View Full Version : Choose The Mod Contest
Over the recent trouble that those Star Wars mods caused, we came up with an idea that should be pleasing to you all since it is democratic. GTAGaming, in partnership with the talented modder Switch Designs, are holding a small contest in which you get to choose the next mod that he makes.
This thread is purely for ideas that become nominations. We will gather the top nominations (this number will vary on how many total nominations) and put them in the weekly poll on the site, where everyone can vote. Again, this thread is for nominations, not for voting. The winning vote on the site will naturally become the next mod that Switch Desings makes. For winning the contest you get the mod you asked for, the satisfaction of beating everyone else, and perhaps we'll see if we can put your name somewhere on the mod ;)
Now before we begin I just have a few guidelines for the contest:
- Only new vehicle models and textures (collisions, handling, etc are fair too)
- No map/building mods
- No coding mods
- Be realistic (This isn't saying you can't be challenging, but try to be reasonable)
Basically if you have been following Switch's mods, you know what is within his abilities and what he is capable of doing, and should have no problem making a good suggestion. So now I'll get you going, but remember, the more variety the better - for the sake of fun, keeping it interesting, and coming up with a popular mod. With that said, let's start the nominations!

Well, Im a big fan of the older versions of Vehicles. So perhaps a Dodge Daytona? or Maybe a mod of like Dale Earnhardts car, or Junior. Something that says "nascar"

Ya know what would be cool. I was looking at the Smilies to the right of where you write the reply and noticed this...:evil: and to me, it gives me an idea. Not that cool. but one of many.
1. Make a car that is always on fire. Maybe make it so it's undamage-able. So that you dont get confused :) . And make it almost like the black Supra. So it's black with flames. But the flames come UP from the Bottom. That would kinda be cool i guess.
2. Make a boat car. Where it's just a BOAT but on land. preatty self-explanitory huh.
3. I Dont think this is AT ALL possible but....Make a car thats YOU. Lemme try and explain. When you get in the car (Shown as a ped if ones inside) The car will be you. So that when you drive or hit something. You catch on fire or smoke. But...DAMN this is confusing me, lol. Ok Ok...Lemme put it this way. The model of YOU would be the model of the car, get it? If ya dont, dont worry. It's not that immportant. Just sounded cool to me. Thought it would be neat to see how cool it would look when you hit a jump and Tommy does a flip (while sitting...or standing, if possible). Sorry if I hurt your brains trying to explain that. :D

Well i think it should be a FULL airplane like a boing or a concord or something like that that is drivable if thats possible.
if its impossible then a big boat like titanic that you can drive.

There already is one, it was Switch' first mod
It would be cool if there was a car/boat. So that you can drive on land, and if you could go on water you could sail. (a bit like the cheat but without them)

What about a replacement for the Cuban Hermes??? You know a lowered car with spoilers, sidepipes (they are important because the flames come from the sides so it would look wierd if there were flames coming out from the sides when the exhaust pipes are in the back) and stuff like that..... Maby this Alfa Romeo (http://www.bilgalleri.dk/html/gal_visbil.asp?ID=5 003) But with a rear spoiler and ofcourse the sidepipes.......
My 2nd idea is a replacement for the Blista Compact. My 2nd idea is this Honda Civic (http://www.bilgalleri.dk/html/gal_visbil.asp?ID=5 436) A bit more styling in the rear (maby a exhaust pipe in each side) and it would be great.
My 3rd idea is a replacement for the Sentinel XS.... It's a BMW 318s (and like the others.... It's styled) Take a look of the BMW (http://www.bilgalleri.dk/html/gal_visbil.asp?ID=1 593)
My 4rd idea is a replacement for one of the stationcars/wagons in vice city (i can't remember their names) It's a Volvo V40.... It doesn't have to be styled like this one(!) Look at this beautiful Volvo (http://www.bilgalleri.dk/html/gal_visbil.asp?ID=3 647)

*EDIT* I just thought something with the colors..... It would look cool if the colors was like this car (http://www.bilgalleri.dk/html/gal_visbil.asp?ID=5 222) .... and if you changed the carcols.dat it would be for an example red and yellow.... Hope you understand :rolleyes: :p :D :wink2:

Howabout Halo:
1. I think the warthog from Halo would be a neat. I dont know if GTA can support it but in a MTA have it so the machine gun from the HUnter is on it and someone else could shoot. Its a stretch but would be for causing a crap load of trouble.
2. A new tank design kinda like the Scorpian in Halo.
3. A banshee instead of the plane. And maybe add the hutner weapons to it.

