View Full Version : Fact: Video games ruin your life.

Or so the MAVAV say. Their 'FACTS' page is amazingly....um...fictionalised?

My favourite fact was this.

Fact: Health studies have found that even those casual gamers suffer from low self-esteem and self-pride compared to their athletic and more socially accepted peers in their same age group. Young gamers were found to be more likely to become lifetime gaming addicts and becoming social outcasts.

So basically, the MAVAV want everyone to be jocks. I dunno, I play computer games oten, and used to play them all the time. I was never bullied, I always had loads of friends, & still do. It's just another reason to blame everyone else for their shitty parenting. If you don't like what video games depict, don't let your kids play video games. End of.

If perhaps they spent more time with their children instead of fighting blind causes they might get somewhere. There are bigger and better cause, and bigger problems. They could've raised enough money for a special school, or hospital equipment or something by now.

& oh man, read this:

We highly recommend your child's bedroom be absent of all forms of electronic entertainment devices.

Wow, so they are not allowing children to use any electronical device in modern society. Wow, might as well not teach him/her how to read and write while you're at it. At least you're showing them the meaning of hypocricy while your fighting your shitty cause using an electronical medium. Cunt.

Never assume drugs or otherwise is the problem for your child's poor academic performance. Video game addiction is not to be under-estimated. It is a serious epidemic plaguing our children nationwide. We recommend getting professional psychiatric help.

Shit I take drugs they havn't even heard of, and go on Halo2 all the time, and I I havn't killed anybody. Seriously, websites, and internet bullshit like this makes me want to kill people more than any video game.

& the mac daddy of all facts on the page:

Danger: Do video games make people violent?
Yes. What was once a debatable question, is now fact. New research has concluded that video game violence and behavior related violence are in fact closely related.

Danger: Do video games teach people how to kill?
Yes. When video games were linked to the Columbine high school shooters, a frenzy of new research was launched, in which, one team of researchers discovered that first person shooter games do indeed teach gamers with the basic knowledge of how to kill. This research arrived be so conclusive that the U.S. government Army developed a free video game to be used as a virtual boot camp and killing simulator.

This is a lie. It is impossible to prove anything like this, just like different tastes in music, clothes, taste. You can't guess what someone is going to like or not like. So it's totally dependant on the type of person you're talking about.

If I brought a fucking Zsuicide bomber to play sit next to me while I play Halo. I'm, 'apparently' the more dangerous one. Fuck that shit.

& fucking hell, this 'does video games teach people how to kill' bullshit. If you don't know how to kill someone, you have no imagination. I mean it's basic imagination, not necesserily killing, but stuff like that. Kids know we need food and water, so to kill someone, you don't give them food or water.

Basically, these gene pool rejects want their kids to be robots, not enjoy anything, and blame everything else, before taking responsability, and taking charge of their own children.

That seriously is bullshit man, when I play on my games for ages, people say I will get square eyes, and I've been gaming since I was 6, and I got addicted to PS1 when I was 8....so I've been addicted to video games for a mere 5 years :P my eyes are fine atm, Lol.
Actually I do believe it could lead to obesity (I'm really skinny btw, not obese) coz ur just sat on your ass all day eating, drinking and playing video games and you're not excercising. But it would depend how long you play video games, and if you excercise between kind of thing...

Yeah I'm very skinny too. So they're also wrong about that.

I don't play video games that much, I am usually on the Computer almost every night. But what they are saying is total bull-shit, even though I'm not very athletic, the only thing I feel that they are right about is the sports. But still everyone plays video games, almost everyone, not everyone is good at sports, so I actually believe they are wrong about that too.

Fact: Health studies have found that even those casual gamers suffer from low self-esteem and self-pride compared to their athletic and more socially accepted peers in their same age group.
So what about people who don't play video games but aren't "athletic and more socially accepted" like people who watch alot of TV or read/write books and don't exercise. It's hard to believe that this is a real opinion and not just someone having a laugh. Closed off from reality, they must be.

Epsilon Programme anyone? Fact: Everything I say is true, Fact!

social outcasts? Gaming can be social too. More social than TV or working out ot be "athletic."

So stupid, commenting it is not neccesary.

A cartoon can teach you how to kill. People killed eachother before video games too.

What is with these people? They never give up, Gamers from all over the world will take over one day, and we all sha'll rule. :) They can't control what people do, and videogames most certainly are not the cause of violence. There's movies,TV, reali life, books, anything, not just video games.

Video games don't kill people. Dumbasses saying video games kill people MAKE others want to kill people. So if I'm a gamer, I automatically have to have shitty grades. BULLSHIT. I'm an Honor's student. I think games have actually helped me learn.

Violence was around before GTA. Even cavemen were killing each other and the only games they had was "beat my neighbor with a club" and "drag my bitch by her hair".

That article promotes nothing but a new stereotype to our society. We'll now be seeing people calling gamers the "kids with low self-esteem, pride, and grades". GJ on that.

Oh, and I forgot to say. I have loads of friends, usually get high grades (as in, all A's, can you say that, 'professional' psychiatrist?), and have never had any problems with self-esteem or pride, and I game 40+ hours a week.

Just shows how ignorant some people can be. I wonder how much she was paid by soccer moms to say all this bullshit.

I love the bullshit these people peddle. You can see them taking correlation data and inferring cause. Like for example if you look statistically at where someone sits in a class and their grades, you would see a trend for people that sit at the back to have lower grades. Now what these people are essentially doing with these results are saying seats at the back of classes make people stupid. I believe it’s called the correlational fallacy.

rotfl i love hearing about scientists doing research like that, screwing around with parents brains trying to get them to stop us from playing our games, just because they didnt have pc games when they were young.. I mean honestly, what are they getting out of this?making people believe that playing a computer game will fuck them up and ruin their life? I remember when runescape came out, and it was popular, that game was rather educational just by learning to keep track of numbers and adding, subtraction multiplying, whatever. so what if you can kill people in games? tis probly one of the best ways to relieve stressand calm yourself down if your angry. i've been playing my computer all my life, and i still have a life away from it! I have plenty of real life friends and plenty of online frineds. these people that waste their time and our time by researching this crap should get proof before they next try to part us from our games, as what they said before is just shit

HA. what a Joke. Are these people serious? I play games everyday and ive never had the urge to kill anybody. Games are just a way for me to escape the reality of what is a stressfull life. If anything games calm me down.

And that thing about casual gamers arn't as good as jocks. What the hell? I mean im no Jock but that dosnt mean Im bad at sport. In fact I quite enjoy playing all sports. Even the sports I dislike to watch are fun to play. Except Horse Racing I dont know how to do that one.. yet.

I dont take drugs. I play plenty of video games. I have electronic devices in my room (Im in there as I type this) hasnt stopped me from getting good grades. Actually from what ive noticed people who play games tend to get better results than jocks anyway (just a generality).

Cheers

I am atheletic, i play football, have many friends and go to clubs on the weekends and i play video games as do 90% of my friends. Those facts are b/s made up by parents and socialy awkward adults who want to ruin fun for their kids or get their heads on t.v. (J.T. im looking at you). If parents actually sat down and had a play themselve's they might get into it like my dad.

makes me wonder what these "scientist" would have thought if the columbine incident was triggered by a good book. Guess they wouldn't have made a huge research on the Book/murder connection.
Because books are good, games are made by the devil...and Hitler..

Fuck them. And fuck their assumtions.

These kids that committed violent acts, they're just that. Kids. The games they play are intended and marketed for persons of age 17-18 or older. By that age, if you've kept your sanity, you know right from wrong, media from reality.

Fuck.
