With the launch every Sony console, you can always expect a Ridge Racer title to be there. And Ridge Racer 7 for the PS3 is looking quite nice if you ask me. Especially the lighting.

This does look nice. I kinda gave up on Ridge racer long time ago, but I might pick thisone up and check it out. Not gonna buy a PS3 until 2007 though.

Dammit why do sony have to make so many good games on launch? I have no idea what games im going to buy but if there are no other good racing titles i may buy this.

That actually doesn't look all that great for being next-gen.

yep. Looks 100% better than the 360 version. Judging on the pics though.

And that is a first generation game for the PS3 compared to first gen for the 360 and you can already see major differences.

Are those real time?

Judging from there being no jagged edges, no. However, you can expect the game to look exactly like that with a bit of aliasing. And that is a first generation game for the PS3 compared to first gen for the 360 and you can already see major differences.Year difference, more work, hello.

PS3 dev kits haven't been out that long and this is a completely new game to the 360 version and that said the developers would've had just as much time with the 360 version.

But those PS3 pics are pre release renders that always look better than actual ingame. The x-box pic looks like real ingame pic.

Cool pics anyway

Do you really think companies waited for the dev kits?
I'm pretty sure they started some stuff on computers already..

Shame I've always hated Ridge Racer. It's retarded when you have Forza and GT.

At least in my opinion.

But...It doesn't look too bad from the pics. Hopefully they make some changes.

Oh, and two can play the whole screenshot game.

Pre-release screen for Ridge Racer 6.

OH WOW

Edit: By the way, GameSpot uses a damn good HDTV capture card as of late for their screens (not the ones released by the developer), meaning that the game will appear very clear in most cases, but washed out compared to what you would see if the screen was taken directly from the video buffer.

That looks pretty decent. I still think RR7 has more detail in the tracks as well as better geometry detail, lighting and textures. Observe:

RR = arcade, those you summed up are more sim-ish. :(

Comparing pre-release screenshots is not the interpretive science you're making of it. The amount games vary visually from early 'captures' is far from being a universal constant.

Obligatory: RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDGE RAACERR!

The game's always seemed a bit silly to me, the closest alternative I like is probably Burnout.

If both are pre-release, what's the problem? Do you somehow think that the PS3 version will come down to the level of the 360 version within two months? Let's also not forget which console has more horsepower this generation...

Olin

Let's not forget that not even the PC version of San Andreas looked like the pre-release shots.

Let's also not forget that Ridge Racer 7 is pretty much just a more worked on Ridge Racer 6.

If you'd understood my post then you wouldn't be asking that question. Oh, and the rest of your post missed out on the point too. That doesn't necessarily mean you're not correct, it's just not something that can be worked out as specifically as you've chosen to from the captures.

By the way I'm not aware of the next-gen hardware having been isolated and compared yet (practically [real world performance], there is such thing as extraneous power, especially if you look at the use of server processors for gaming applications), especially since the PS3 isn't out. So it's impossible to say for sure which released console is more powerful in practice. Unless of course that's been done without me knowing, in which case I'd like to be linked to such an article (can't find one myself). Of course it should be more powerful.

Hello PS1 crash barrier texture. :/
Didn't notice how dogy that looked till you pointed it out, you'd think sony would ba able to do abit better exspecialy if these are pre rendered.

Scott

Was the first thing I noticed, because it's not bump mapped, it's just a texture. :/

Weird.

Ridge Racer really is a great looking game, it's just too bad the drift mechanics are exaggerated to annoyance.

And holy fuck Olin, finally some proof that GameSpot's been scamming us. <3