It's just plain to see that you have to turn the hunter in the helicopter from air wolf. Yes u remember, that old dodgie 80's show. With it's stupid high pitched whirling noise (sorta like a jet nearly). Badass fat flat front and norrow back. Jet black with the lil wolf symbol on the side (if u wonna), and a stupidly high rate of fire on the chain guns (double if possible). Would also be nice to see it move as fast as hot s#$t off a cold shovel, and it should always be out of control (no messin)... thats a real mans chopper:evil2:

O FuDgE me also! if ya really wonna impress people, make ya own radio station, program it to be between to others in the list, have yourself and some others as the presenters. Base the music in the 80's too. Twould b a huge file, but jus think about it, u could av sumfin sure sweet goin down. Or this could be just me :p >Goes really quiet<

How about turning some of the cars and misc stuff into a Transformer. It is set in the 80's. Megatron is do-able as a weapon, the Linerunner or Packer could be Optimus, Starscream could be the Skimmer or any helicopter. Hell, practically all the Transfomers fit into Vice City.

Theres already a heap of car mods, I'de like to see a nice replacement for the Mavrick Helicopter, maybe a Dauphin or something like it

Boats, there aren't many boats mods, the coolest is the colonel yatch, but this mod doesnt have interior. It would be cool have something like the black pearl from the movie caribbean pirates or even a better cortez yatch with interior and stuff. Then i could go out with my katana attacking other boats and taking their heads off.:angry:

How about this-give me a big hovercraft that can hold a car...maybe even a tank! You can possibly get around faster....especially if you have a tank. The only problem with the tank is that if you drive too fast on the hovercraft, you're problably screwed. But then again, you'd use the tank's cannon to devastate anything on the water! But another problem....you'd problably be having a car instead, and most likely you'll have to use the roads...and some cars are fast....but then again, you have to deal with traffic! Is this really such a good idea? Hmmm....how about we have a plane with rockets & a chaingun? Nah, there's too few....No, wait, a tank-like boat would be what we need! Or a tank that can shoot up & down like the fire truck's invisible water cannon! I had some other ideas, but they were taken....

i would have like a vehicle transport too...
but im afraid the hovering part wont fly either - cheats cant be activated by any means other than typing them in, so it cant drive on water.

BUT HELL I WONNA SEE IT.
If i woz gunna say what it looked like it must be some sorta of F.B.I rancher car but with a pickup extension instead of the extra seats, in dull dingie colours, with huge wheels (wheel spins nicely), a bike rack, sloped front with a huge kangaroo bumper, and should be stupidly powerful, not that fast but have amazing handeling.
COME ON, you know it makes sense. :)
Don't ya think that would jus complete the game. . . . . .

The Hunter should have more kind of rocket's. Like lockable rocket's, Can someone make that? probably not I think.

Nice idea, but I don't think that's possible. As for my transport heli, you could have a bump or something like that in the back of the heli where the car goes in to help it resist falling out....if only VC supported controllable doors like BF1942(yeah, I play that too, among other games)....

Brokenfish can we not mod the Maverick in general? as there is a picture of one along with the other vehicles at the start of this thread. But just mod the plain maverick not the police one or the VCN.....

oops, i think i read wrong.
the maverick youre talking about would replace the maverick on top of the diaz/vercetti mansion as well. but i was thinking about you putting a hunter there.
i got mixed up when i read this you can get it at codename vice it for the hunter but you might be able to use it for the Mavrick I'm not sure. Let us know.
so if you replaced the hunter and you wanted to put a hunter at hyman condo, then thats mission modding. otherwise, if you just want to replace all of the mavericks (including the one from phnom penh 86 mission), then its possible with just modeling ;)

Hmmm....is there a way to give otherwise normal vehicles weapons? I want the police Maverick to have machine guns, but the only way I know how to do that is have it replace the Sea Sparrow, and I don't want that. What in the code states that a vehicle can have a weapon?

you cant put weapons on other vehicles, but you can replace the sea sparrow model with the maverick if you want the gun on a maverick. ;)

