What's your favorite?
As for me, I like tuners, muscle cars, and exotics.
Japan tuners: Isuzu Gemini, Nissan Maxima{1994-2002}.
Japan sports: Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Subaru Impreza.
Japan luxury: Nissan Cima, Toyota Chaser/Mark II.
Euro tuners: Renault 5/Clio{Lutecia in Japan}, Peugeot 205/106/307, Fiat Punto, Lancia Delta{Integrale}.
Euro sports: Audi TT, VW Golf GTi{'06}, Porsche Boxster/Cayman, Mercedes SLK-Class, Porsche 911.
Euro exotics: Bugatti Veyron, Ferrari or Lamborghini of any kind, Mercedes SL65{AMG}, Bentley Continental GT.
American Tuner: Chevy Cavalier, Ford Escort, and Olds Cutlass{later '80's-90's models}
American Sports: Buick Skylark GNX{'87 model only}, Chevy Corvette, Dodge Viper, Saturn Ion{Red Line}, Ford Mustang, Shelby Cobra, Chevy Camaro.
American Muscle: Dodge Charger, Chevy Chevelle, Plymouth 'Cuda, Olds {Starfire/Cutlass} 4-4-2, Any Cadillac{1963-1972}, Chrysler 300C, Cadillac XLR, Buick Skylark GSX, Chevy 409, Pontiac GTO.
American Exotic: Saleen S7TT, Shelby Aero SSC{Have you ever heard of it?}.
Global Tuners: Honda Civic, Datsun 240/260/280Z, Nissan 300ZX{1983-2001}, Toyota Celica, Honda Accord.
Global Sports: Toyota Supra, Lotus Seven{Built under different names all over the world}, Infiniti G35{Also built as some Nissan model in Japan, forgot its name}.
Global Exotics: Acura/Honda NSX.
Unknown: Skyline GT-R{Probably should go in the 'Global' section, not sure though}, VW Beetle.
Other: Holden Monaro, Ford Falcon{both Australian, btw}.
Special Note: The automotive version of the term 'global', as I learned, refers to a car that is built in more than one nation{the Honda Civic and Toyota Celica are two examples AFAIK}.
And if you want to flame someone, please reserve that for PMs.
{I don't know if this is in the right place, can someone please move it if it isn't?
I don't wish to break the rules, that's all.}
I know some of you may think I have strange tastes, but..........
It shouldn't matter.

American Exotics for me.
Vipers, Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, the works.(Even though those are Italian:P)
Ferrari isn't american, it's an Italian car. Dunno about the other's.
Favorite would have to be American Muscle.

Iīd go for anything Japanese. To be honest, Japanese cars (for me) are the best to drive. Very efficiant and cost-friendly. As for American cars, and this is just me, but theyīre not so good. I donīt know why people keep buying them. Itīs like...reelecting Bush (which was done -_-). Then again, thatīs just me. Iīll be honest, I do like how the old American cars looked. But all in all, if I ever get myself a car for Highschool or College, itīd be a Toyota or Honda.

Twisted, not every american car has a V8 in it you know? You do get some efficient America cars out there.
For me, European Exotics all the way. American muscle just sucks. Where I live if you had a powerful car that steers like a boat then I wouldn't drive it. :P

Hehe, yeah. I think I mightīve worded it a bit wrong :P I guess what I meant to say was about the American Muscles. Actually, now that I remember, the Chevy Caveliere (I know I spelled that wrong...and Iīm talking about the new ones) was a pretty good car.
īTwas too early, though. SO I wasnīt thinking straight (let alone picking my wording correfctly), but you got the point I was trying to make (with the American muscles).

I am joking but you get my point.

