What version of GTA 4 would you get? the PS3 or the Xbox360?
I personally am starting to lean towards the PS3 version, because I don't like paying for LIVE. I already pay 40 bucks/month for my broadband. I don't want to spend more on online gaming.
So what do you think?
I am poor and I find $50 a YEAR affordable. w/e
Xbox 360 probably, unless the PS3 version is somehow vastly superior. If there's going to be a PC version then probably PC if I can upgrade for it.

I understand, in my case I would get the xbox version if it seems better. Otherwise just PS3... wait... I don't have a PS3 though... fuck it I'm getting an Xbox. So far the xbox360 has better games, and all the people I know have it. Not a tough choice now that I think of it.

PS3 version I'll be getting, since I own a PS3 and not a 360, but both versions of the game I'm sure will be relatively similar graphics, etc wise, unless R* surprises us or something. 360 has an advantage with the exclusive episodic content, which was officially confirmed, while there is no confirmation for this of the PS3 version.
Too hot stuffs. :(
I'd rather be upgrading the PC hardware and wait.

I'll probably get it for PC unless one of the consoles comes down in price.

I'm going to do what Asif is but I'm going to build a new comp just for GTA IV. If no PC version is released then I will buy it for whatever system I will have in the future (I don't have either at the moment). Right now, I am barely leaning towards getting a PS3 but things may change.

Same. I don't have a 360, and a PS3, although it's not released here yet, is way too expensive for me :(
So I will upgrade and wait, as you said.

360 since I have one. Not much sence in buying a PS3 just for GTAIV if it's basically the same game on the 360.

Since I have neither a PS3 or 360, I'd assume I'd get it for the 360 since it is cheaper and I have to buy one of the consoles also.
But who knows.

360 beacause i have it, and beacause of the exclusive episodic content for 360.

PS3. I like to stay traditional, and playing online for free would be good.
I'll be getting it for the Xbox360. The monthly pay i don't give a shit.

All you people waiting for the PC version, man you've got a lot of patience :P I'll pick it up for PC when that version comes out as well, and if I ever buy a 360, yeah I'll get that version too.

360 baby. It's the only way to go.
I've never got along with the Xbox controls for GTA, so probably PS3.There's shoulder buttons now you know, instead of the B/W buttons.

Since I will be getting a PS3 before October I will get it on that. I just feel like GTA's were meant to be played on the Playstation. Not that theres anything wrong with the 360, but if GTA IV has controls anything like SA did on Xbox, I feel sorry for you.
Slim Trashman
03-02-2007, 03:00 PM
Yeah, but he could be referring to the "feel" of the controller. If he's more used to the feel of PlayStation controllers, it can seem very strange using a different controller. Personally, I think the 360 controller would hardly seem much different with GTA.
The difference would be in the triggers. Left Trigger is brake/reverse, Right Trigger is accelerate. That'd probably leave the left and right shoulder buttons for looking left and right, but they could be changing the controls up entirely for all we know.
Slim Trashman
03-02-2007, 03:12 PM
Ugh really? It would take some getting used to for me to play comfortably with controls like that at least. Would be confusing for a PlayStation player to switch to that IMO. However, it seems like other games are starting to have driving controls where acceleration is triggered by shoulder buttons, so it couldn't be that bad.
5tatic
03-02-2007, 03:14 PM
Trigger buttons are better for driving IMO.
And I'll be getting it on whatever console I get. Right now, it seems like it's going to be the sexbox360,
Slim Trashman
03-02-2007, 03:18 PM
They aren't bad at all, it's like that in Motorstorm (when I played the demo). Just it would just be hard to get used to after using X for acceleration in the majority of games in the past.
The X and Square buttons don't have the same precision the triggers do. Big reason why I switched to Forza.

03-02-2007, 03:20 PM
As long as they don't use the black and white button to look left and right in cars. It was quite uncomfortable to do a drive-by.
They changed those into the left and right shoulder buttons. This was like one of the first known things about the 360.

