View Full Version : What setting do you think the game will have?
Honestly I hope it's set in the 1920's/1930's Chicago.

I don't really want anything pre-1970. Horrible cars tbh.
I want a modern game set either in London or Chicago.

So's yer face.
The horrible cars are all post-1970 :lynk:
But I'm thinking it'll probably be Carcer city. They gave us the clues just like they had with San Andreas.
As for time frame, I'm hoping for modern times, just because we've already had the 80's, 90's, and 00's in a GTA, and Driver Parallel Lines tried the 1970's and failed spectacularly. And I can't really see anything 1960's or earlier accomplishing much.

I'd disagree with you there too if it wasn't talking about a GTA game.
I think the 50's and 60's would be decent vehicle-wise for a GTA game, but not the 30's and 40's. I love cars from like 1908-on, but it just wouldn't work for GTA.

MODERN DAY.
GTA IMO would suck anytime before the 80's, but for GTA IV, I'm really hoping for 2007 or some modern year.
The current theme of the site keeps me thinking of the black & white era.

Exactly what i was thinking as well... (http://www.gtagaming.com/forums/showthread.php?p= 1453375#post1453375)
Though I cant say I wish to play in that time. :(

Yeah, having the Mafia La Noire style is ok, but just not back in that era, every era is covered from the 80's till now, so what have R* got in store for us, just have to wait...:(

I really think it's going to be modern day. I really hope it will. 1980-2000 is covered, anything before that would just be incredibly not fun for GTA. By the way, just because the IV is "black and white" doesn't mean it will be back in the like 40's, notice it's not just black and white, but shiny and shiz. IMO, that hints towards modern day.
Modern day. If GTA was set pre 1950 era i'd skip the game all together

I am hoping 90's, 80's would be cool too... but more these eras from a musical standpoint..
50's would work, not for music, but for greaser gangs an shit... its a good area to work from.
For a place setting, I highly doubt it will be GTA: Chicago, since GTA3 and all the press Rockstar get, they will not name their game after a major city. It would suck to be sued by the city of Chicago.
I also doubt it would be GTA: Carcer City, Manhunt an GTA just Acknowledge each other in the games cause its all Rockstar fam, thats all.
I would like to see ViceCity/SanAndreas/Liberty plus some extra citys all together... as long as there are definite time changes to the city's, I see no problem re-using them... I think re-using past GTA city's adds solidarity to the series.

Modern day, prehaps Chicago - esque setting. I think it'd be a great place for a GTA setting tbh.
And I really don't want London :(
I think it may be in Carcer City, which is I think Chicago. I'd love for it to be a modern day Chicago like city, but I would also LOVE it to be set in the 60's or 70's.

That would be cool. I'm guessing the game will be modern day, but one in the '70s would be cool. I can't see a GTA pre - 1960s though.
Another thing I have been thinking, I don't think R* would make it THAT obvious about the location and there have been many London hints and very little Carcer City hints. Which is why I believe it'll be in Carcer City.

For those of you who don't know, Carcer City is based on Jersey City, New Jersey, which is close neighbors with Liberty City (New York City).

City - Somewhere based on New Jersey or Detroit or Chicago. I generally don't want to see it outside of America.
Time-Frame - They'll either have 60-70's or Modern Day like GTA 3. They'll ignore the 90's and the 80's. I can see GTA IV being in the modern day setting, then the next one in the series to come along as 60's or 70's
If its modern day Chicago or SanDiego ..ok. I thought maybe 1st city is on the gulf coast ,then your up the Miississippi river to like St.louis , ending up in Chicago. That way there is a big river to divide the land an lots of things a long the way. The big tower , the lake , the river for your jetmax or whatever etc; the arch , ozark mountains for countryside , great lakes an the gulf to get on the water,as well. on the river you could have Gen. lee steamship to hijack a take a spin. :)

I personally don't think it will be Carcer City. Seeing as we have already been there in Manhunt. Although it would be pretty cool to explore some of the places I've crept through in Manhunt.

Timeframe: I hope it's in either modern times or the 80s...I didn't really like the 90s theme of SA. I believe it will be present day theme b/c when the games are GTA 1/2/3 they are present day games. When the games had the name of the location in it they took place in a different era.
The location: Hopefully they'll include all the previous cities, with additions onto Liberty City and Vice City. Also I hope they'll introduce a whole new city. Someone mentioned the idea of being located in South America with drug cartels controlling everything. I think it would be really cool to introduce a small island system off the coast of Vice City...I guess they would basically be the Bahamas. This could be a place that is controlled by drug cartels and give you that lawless South American feel with that classic North American location.

I want some place like India or Bangladesh. That'd be pretty cool, I'd love to see how they recreate the atmosphere. But sadly, it's not likely for GTA IV. :(

Maybe they can do Cuba or some shit for the 2nd in the GTA IV trilogy.

Whatever Rockstar North do, I believe it'll be great and really well done. I don't really have any big hopes or expectations at this point.
I very much expect a mafia theme/ gangland/ violence kind of get-up. Not the ghetto or anything like it, like SA.

Well there is no official "font" really to represent anything yet, unless you count the font used in "trailer" and the countdown on the official site, or just judging by the looks of that IV, which I assume was really only to make a more visually appealing "IV" for the site.

It would be nice if it were 1 city in USA, 1 city in Europe and 1 city in south america. Then you could travel by boat or plane between them.
I hope the GTA IV will take place in the 2000's or maybe the late 90's.
And I would also like an idea where you follow a character through a trilogy. It could start in the 70's, where the character would be aged 20-25. Then the next GTA could be set in the 80's-90's then the last one in present time.

Yeah that would be pretty awesome, though would use alot more space for textures but thanks to Bluray or HD-DVD it can be done. Also the new Animation Synthesis will cut down on the size of the animations alot

They are, actually. Not as much as the United States or UK, but they definitely are.
Like I said, it'd be interesting to see how they'd recreate the atmosphere, traffic jams, rik-shas, 'n stuff like that. But language would be an obstacle if they were trying to be realistic.

I agree. While Vice City was cool in that it was set in the 80s, I found it easier to relate to some of the stuff going on in GTAIII and Liberty City Stories since they're much more modern.

I'm actually hoping the game takes place in modern times, we need another one, the last modern game was GTAIII which took place in 2001 (year of its release), so it would be good to see one take place in 2007 or even 2006 so they can make it accurate (Song, event, car wise, etc).

03-05-2007, 03:16 AM
my idea is for it to based in Ireland and great Britain. it could have five citys London,Dublin,Cardiff,Glasgow(or whatever the capital is),and Belfast
maybe in city based on Belfast you could have a I.R.A/U.D.A style conflict going on and you could be stuck in the middle
It could be based in the 70s-00s
70 and 80 London would be a great, the whole "no future ,Thature, every thing is going to shit "theme would be good
It would be cool if they featured a post-Katrina New Orleans in some capacity. A goal would be to establish criminal control in a city with a vacuum waiting to be filled. Your competition would be the mob, crack gangs and the MS-13's. Sort of like what's happening there right now. Very contemporary. Of course, I’m somewhat biased since I’m from Loserana.
But I don't think it should be limited to a single city. The natural progression of the game suggests multiple countries for GTA4. GTA has gone from a single city to multiple cities within a state. So it only makes sense that the scope of GTA4 would be much larger, like on a worldwide scale.
