View Full Version : Under the sea..?

As you all know, swimming is back in VCS. In San Andreas players could experience a whole new undersea world with cool sights and hidden items (Oysters, for example). What do you guys think we'll experience under the seas of Vice City?

You cant really tell. But I want skeletons on the sea floor and concrete boot bodies and stuff. I'd love to see some shipwrecks that you can swim through. It would be really great if Rockstar added Scooba Diving gear and your air still ran out only it takes 5-10 minutes to run out (depending on how much you pay).

Yes, a breathing aid would be good. That way you could explore (if there's anything worthwhile down there) or at least hide from the cops without drowning. Perhaps some packages will be underwater, maybe there could be a small cave where you swim under and then resurface in it to find a package and maybe a cool weapon or something.

I like that.
Underwater swimming will be great, like you are assigned to plant a bomb to a ship.
You know there are 3 boat/ship-wreckages and a submarine (http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=2557 94) down the sea water of the Original vice city...unexplained mysteries about them could be revealed in VCS. :)

Would be cool if you went out to sea and put concrete boots on the guy and threw him into the water too. But then again he would be a skeleton after 2 years. Just more underwater perks like that would be great. There wasn't any of them in San Andreas. You couldnt even see under the water in GTA3 and I havn't found any in LCS.
It would be cool to see the vehicles you've drived into the ocean. First it's clean and all, but after a while, you can see plants and animals on your car. Or animals like sharks and dolphins (maybe Vic dies after a shark bite. :)). And coral reefs would be nice to see.

Yeah I made a thread regarding those shipwrecks some time ago.

scuba diving would be cool, if it was used like a jetpack and the parachute
Slim Trashman
09-10-2006, 10:23 AM
Well, similar to the parachute and jetpack, as in, walk into floating icon to put on, triangle to get out, but mobility wise more flexible.

walk into floating icon to put on

and than it's like a melee weapon when not using...don't know how to explain

I'm guessing you're going to blow up one of those ships which are wrecks as shown in VC.

There was a mission mentioned in that first VCS article where you get onto a boat and place a bomb on it, so most likely that shipwreck is one shown in Vice City.

Great topic!
I love the idea of scuba diving.
If they get the water a little deeper, a small submarine could also be possible. I'd love to get around under the ocean in a mini-sub.
Seems obvious that R* will implent the ship wrecks and the submarine in some way.

Thats an excellent idea. I didn't think of submarines.

I'd like to see people at the sea bed tied to a wagon wheel or something, I'd also like to find out why there were guys in Vice City with cement shoes. I hope a explanation for that is in the storyline.
The sanken ship near the port in VC I think will take a role in the storyline seeing Victor is a marine. I'd like to explore that ship underwater. That be good.
Do you think this means that climbing will be in the game? Wouldn't you need it in order to get out of the sea and onto a dock?

Hey thats a real good point. Seeing alot of the game is probobly going to be based around the water area with Victor being a Marine, theres a big possibility climbing will be in.
victim
09-11-2006, 06:08 AM
Yeah. Climbing would make sense to be in the game. I mean do they really expect us to have to swim to a small section of leaf links, the beach and variuos parts of the mainland to get out of the water. I hope not.
Jimmy_86

I wondered about this also, swimming without climbing seems a bit odd, maybe they'll add a selection of "ramps" that dip into the water around town, or maybe there will be alot more water vehicles lying around.
Check this: http://www.gtagaming.com/news/comments.php?i=888
I thought I had read somewhere that there was no climbing, although it's not confirmed to be absent I believe.

You make a great point, as GaF mentioned. In San Andreas it was difficult in some areas to get back on land from the water without climbing, plus climbing into a boat would make sense, so perhaps that feature wasn't included in these demos. The only other explanation would be that like in the past, you stand near the vehicle, press triangle, and you're automatically inside, which is quite unrealistic. Besides, anyone who's played Vice City would know there are not a lot of low, easy accesible areas to get onto land from a boat, so climbing would be very important.

i'm with everyone else, it'd be awesome to see some more dead bodies and to be able to explore the sunken tanker north (I think it was) of town.
I'd also like to see some ditched cars at the bottom, random-spawning like.

They might not be any diving in the game just swimming, but rockstar should include climbing to get on land and and go in boats.

who remembers falling into the water near the san fierro airport and having to find a way out, with out using cheats?argh i hated that, climbing would be most welcome in GTA 4 perhaps, because the fact that you cant use ladders annoyes me greatly.

Climbing ladders in GTA would add soo much more to the realism, as Xion said, falling into the water around San Fiero airport was annoying, because the sides that you could climb up had ladders which got you back onto the runways.

Awesome topic we have here!!
All these suggestions sound great, I would like to see random sunken boats, ditched cars, dead bodies, hidden weapons, sharks that can actually chew you to death, peds taking a quick swim (perhaps some of them getting attacked by sharks).

That's a great idea! I always saw people in swim outfits and stuff, but when they walk into the water, they drown. :/ Kinda stupid...
And that scubadiving sounds good, too. :) Hope R* features that in VCS.

