so... wich one is better? GTA3 or Vice City? Or maybe both?
I'd say both, cause GTA3 has a really dark, grey atmosphere, especially Portland. And look at the caracter, he really looks like a Criminal.
But Vice City has great vehicles, the abillity to fly, and more, better weapons (exept the AK-47, man I liked that one). But it's a peacefull looking city, and without any hills to make any insane jumps.

What do you think?

I liked GTA 3 more, and it beats Vice because of its originality and that Vice is basically the same as GTA 3 with some improvements.

Gta3 broke the grounds for vice city. vice city wasnt was as sucessful because we all did everything in gta3 (car surfing, running around beating old ladies, etc.) so the replay value in vice wasnt as high

I like Vice City more right now, when I decide to start GTA 3 over again, I stop playing after 10 minutes because it's to boring. The vice city missions are way better, but I can't play that so long, cause my game crashes alot.

Afraid I still haven't played VC yet, but GTA3 is my favourite amongst the rest. I still play GTA2 occasionally; I quite liked the near future style setting.

GTA3 is better, but Vice City has more features. I have played on GTA3 more than VC. I liked the setting in the city, i tihnk that Vice City did not have a good enough setting, mainly because it was set in the 1980s!

GTA3 is just getting boring faster then Vice City, because there aren't so many vehicles. only cars. And the sea isn't nice to see, so you won't take a boat as fast as in Vice.

I don't think you'd get anywhere on those, smaller forms of transportation probably won't be in the game like bicycles, skateboards and rollerblades.

Actually, he meant a bicycle like a dirt bike, as in Matt Hoffman, the pro BMX biker sort of. The Sanchez is actually a motorcross bike.

I liked both games but i feel that gta3 is just all around better. It had funnier peds, Better gangs, and a bigger city. Vc's flying and motorcycles cannot makeup for gta3 being all around a better game. I just thought vc was too short and didnt really have much of a story line. The gangs were also pussyfied, the haitians were the only gang that would attack you. On gta3 you had the mafia, triads, yardies, and cartell on your ass everytime you rode through there turf. On gta3 you actually had to work to unlock islands and on vc it only took like and hour to unlock all of them. I just hope the next gta is more like gta3 and has a good story line and a massive city to explore

I really hate these "which is better, VC or 3?". First of all, 3 was in a different time pierod with computers a little slower. [Even though it has only been 2 years] 3 was a big jump as it is from the 2d GTA2. A leap of the same size is seen from 3 to VC. 3 had one of the most advanced citys of the year also. Alot of 3 was taken into VC even when they say VC is a totaly different game and was added from that and added a fresh new look, [kinda like the Windows 98 to XP change].

Okay, suppose I'll contribute now I've played both.

I definitely prefer Vice City and I haven't even finished it yet.

The storyline is so much better, it's far more cinematic and there's a lot more dialogue and detail.

The missions are superior and I find a lot more varied and realistic than GTA3 (i.e. you don’t tend to get time countdowns for no reason in Vice City – if a mission is timed it'll have a good excuse for being so.)

The engine tweaks are great fun too – practically everything I was wishing had been in GTA3, showed up in VC (Smashing cars with mêlée weapons, popping tyres, jumping out of cars etc.) I particularly loved the police stingers - fantastic touch.

The Gameplay alterations in VC are also fantastic, anything from buying property to small things like changing clothes. Really makes the whole experience a lot more rich and immersive.

I do have one or two qualms – for starters I don't think the architecture on VC looked as good as GTA3. GTA3 had quite a realistic, 'busy' look to it, but Vice City seems really small in that the roads seem narrower and buildings too small. (Heck, Tommy is almost as tall as some buildings.)

Having said that, I found it far easier to navigate in VC and it didn’t take as long to learn the map. The GTA3 layout still confuses me from time to time.

Also, the music in VC is excellent, but that probably goes without saying.

Yeah, I only got 90-something% on GTA3 then gave up. The only thing I had to do was the paramedic/vigilante missions, which I just don't have the patience for.

I found them pretty easy on VC though, so I got them done and out of the way quite early on.

