Starting off

1.GTA San Andreas System Requirements

You need to make sure you computer can run San Andrease. Theese are the Requirements.

Recommended System Requirements:
Intel Pentuim 4 or AMD XP Processor (or better)
384MB RAM
16x Speed DVD Drive
4.7GB Hard Drive Space
128MB Video Card
DirectX 9 compatible sound & video drivers
Keyboard, mouse or game pad

Minimum System Requirements:
1GHz Pentuim III or AMD Athlon
256MB RAM
8x Speed DVD Drive
3.6 GB Hard Disk Space
64MB Video Card
DirectX 9 compatable sound & video drivers
Keyboard, mouse

2.Backing Up

Before you do anything to the game, back up the files you are going to mod. I usally copy the GTA folder and rename it "Normal San Andreas" And that is good because you can play MTA and SA-MP with the normal version and play it modded with the foloder you are going to mod. If you have minumum space just back up the files you need.

ALWAYS BACK UP EVEN IF ITS A HASSLE

3.Installing the mod

There are a couple of ways to install mods in to San Andreas, you can do it the normal way using IMG tool, or there are some Auto mod installers. I will show you how to use each one. (In this guide I am only showing how to install cars.)

Method 1: Using IMG Tool

1. Download img tool from the link here (http://www.gtagaming.com/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=1105)

2. Download a car from here (http://www.gtagaming.com/pafiledb.php?action=cate gory&id=49)

3. Read the read me, which should have the handling and other things wich you will need too. It should also say what mod you need to replace. So go into GTA3.img , wich normal should be in Rockstar Games/ San andreas/ Models

4. Now what ever car you need to replace find in there and delete it. In the ZIP file you downloaded there should be 2 files wich should be .dff and .txd and extract them and then go into img tool, go to edit find and search for example.dff and delete it. Then add the one you downloded. Then go to example.txd and do the exact same thing!

5. Now all you have to do is replace the handling. Open handling.cfg in /data with Notepad in the read me there should be a name of a car then lots of numbers, example

PHOENIX 5000.0 20000.0 2.2 0.0 0.1 -0.15 85 0.7 0.9 0.52 5 200.0 26.0 5.0 R P 6.0 0.55 0 30.0 0.8 0.08 0.0 0.28 -0.24 0.59 0.4 0.25 0.1 350000 20286000 00708403 1 1 0

Now if yours sais Land Stalker or somthing else search that in the noteoad using ctrl + f. Once you find it copy the one in the read me and highlight the other one and paste to replace. Then 0pen carcols.dat in /data with Notepad (again) and in the readme most of the time there is another thing that has the name of a car and a couple of numbers. Not usally much. And do what you did with the handling and it should be installed!

Method 2 Self Mod Installers

There are 2 main Mod installers

Self Mod Installers GTA Garage Mod Maneger (http://www.gtagaming.com/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=1218) and San Andreas Mod Installer (http://www.gtagaming.com/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=1352)

GMM

GMM is simple.

1. Download GTA Garage Mod Maneger (http://www.gtagaming.com/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=1218)

2. Once downloaded Install it.

3.Download a GMM mod from here (http://www.gtagaming.com/pafiledb.php?action=cate gory&id=55)

4.Run GMM

5.Click on installer then click on install a car package. Select the car you want to install. Then a Car Mod discription and click on install. And then the new window show open and click ok. And it should be installed!

San Andreas Mod Installer

This one is another automatic mod installer.

1.Download San andreas mod installer here (http://www.sanandreasmodinstaller.com/index.html)

2. Once downloaded install it.

3.Run it. Click on Install a mod.

4.Select your San Andreas Directory, where you installed it too. It should usally be C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas\

5. Then on the second one select the mod you downloaded. Wich should be in a ZIP folder. Then click continue. The Handling should be there automaticly if not get it from the readme in the zip file. The press Continue again. Type the name of the car you are installing and the car it is replacing. If you don't know which one to replace just look in the ZIP and look at the .dff and what it is called. Then install it! And its done.

Installing cloths

1st. Download img tool from the link here (http://www.gtagaming.com/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=1105)

2. Download the cloth mod

3. Go to San Andreas Directory and then modles. Go to Player.img

4. In the Zip you downloaded there should be a (or more) .txd files. Remember the .txd file name.

5. In image Tool go to edit, find and type the file name in. Once you have it selected delete it. Add the .txd file in the zip. and it should be done!

Installing Weapons

1.Download weapon mod from here (http://www.gtagaming.com/pafiledb.php?action=cate gory&id=50) or another website.

