The Roman Catholic Church in Italy has spoken out against what it says are "shameful and unfounded lies" in the best-selling novel The Da Vinci Code.


Wow. Aren't they taking it a bit too far? It's just a book.

Exactly, it's just a story. It's not as if Dan Brown is going around saying this is what really happened. Or maybe the Roman Catholic Church is afraid that people will think it is true...

It is just a book, maybe it is true and they want to cover it.

Well since the statement is coming from people who think Harry Potter books are "dangerous because they promote heresy",you can't be too surprised to hear something like this.

It's technically "fiction." However alot of things in it are supposed to be presented as fact. The writer said it's a blend of fact and fiction. His problem is he never specified what was what.

Any-who.... The church is ridiculous. It's always been ridiculous. Always will be.

i agree with cyrix. the catholic church thinks everything is shameful. thats why i dont go to church. my god dosnt think literature is shameful he dosnt god dosnt think your going to hell for going against the church. the church is going by what was written thousands of years ago. but they contradict themselves far to much . the main message in the bible is " love thy neighbor" not love thy neighbor unless there gay, divorced, a criminal, open minded. you see what i'm sayin here?

the reason they're so upset is because dan brown actually believes those things and is tellin people they're true. things that are what the catholic church stands for like the fact that jesus christ was God, but in the da vinci code he says that he was only a man. now obviously based on your beliefs this may or may not be a big deal. i'm a christian but its only fiction so i plan on seeing the movie. tom hanks is a really good actor

Ahh, actually just saw the controversey report on the news a few minutes ago, and being a Christian myself...I don't care. I'll still see the movie, as some of you are saying, Hanks is a great actor.

Well, It is interesting the book is based on some facts ,but like some of you said they are not true. I have both Demons & Angels ,and the Da Vinci Code ,but I don't take them literal. I suggest you read them they are pretty good. Another problem was how they portrayed some monks ,they look like the guys from resident Evil 4 in that movie rather then what they really look like. "Normal people"