I like all types (mainly American, though).
American Exotic - The Viper
American Tuner - The Cobalt
American Muscle - The 1970 Chevelle
Italian Exotic - Lamborghini, Ferrari, Pegani
Italian Luxury - Alfa Romeo, Fiat
Japanese Tuner - Mazda RX-7, Nissan Skyline, Toyota Supra
European Luxury - Mercedes, BMW, Porsche
There's all kinds of cars out there that I like. Out of all of them though, I'd be most happy with a Cobalt SS, you know, something I can drive everyday that has a little kick to it, but it's not near impossible to drive. I'd like to have a Viper or Ferrari F430 or Lamborghini Gallardo, but what would I do with them? :P

That's a lie. They have productions in each major city or so. They all use PROPER parts. That would be misleading to use an american part in a japanese sports car, wouldnt it?
@McKlutcho: Alright, I hope you ain't wrong.
Dont think ive ever heard of a Japanese car breaking down straight after buying it. (Unless it was one of the first off the production line)
Mousey
07-29-2006, 03:56 AM
japanese arent exactly so reliable as people say. klutch just said about cars braking down just after buying it. we get tonnes of cars in a week with part recalls because between a certain chassis number and another, all these vehicles have had a problem because of a fitted part it was built with, needs to be changed because there is a problem with how it was built, usually about a 5000 batch off the production line.
But they DO use all proper parts, no matter where you go.
Who the hell said about lifting the engine out to get at spark plugs too? spark plugs are at the top of the cylinders matey :) the biggest engines i work on, are 4.3 v8's in the lexus gs/ls/sc 430's and i dont have to lift an engine i get at them, or maybe you dont realise, on most modern cars, there is like a little plastic cover on the top of the engine, to make it look pretty.
NO CAR is 100% reliable unless it is looked after. Had a gs300 come in with 300,000 miles on the clock, nothing wrong with it, only problem was that the radiator had a leak. Had another gs300 with 60,000 miles that had never been serviced, it ran ok, but there were so many problems that needed doing on it.

Has anyone ever owned a Skyline?
I, myself do not own one. But ive got plenty of friends who do.
Which are you referring to?
R31?
R32? GT-R, GT-S, GT-T?
R33? GT-R, GT-S, GT-T?
R34? GT-R, GT-S, GT-T?
You can't just say "Has anyone ever owned a skyline" there are heaps of models.
From what ive gathered.
R31, is a good starter project for a drifter/dragging. But it's a big big BIG money sink as its an extremely old car.
R32, if your importing from japan, almost all odometres have been wound back. If its been modified, the chances are that its been extremely thrashed to the shit-house.
R33, Good track racer, nice drifter, slightly heavier then the R32.
R34, Powerful, but restricted alot. ALOT heavier then a R33, but tis got the gadgets to make up for it.
GT-R, Good for track and drag racing, seeing as its AWD.
GT-S, The standard version, RWD, if your looking for a project cars, i suggest this.
GT-T, Turbo version, RWD version, not exacly something you would want if you just got your license. Very un-predictable in the wet.
But, as that being said. each year and different model has its different aspects.
R34 has the RB26? and the R33/R32 has the RB25
Either way, R33 skylines and below are great cars if you got the time to work, and put them up to scratch.
And from what can tell, Americans never got the Skyline, or Silvia range. That's why i love Australia, we got the best of both worlds.
Edit: Holey shit, didnt realise i had typed up so much. feel free to read it, if you can be bothered.

How exacly are you going to fund a drag car? Im guessing you only just got your license?
And you need a trailer, so buy/hiring one becomes expensive, but it wont be near as expensive as a drag car.
Edit: God damn these time-zones.
Huey_Pilot
08-18-2006, 12:06 AM
I recieved my license when I was 16, and I have a job to fund the project. Sure, its only minimum wage but this is a project, not expected to be done overnight. I plan to spend about $1,500 on a car and probably put $1,000 or $1,500 into the engine, and all of the other parts that I will need (rear end, trans., tires). Its going to be street legal so no trailer needed. I plan to just race at a local strip for fun, nothing fancy really. I'll just be adding to it overtime, but I don't plan on spending more than $6,000. Just build my own engine, no need for a pricey crate engine.