Well, that sucks....I guess the only thing I can hope for now is take a game like, say, UT2004, give it an urban setting & lots of cars & the ability to carjack...I don't want to replace vehicles with weapons, I want the weapons ON the vehicles, regardless of what vehicle it is!
I guess the closest I can get to urban combat in armed cars is BF1942's Interstate mod, and it won't allow you to carjack...Maybe we can convince R* to make the next GTA more mod-friendly, but it's already good the way it is, don't get me wrong :)

I still think my Chinook-style Car Transport Heli is possible. Just hollow out an area in the rear of the vehicle to drive your car in, and try having a small bump in there to help it resist falling out. Like this-

if you fly for too long, then the car will explode = your chopper too...
hey switch, if you need any mission mods to go along with your vehicle(s), i could make some. ;)
ctead i like the transport idea, but i would mod it so that the helicopter is invincible, in case the car blows up. :p

i really doubt it. the random news/police helicopters flying around arent handled by the mission file.

personally i think the mods for vicec ity that are too modern ruin the game but thats jsut me, on with the mod ideas
i was wondering maybe a mod of the truck from an 80s tv show called "The Highwayman" it was about a man who drove a truck which had a helicopter in teh nose and a car in the back or sumthing

i definately gotta echo on the heli-vehicle transport. i know there's a big transport-style helicopter mod out there (switch-created?)
you gotta be able to hollow it out with a speed bump to keep it in place. that would be so choice. you could do the same with a boxville to roll out knight rider style.
if you say it cant be done, i think you just dont believe in yourself... you can roll a bike out onto a boat, (cant you?) why cant you do it onto a heli?
also, how about changing all the properties of a undercover cheetah to the properties of a motorcycle? then you could do police missions on a bike.

Hmmm...in that case, we should make it just explosion-proof....Of course the speed bump might damage your car, but that's a price to pay to help keep it falling out when you need to lean back! Well...okay, you're really going to have to wait a while if you're going to keep the car from falling out. It's not perfect, but it's the best I can think of right now due to VC's lack of extensive vehicle modding(applying weapons & controllable doors to vehicles, etc)....I just hope that the next GTA is more mod-friendly.

u know me and a friend were also discussing how we wish you could roll K.I.T.T out the back of a semi in true knightrider style so that mod has 2 more votes from us :)

I like the hollow semi trailer idea....would be nice for a car transport, but then again, if it's a fast car, you could get there a LOT faster in that car...and on the thing about Switch already made a transport heli, that double-rotor heli CANNOT transport vehicles.

i know there's a big transport-style helicopter mod out there (switch-created?) i think that was the skycrane (ugly heli :p) by dj-mills.

none of the gtas were meant to be modded. i think gta3 and vice city modding IS extensive. its so much farther than "none," right?
many new games are adding moddability (everyone knows what happened to half-life...). i hope gta does the same thing too :D

The problem is, that apart from the boatyard and Ocean Beach, there would be few places in Vice City to drive out of the water. If you do make this mod, then it'd be great if we could somehow modify the city to include some ramps into and out of the water.

I think we need to keep this all real, you have to remember Switch is only human, it's all well and good to say "I wish this.." but these kind of comments might be better off in a "What do you want to see in the next GTA" forum.

your right i suppose, just me getting passionate about games/80s and knightrider lol, i suppose i could just set some vehicle up, drive headfirst into it and try and land on teh roof then get out, get in the car below and drive.
maybe my idea will be possible ina future gta games mod?

I think we need to keep this all real,keep it real. and read the first post. model mods only. driving on water is another kind of mod. mission modding.
maybe my idea will be possible ina future gta games mod?you never know... maybe we wont even mod the next gta. but i almost know for sure it will be :D
hopefully they decide to make it more mod-friendly like newer games now.

the joys of pc gaming we get to use cool mods whereas people who only have consoles miss out..for now, while i was typing that i had another few ideas,
how about being able to replace some cabs with a london taxi,
or maybe change one of the buses to a red london double decker bus?
or maybe some of the vehicles from captain scarlet,
or replace one of the boats with stingray
or maybe replace the people carrier thing with a winnabago mobile home
or a police cruiser from space precinct (i know that was after the 80s but it wud jsut look cool neway)

with all the good suggestions that have been posted on this thread by myself (if i may say so :angel: ) and by others there should be some nice mods to look forward to
