You can swim in VCS right? Well, that would mean you can swim to the other side from the beginning of the game. So, is the whole of VC unlocked from the start? Or will Rockstar somehow keep you from getting to other places early (like not being able to swim until later on in the game)?
Not much of a topic, I know. But it's something that crossed my mind :P

Good point, but there will probably be a huge hurricane that will prevent you from going in the water. All bridges being closed to the mainland and such.

Not to get off topic, but it's so funny how in the beginning of the game, there's always something that prevents you from going to another part of the city. The huge explosion on the Callahan Bridge, the hurricane in Vice City, what was in San Andreas? I forgot.
Anyway, there will probably be another major hurricane that prevents you from going to another part.

An earthquake which wrecked the bridges around the state. Since you could Swim though, They fitted it into the storyline about CRASH not wanting you to leave the City until they see fit.

Currents is a good idea but think about this:
The mainland of Vice City (the west island) doesn't have many places where you could climb out of the water. There are only a few places where the land slopes into the water around the airport/docks, around Fort Baxter, and up near the dirt track in downtown. Perhaps these will in some way be blocked so that you may be able to swim there but won't be able to get onto the land. Check it out in a boat, there are very few spots where the land is low enough for you to get out.
Perhaps they will also combime this with the instant wanted level of SA, as part of the story of course.

Exactly what I was thinking. Maybe they'll have some excuse for having it higher due to the two year gap. Something maybe was or wasn't built.
And it's very unlikely that they'll just have it all open from the get-go.

I think Rockstar could use that idea to explain why you can't cross the bridges. In VC you couldn't cross because of the threat of a hurricane which was later downgraded into a tropical storm. This way, if there really is a real hurricane then it may be difficult to go to the new islands. It may work like this, everytime you swim out a certain distance from the island the waters just turn you around. That's what happened when you tried to swim away from the map in VC. That's what I think is probably going to happen.
If they use the wanted star idea again then it might tie to the plot and the antagonist. The law is trying to keep people from going to a different island in order to search for a certain person that you may work for or have to kill in the end. Something like that.
Off-topic:

I think the invisible wall would destroy GTA's sense of reality (Yeah I know only half the stuff that you can do isnt possible or very unlikely in real life,) But its based on real life and Rockstar would rather have players get to the next island easier than make a crappy invisible wall IMO. The 4 star thing sounds okay but they would have to chain it to the story somehow like in SA, that shouldnt be hard.

Rockstar would be more imaginative than simply blocking you from swimming to the other side. You can be pretty sure it won't all be open from the start too.

Well technically Vic is a marine, so it wouldn't make much since to start off around a base full of army guys, but it would be different. According to PlanetGTA, you start off in a trailer park. So the Vances weren't always rich it seems. But hey, who says the park isn't on the west island? I guess it's not though, because all of the pics are from the east island. Oh well, it's fun to think differently. :)

I also have the feeling this hurricanes will turn out like snow in LCS. Everything was hyped that there was going to be snow in LCS, but it turned out that you could only trigger it by completing level nine, I believe, of the car salesman missions. And it isn't even that great.

I would like to see what its like in the boat's and the jet ski's why there's a hurricane i remember when it stormed in SA the waves got fairly big. i'd like to see bigger waves that would almost turn boats over and drown you if you fell in. Also since you can swim i wonder if those 2 sunken boats, the submarine and man with cement shoes are there so we could go in for a closer look.

I think it's fairly unrealistic to have hurricanes in a game. Hurricanes are very nasty storms, capable of tearing apart and flooding entire cities, even regions (New Orleans, Gulf Coast, anyone?). Unless Rockstar were to go so far as to implement structural damage to buildings/bridges and the new water effects the ability to flood the streets, I can say it might look a little dumb. What's a hurricane going to be like on VCS? A stronger thunderstorm?
Bleh. :(

Yeah, and then it should be like a real, heavy hurricane/tornado too. So it would be impossible to fly a helicopter, cars could blow off the road, people flying through the air(:))and it could last for 1-5 days.
I would like to see some damage around the city, like buildings destroyed/collapsed, flooding and windows shattered.

The most I could see them doing to structural damage is just have the trees be blown to almost a horizontal state. I don't think we'll ever see destructable buildings/bridges in Grand Theft Auto.
Also, would be pretty neat to have the streets flooded a few feet, but still be drivable. And with these new water effects, things could get pretty neat.

either the hurricanes will have the waters so crazy you wont be able to swim in the them (they did want to take advantage of how life like the water is now), or the coast guard might be patrolling the beaches or somthing for possible cocaine smugglers so if you try to swim to the other islands you get 4 stars, or they just let you go to the other island from the beggining.

What the yshould do is make buying clothes quick and simple. However you dont buy seperate items you just buy fixed clothes. So there were stores scattered around Vice each with 20 outfits Exclusive to a particular store and at your house an icon similar to LCS with Catergories of the store names and 20 items of clothing under each. So pretty much a cross between San Andreas an LCS clothing systems
For example
near the beach there could be a store near the beach which sold board shorts, wetsuits and Hawaiian shirts.
In the Mall you could go to Gash or Zip and buy the stylish casual wear like the casual in Vice City
And you can enter Rafaels in Ocean Beach and buy Soiree suits and similar Yuppie wear in there.
There would only be about 3/4 stores because having like 100 outfits to cycle through might take a while.

I like that Idea my self, It could turn out like that, I hope, But The game will probally be just like LCS with about 20 different outfits you unlock, but I would rather have like 100 different outfits and be able to buy them for the fun of it, and for more realism.

According to this scan, swimming WILL be unlocked from the beginning. Maybe all of VC will be too. :\

Thanks for the heads up, sounds cool.
I doubt all of VC will be open from the start, Rock* will definately block off access to the other islands in my opinion.

Well, I really have No Idea what they are gunna do about that, there's so many different possibilitites, we just ahve to wait and see.
But if you look at every GTA game the whole thing has never been open from the start and i doubt they would begin to do it for VCS.

Yep, they will just find a way to try and keep you from getting to the other Island.
I think this new hurricane feature will be the thing keeping us out of the water, like in VC the hurricane will last untill we unlock the other islands the disapear and it will be safe to travell across.

The thing that would suck about that is that you would have to get further int he game before you could swim...

It won't though, you can swim on the first mission of the game (or so says the scan).

i think you can swim across to the other side, but halfway you get 4 or 5 stars and you get killed by the police

Maybe they do that after you kill that undercover cop. ;D

i dont think the hurricane would keep you out of the water, but i may be wrong, because imagine if there was the hurricane and it lasted until you unlocked the second island, that would be A) unrealistic that a hurricane would last that long and B) lame, considering that not matter what you do, for a short time its always gonna be dark and rainy.
i think it will either be open to you from the begginging, they will take out all the places for you to crawl up onto land, or the cops try to arrest you since they think you are a drug smuggler.
It won't though, you can swim on the first mission of the game (or so says the scan).
i was talking about the roads, they will be blocked off by the hurricane like in VC. You probally can swim from the start but just like SA you'll probally get 4 stars straight away if you try to get on the other islands.

I think youll be able to swim across but get 4 stars after. Remember, in SA they didnt even attempt to block you off from swimming there, instead the put a huge bounty on your head. It will probably be the same

They're going on about improved water effects, maybe the 'hurricane' will cause such choppy waters that you will drown if you try to swim too far out.
