guy mixed up in bad shit( a bit like vic vance )
he could have a nice job and wife.but then some gang kills his wife and he goes out to get revenge.

his wife could of been the daughter of a mafia boss, and he joins the mafia to get revenge on the gang that killed her

I think what scott said is actually a pretty nice idea. I'd enjoy being an Italian badass like Tommy in the Mafia.

We'll probably see Claude again. I hope we do, because seeing him in SA reminded me how goddamn cool he is. Having a talking character means you have to give them emotions, meaning that the player is distanced from the story experience. Claude's silence meant you could imagine you were him. At least, I did. I didn't start running around shooting cops though...

If it is Claude I hope he can bloody well swim this time!

That's not a bad idea Scott :) Most storyline ideas I read really.. suck. This one is pretty damn decent though ;) +Rep if I don't have to spread.

Thanks duuuuuuude.

If it was like that, I wouldn't want it to be any sort of godfather shit.

Just like GTAIII. Assasinations, hits, etc. To work your way up you have to take turf, but nothing like the SA gang wars. Controlling the businesses and drug running gets you turf.

I need Mafia.

I know what you're saying. The action player is what everyone wants, not a Godfather type who sits and gives orders instead of taking action. Tommy Vercetti, he pulled off both which is one thing that made his character so great. A boss not afraid to take risks, including his own life. In GTAIII you took the orders and completed them, that's what I want the most in GTA IV.

The Salvatore mission was so awesome. Assasinating the Don of the Mafia for the Yakuza, after he tried to kill you.

That's what type of stuff needs to be in IV.

Say, you lend someone money, and they dont pay. You go and find them in a restaurant and kill them.

I'm hyping myself too much. I still have months to wait.

A Hispanic or African American. That's as Cool as Claude and as Badass Tommy and as Gangsta as Carl...or Ryder(i think Ryder more gangsta) and a great lady's man (kinda like what Vic was to Louise).

Yeah, this is the problem with discussion of what we want before we know ANYTHING about the game. Usually no matter what we wanted, Rockstar never lets us down.

Well that's because everyone wants something different. So someones idea will come true. :P

How about a CEO who got fired for masturbating at work, gets pissed off and rampages?

Slim Trashman

I can't imagine that creating a story longer than 10 minutes :P

I couldn't see it lasting 5 minutes

Slim Trashman

Well it would last until you got wasted or busted :P

Then the credits would roll in. Ha, what if that was the episodic content :P

Scott

I'd be pretty damn happy haha. I mean, I can't see a guy at R* North coming up with it.

I'd be like "whoa, I designed the content" haha

Special mentions:
Some guy called Scott on GTAGaming.com/forums whose avatar told us to "Shut the fuck up, k"

Cop#1 10-4 suspect going down town for public masturbation.

Cop#2 He better hope he doesn't drop the soap.

Tbh I'd like a punk/hardcore character that doesn't talk much, but makes use of everthing he says when he talks.

But that will never happen.

Like I've said in previous threads on similar subjects. The character is usually tied in with the setting. When we know one, the other should be easier to guess. Trailer ftw I'd say.

Like similar to Claude except Claude never spoke you're saying? I can see how you would like that, but now I love when GTA has a really developed storyline, so I'd like to see a lot of the protagonist talking.

I can see it now, the main character will be...LB. LB was somewhat of an unknown character, yet seemed to be close friends with Ryder in GTA San Andreas. LB most likely had ties to the Orange Grove Families (OGF as you know, was made up of several affiliate gangs such as Grove Street, Temple Drive, Seville Boulevard etc. but had a falling out early in San Andreas' storyline). I expect him to be black, and probably knows nothing of CJ because we know the two never met in SA (LB may know Sweet and possibly Smoke, but we're uncertain). But he seemed to really know what he was doing, like delivering the robbery van and other honorable mentions during Ryder's missions.

It's a long shot, but hey.

How about this? A female mercenary type chick that gets double crossed at the very beginning (game intro), like almost all GTA lead characters. You used work for some Rogue general or something and the mission goes bad, you get injured, captured sent to prison... couple of months pass, your old comrades bust you out in a kick-ass super action escape scene, (non-playable), then drive you to a safe house, show you where to park your cars and shit.

First playable mission: Contact your old merc pals using phone (you dial in the numbers,or just access the names from a list)... etc..etc...

The top Don

who knows, maybe the storyline will alternate between 2 protagonists. In different cities, different sex, race whatever... the possibilities are too endless, ill just wait for the end of the month. I hate speculating
