D1 Grand Prix is one of the most frustrating games we've played in quite some time. The driving and scoring models are simply unforgiving at best and broken at worst. Unless you want numerous reasons to throw your controller through your television, avoid this at all costs.
As i do my little review (My first, so be easy :P) i have to put this out.
As it takes a while to get use to the game, it is VERY fun, and whats the point of a game if it's not challenging?
The scoring system i like, you HAVE to give a 100% each time. The driving, you need to know how far your car is going to slide, and at how fast your going and what your angle is.
First off.
Gameplay: 8/10
Even though its repedative, it's extremely fun, and with so many cars to choose from, how could you go wrong?
Although i wish the drifting would be slightly more realistic, you cant complain as there are hardly, if not any drifting games available on the market.
Versing a computer is extremely fun, you have to make sure not to go to fast, or you'll hit him. But you have to keep as close as possible. Lot's of cars to choose from, theres AE86's, to supra's and old Chasers and soarer's! They have the pro D1 cars, and the beginner drift-pig's. Lot's to choose from.
Sound: 3/10 (It would be much higher, but the voices REALLY bug me)
Could be better, from what i can tell the cars sound very similiar, and the commentary gets VERY VERY annoying. They have like 10 lines they say, and thats it.
Graphics: 7/10
Not bad, looks a fair bit like GT4 although the textures are fairly blurred up-close, nothing to get excited about, but the chances are you'll be concentrating really hard on not crashing to worry about the textures and modelling.
Overall: 7/10
Very fun game if you like challenging driving games. Obviously not for everyone, but you should atleast give it a rent to try it out.
Also, this game is fairly hard to come by in Australia, not sure about USA and such though.
First review, be nice and give me pointers, i may have missed out a few things, so ask me questions and ill be glad to answer them.