Yeah, that was the worst spot, too. If the Coast Guard boat wasn't at the dock the closest place was to swim all the way back that river to that beach spot.
I always fell in there trying to jump from the top of the cliff to the airport :P

Pedestrians swimming really does need to be added so it feels more like there is a living, breathing world around you. Would make perfect sense to swimming at at the beach off Ocean Drive.
And about falling in the water at San Fierro Airport... yes, I hate that. If I was playing my "cheats" game I would use the jetpack cheat, but otherwise it's annoying to hop in a Coastguard boat and drive around to a low dock. Climbing would've made so much more sense. When I first saw those ladders there, I thought climbing was included and was a secret feature R* never informed us pre-San Andreas.
Clayton
09-13-2006, 03:37 PM
Yeah.
Instead they just decided to torture us by putting in a ladder that we can't climb.
That would make perfect sense though, seeing people splashing around in the water just offshore of the beach. Would definately add a nice realistic element and add onto the general 'feel' of the game.

now this doesnt really have much to do with climbing ladders and such, but i just had an idea (doesnt happen often) GTA 4 should use more of an advanced gameplay style where if we can change to first person view ( we better be able to aswell) we could pick things up, like on half life2 where you can pick up besa bricks and crates and throw them at people..that was great, and would be great in a GTA game
victim

*Thinks of playing GTA first person*
That would be hideous.
RubberDuck
09-14-2006, 01:43 AM
really? I personally hate the third person view, but what i meant was there being an option so people can choose what person they want to see (that makes sense right?)

09-14-2006, 01:59 AM
yeah I know what you meant. Rockstar's thing isn't first person though. So it aint going to happen.
RubberDuck
09-14-2006, 02:00 AM
hmm still, its be fun having cj able to pick up balls and throw them anywhere, not just at a basketball ring, or throw a rock at a window or something..have rockstar made a game using first person view?
Clayton
09-14-2006, 02:26 AM
The more I think of it, the more of a good idea that is.
If you just started out the game, just got arrested, or just got out of the hospital, and don't have any weapons on you, and you see a drug dealer whose $2000 you just plain need? Chuck a rock at his head!
But uh..yeah. Underwater and stuff. Right.
victim
09-14-2006, 02:45 AM
you can do that stuff without a first person game. If youd played The Warriors (Another Rockstar Title) you'd know there is a very good throwing system (You can throw Beer Bottles or Bricks using an aimer that tells you exactly where your throwing them.)
RubberDuck
09-14-2006, 06:03 AM
well that would be welcome in the next GTA title.. i've dreamed of picking up a tree branch and slapping someone across the head with it or even stuff like grabbing people and smacking their head into a car window or the wall..or you could staple somebodys fingers to their clothes and make them eat their fingers to escape..damn the posibilities are endless if rockstar used an idea such as this one
.:nemesis:.
09-14-2006, 06:06 AM

Should'nt that scenario be in Resident evil or Silent Hill !!

Really, 'cause I just swam (or took the coast guard boat) over to beneath the west end of the garver bridge where there was an exit up to steet level in SF with a couple of boats parked there also. Barely takes a minute.
you could staple somebodys fingers to their clothes and make them eat their fingers to escape
Or they could just bend the staples or rip their clothes... :P
Back on topic of underwater ideas:
There could be a mission where someone has been driven into the bay and is trapped underwater in the locked car and you have to swim down quite deep, with some weapon, and smash the window to free them. Things like this, and the ability to use basic underwater weapons would make it a bit more interesting down there.
EDIT: The new Eurogamer preview says that you can climb out of water
"Vic can swim, and not only that but unlike all the other GTA games has can also grab hold of the edge of a jetty and pull himself out of the water. Apparently this is limited to getting out of the water, but still a plus."

I was thinking the exact same thing. Think.. a pig with a chainsaw.
In fact on that note (This is completey off-topic): I hope they cross over Manhunt and the GTA games. A perfect thing to do would of to have Starkweather as a director in Vinewood in San Andreas and you take a couple of missions from him. The only thing that's connected is radio chatter from GTA 3 going on about Carcer City.
Ash_735
09-16-2006, 06:25 AM
Don't forget the radio commercials in San Andreas about taking a trip to Carcer City. And other little references like the Vending Machines being the same in both worlds.

argh shit.. i cant remember the night i reached that level..i was scared shitless, sitting in my dark bedroom all alone..GTA with a hint of horror would make a beuty of a GTA, especially pigsy running around with his chainsaw..also a good cross would be GTA and hitman, cos those games own.
now on topic: to be honest with you all i couldnt care less about having a shark nibbling your balls while you swim, because i never swim, and go on, admit it guys, it would get wayy too annoying if you got eaten every time you swam..
^ Yeah, you're right, but if it's featured, it should be very common. And I hope that Vic doesn't miss a leg when he comes out of the hospital. That would be very stupid.
victim
09-16-2006, 06:43 AM
I wouldnt like sharks in VCS. Maybe as a thing in the first half of the game so you couldnt get to the next island. But after that it'd be better if there were none. Image going for a relaxing swim with Vic and his wetsuit then all of a sudden a shark comes and rips your head off. Sound fun? I think not.
Yeah, it's stupid when you're missing parts of your body. If shark attacks will be featured, just make it... Bite, wasted, hospital, respawn. No missing legs or arms etc.. Maybe they should add a harpoon, so you defend yourself from sharks when you're going out for a relaxing swim. :P