Heh, my mums ex-bf's brother had one.
Green, blue, purple Pearlesceant paint with a chrome drop-tank and a massive V8 along with the flared guards and everything.
Made the floor rumble, and the tyres were the widest i had ever seen on a street legal car. Did the sickest burnouts.

Seriously, Holden are for bogans, lol
Static: It looks like its mostly surface rust, also the rear tail light area is alot of rust, so chances are theres ALOT through-out it.
And with windows are open, so you would have to re-do the whole interior and motor and wiring.

Klutch <3
Most people that see a pic of a car in that sort of condition are like "OMG are u kidding that's a piece of shit lol", +rep
Yeah, I checked the body on it, and what's there is very fixable. There's really no through rust anywhere, the frame is solid and the floorboards are good. There's also no collision damage. Odds are, you'd find some weak spots after sanding it down, but still.
It'd be an easy restoration bodywork-wise for me, I grew up helping my dad do that shit, and he's brought cars back from the dead that were in much worse condition than that.
Of course the wiring would be shot from exposure and mice and whatnot, but there's no seats in it to be ruined, all that's there is the dash, no carpeting either. (Which is good, as carpeting holds moisture onto the floorboards causing them to rust out faster.)
All that aside, it's just plain too beautiful of a car for me to see rust away into nothing. It's a factory 409 car too, though the motor froze up which is why it's in the junkyard in the first place.
Besides, there are some actual lost causes in the junkyard. Just look at this Chevelle:
http://img453.imageshack.us/img453/4014/zchevellei s6.jpg

Anyway, back on topic. Clayton, that will take a lot of money to rebuild :P
Yeah, but I can see it looking great when done.
Clayton, could you post up the '70 Ford Torino? I love them.

At least it's dead in a cool position, the convertable top half-up, I mean.

Not a fan of most american muscle cars, but each to his/her own

All that's left is the shell. There are barely any floors, and the frame's ate up.
I love the color scheme, it used to be a gorgeous car, but the only positive thing I can say about it now is that at least it looks like a lot of it's parts went on to help restore or fix other Camaros.

About the '58 Oldsmobile, that one's my bad, it's actually a '58 Buick, either a Century or a Riviera.

And the Firebirds are both absolute amd complete wrecks. Which makes me sad or pissed or something, because the tremendous amount of body damage on both looks to have been suffered by being shunted around the yard rather than a collision that sent them there.

And '67 Firebirds are fantasic cars.

A junkyard about 45 minutes away from my house.
And Northstar, aside from the ones I've already posted for others on the page before this, here they are:
195(3?) (GMC or Chevrolet) Towtruck (Has a hell of a lot of character, I may end up owning this one later on in life)
http://img48.imageshack.us/img48/4927/stowtruckft5 .th.jpg (http://img48.imageshack.us/my.php?image=stowtruck ft5.jpg)

198(6?) Ford Ambulance (I wanted to poke around in the back of this thing, but it was just too darn creepy.)
http://img112.imageshack.us/img112/2786/zambulance mf8.th.jpg (http://img112.imageshack.us/my.php?image=zambulan cemf8.jpg)
1975 AMC Gremlin (Has a bitchin' drag-style hood scoop on it and a blown 390 big-block)
http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/9562/zamcgremli npp8.th.jpg (http://img241.imageshack.us/my.php?image=zamcgrem linpp8.jpg)

Ford Crown Victoria Sherriff's car (Really surprised nobody's bought the cop-issue high-performance engine out of this one)
http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/3180/zdeadcopca rzi5.th.jpg (http://img116.imageshack.us/my.php?image=zdeadcop carzi5.jpg)

Right-hand drive Jeep mail truck (I just plain find this thing cool)
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/2619/zrighthand drivemailtruckjt5.th.jpg (http://img167.imageshack.us/my.php?image=zrightha nddrivemailtruckjt5.jpg)
VW Van 1

VW Van 4 (http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/908/zvwvan4to2 .jpg)
I thought it was a ridiculous good find when I saw one VW Van :P