I'd say I think VC is better than gta3 for a lot of reasons, the detail put in gta3 was great but the extras in VC make it that much more fun like being able to run past a police car and smack in the door on the way or shooting out tyres and so much more weapons (yey!). Buying properties is good as well and it seems easier to learn the whole of VC than gta3, I still don't know how to get to places on gta3 and of course the bikes, I barely use cars because of them now.

There was some things i prefered in gta3 though such as having more gangs around and mafia sentinels and the diablo stallions were great, in VC they just don't to have made as much effort with the different gangs. I don't like it being set in the 80's either, I don't like the older types of cars much, I prefered the more modern cars like in gta3.

GTA3 is better, I mean Vice City is kindof small compared to GTA3, its like GTA3 had 3 islands, but vice had like 5, but theres one problem, one island is the tiny Starfish Island, 2 islands are like the Leaf Links Golf Course, and the other 2 islands are the 2 main islands, and they're not that great, GTA3 was also better in story, and I like the mission cutscenes in GTA3, like how you'd see "the guy" go into the little elevator thingy and go up the rail to the floor in the Panlantic building to find Catalina and Miguel

also, GTA3 had a patriot in normal colors, Vice had 2 patriots, exactly the same color, only you could get one with a covering on the back, whoopee!

and I don't know, but I reside in the state of New York, and I like going into the city, and I can do that in GTA3 when I go to Staunton, GTA3 remains my favorite

Yeah the commercial destricts of Staunton Island are way better than the area by the Hotel.
Doing Taxi missions is way more fun in GTA3, actually it sucked in Vice City.

vice city missions are so much better than gta3... all that you do in gta3 seems to be killing someone...
plus you can do more in vice city(plane,assets, etc)
but gta3 has a better map...and more gangs

gta2 owns you all due to the fact that it is gta3 but really fun, what with the exploding scores and all. aside from 2: Gta3 had better city, story and fido seemed like a real criminal, tommy looks like a tourist.
Of coarse vice had better gameplay, with property, clothing etc.
but what happened to the elvis clans? bring them back, and how come you cant do the top-down camera mode in VC? argh.
also gang-respectometer and the auto-shop was very cool.
i hope to see the return of the GURANGA and vehicle mounted machineguns/oilslick/mine.

I think gta3-and gta vc own all i hate the bird eye few i think its so dumb it doesnt give you the real feel for the game....too boring..

I dont think the birds eye view works well. It was quality when GTA1 came out, but I always found out it zoomed in too close. Driving at any speed higher than dangerous left you only having milliseconds to react when the oncoming traffic appeared in front of your car. You should have been able to manually zoom out loads.

As for my choice between VC or 3, I loved both and still do. But i rekon cause VC is fresher and new, it is my personal favorite at the minute. Especially with the helicopters and bikes. They were the final touch for me. Take these out, and i think GTA3 would still be my fav.

Bloth games are fu**ing awesome anyway. Freeform games are the best

You have to remember that for it's time, GTA was a classic in it's own right. No one had ever done a full city like that before, with the free roaming aspect it provided. The game was also relatively unsuccessful compared to it's 3D Counterparts, so DMA did a great job of staying afloat during the tough times.

i agree mouldy, the atmosphere was too grim, but it worked with the story line, and the missions were definately easier. Vice city can be completed in like a day if you tried.

I play video games for the atmosphere to a certain extent. The scenery in Vice City is pleasing to the eyes (unless you're a goth kid or wannabe gangsta). I mean come on....there was nothing like a golf course, mall, or walk-in police station in GTA3. Both islands in VC are awesome, unlike Liberty, where the third island sucked. Certainly, there are things that you can appreciate about Liberty City, but Vice City crushes it. Not to mention that Vice City WAS more gangster than GTA3. In case you didn't notice, the drug mansion is straight outta Scarface (you know? that 80's movie with pacino) and Vercetti's voice is played by Ray Leoda (From Goodfellas). If anyone thinks that the plot of GTA3 is better than that of VC, they need a sobriety test. hahahaha :)