I want to rep you a thousand times over. :rogier:
But yeah, I feel the controls for GTA IV (on 360) will be much like they are with SA on 360, triggers to control car momentum, and the shoulder buttons for looking left and right.

Gotta agree with you there, it's definitely an advantage to have control over the speed of vehicles rather than holding it down harder. In GTHD they used the right analog stick to control acceleration, which also wasn't a bad idea.
I think the best option would be for Rockstar to include different controls presets so we could select whatever we feel comfortable with.

Actually, it was on the original xbox I think.
They had a standard and classic control scheme for the Xbox version of III and VC. The classic was more like PS2, but still NOT PS2 since that's impossible.

360 version for me. 360 in general is a better package to me in terms of content, features, and games, having GTAIV for 200 dollars cheaper is the definite way to go for me. I'm pretty sure they'll be identical anyways.
However, it seems to me both versions have exclusive content, and being the GTA lover and multiconsole owner that I am, whenever I get a ps3 I'll be sure to get GTA for it solely for the exclusive content.

I am going for the 360 version. I am a PS player but its gonna be so much better on the 360. See, some may disagree, but heres my opinion:
MS released the 360 way before the PS3, meaning that sales are going to shoot up for the 360, because Europe is a key part of the 'Next-Gen Console Race'. When the PS3 came out in Japan, sales exceeded all of the sales of the 360 in all of Europe, so that means that atleast 30%-40% of the people on the PS3 Online Play will be Japanese. Too many players in Europe have been taken in by the 360 and have evidently turned a blind eye to the PS3, for everyone knows that apart from a few most games coming out on the PS3 will not infact be 'Exclusive' to it. The Player-Base on the 360 will be much more friendly than on the PS3. And as people have said, apart from the controls. No Difference.

GTAIV will help me decide what I get when the info comes out, I am leaning more towards a PS3 just because I am more used to the controllers an all.
I sure as hell aint paying the prices they are asking for PS3's an 360's right now.. and if some people say well the 360 has more games blah blah.. im sure the games on either console will even out by the time GTAIV comes out. and hopefully both consoles will be cheaper.

It has no reason to though. It's still much cheaper than PS3, and that's a strong selling point for it. Plus, they're already losing enough money as is on every console sold. The only reason I see to reduce the price were to be if they wanted to compete directly with Wii, which wasn't the 360's original intention.

1. I own a PS3 and not a 360.

A long time ago, before it was announced that GTAIV would be on the 360 at the same time.
But things have changed a lot since then.
Piggus
03-04-2007, 06:07 PM
The only reason GTAIV is on the 360 the same time as PS3 is because Microsoft made a deal with them around E3 of last year. It wouldn't make any sense for them to start the project on 360 hardware if they didn't think the 360 version would come out at the same time. In the interview they were talking about the engine and how they could use Cell and Blu-Ray to stream so many pieces of data simultaneously. And Rockstar has stated that they specialize on Sony hardware. Criterion has said the same thing, and they have come right out in saying that PS3 is the lead platform for Burnout 5.
Like Slim said, it might not even matter in the end. But porting from PS3 to 360 and vise-versa is no easy task. Just look how long it took to port Oblivion and get it to actually take advantage of PS3's hardware.

The reason it's on both consoles is because with how fierce console competition is, it would be a foolish decision to only release on one console. You'd lose money.
Slim Trashman
03-04-2007, 06:24 PM
Not necessarily lose money. With a game as popular as GTA, people would be willing to spend several hundred dollars on a console just to play it, so you would still be making money, and in return helping another with sales. Previous GTA's sold many, many PS2's.

I wouldn't. I got my 360 because in my opinion it looks just as good and sometimes better than the PS3, and it wasn't just for GTA. It was for Halo 3, Mercenaries 2, GTA IV, Saints Row, Gears of War, etc. To me four hundred some-odd dollars for multiple games is worth it. $5-600 for one or two is not.