2. Open the .zip file.

3. Look at the file and see what the name is.

4. Open GTA3.img in that will be in the modles folder in the San Andreas Directory.

5. Search for the file that is in the zip. (not the readme)

6. Delete the one in the gta3.img

7. Add the one in the Zip file. It should now be installed!

4.Tips

-Make a copy of your whole San Andreas before installing mods you can use it as back ups and for MTA!

-Make a foldor where you keep your mods. You can have a Folder called GTA mods. In there add a foldor called GMM Mods, Weapons, Cars, Installers, Total Conversions, ect.

-Try too look for total conversion mods wich are much less of a hassel to install and usally replace more cars that you would of done your self.

- Look at more than one site for all your mods.

-If there is somthing that shows views or rating look for the mods with the highest ones!

5.My Mods arn't working!

First thing you need to know is if you have the second version of San Andreas you CANNOT install mods. If you baught the game recently that should be your case. Well if you have the first version and your mods arn't working just use the back up you should of made of the .dff or .txt and install them like you did with the mod or if you made a copy of gta3.img delete the one with the mod and replace it with the back up. But if you do the replace the gta3.img you will lose all your mods! But if you didn't back it up you can download them from here (http://gta-sanandreas.com/downloads/pafiledb.php?action=categ ory&id=4) . If you don't want to download it then you will have to reinstall it or try to reinstall the mod. If it is that mod that is bad and not the installation you can replace it using a mod that replaces the same car and replace the old one with the new one and it should work. But if you used San Andreas Mod installer it automaticly backs it up.

6.Adding mods too XBOX and PS2

More info on modding GTA for XBOX

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showforum=89

More info on modding GTA for PS2

People have installed mods on the PS2. Barton Waterduck, the author of the Mission Builder script compiler, installed a mission mod called the MultiMod on the PS2. You have to copy the files to the PC, mod them there, then either burn a new DVD or copy them back to the PS2 hard drive (if you can run games off the hdd.) It is possible, but it simply just isn't worth the trouble, particularly since some files (like .txds) have slightly different formats than the PC version so you can't always use a PC mod as-is.

7.Patching your German, 1.01 or 2.00 version of gta_sa.exe

Before anyone sais this is illeagle.

Originaly Said by Talidan
I am positive this is legitimate, there is not enough data in the .exe to extract the full gta-sa.exe. if a moderator/dev finds this is provides the full exe then remove the link and inform me. It requires proper recognition of an authentic version to continue.

Ok so, just go to http://forum.mtavc.com/viewtopic.php?t=15151

And Follow the instructions, and if you have any questions ask there.

Need help installing a particluar mod? Just ask I'll add the tutorial to add it on here.

well it is really all the games i try.. but here is one of the links: http://www.gtagaming.com/pafiledb.ph...n=file&id=1504

That mod is so easy to install.
All you need is
- a WinZip (http://www.winzip.com/) or WinRar (http://www.rarlab.com/) to extract out the files from the zip file.
- A IMG Tool (http://www.gtagaming.com/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=1105)
- Instruction on how to install are stated in the ReadMe file, that comes along with the mod. Follow the instruction carefully.
- For more help, Read, with full attention, what Bladexen wrote here (http://www.gtagaming.com/forums/showthread.php?p= 1159818#post1159818).

Hey Everyone,

I'm sorry if this question has been asked/answered before, but I have been searching two GTA:SA forums and still can't seem to find a definite answer to this.

I am going to be going out to buy GTA:SA today. And, from what I am assuming, it will be the Second Edition (or v2.0). That much I know.

However, I am still confused on what type of modifications -will- and -will not- work on v2.0. So here are my questions.

1. When I install US Version 2.0, will I be able to install car/gun/building/etc modifications; the ones that I would use IMG Tool v2.0 to install? (Right now I am playing Single Player on a No-CD hacked version of v1.0, and I like all the different model-type mods that I can add to it, and I don't want to have to "downgrade" to v1.0 to do this if I don't have to.)

2. I understand that Mods such as "Hot Coffee" and "MTA" -will NOT- work on v2.0 of the game, and the only way to use such mods would be to 'downgrade' as I have been reading about. So my questions is, what OTHER modifications do NOT work with v2.0 of the game? (Or is it that ALL modifications --even the model-type mods-- don't work with the new v2.0?)

Thank you all for your time in reading this post!
-LuckEnova

Asif
10-21-2006, 03:39 PM
Version 2.0 is purely unmoddable. You must have v1.0 to try mods or play MTA/SA-MP.
There's a link to the downgrade patch in the 1st post of this topic.

LuckEnova
10-21-2006, 05:41 PM
Then my last question is...

How do they stop you from modifying the files such as "gta3.img" using the IMG Tool v2.0?
I would assume that that wouldn't be possible, as all you are doing is changing textures (image files) within those .img files.

Just curious.

Asif
10-21-2006, 05:48 PM
V2.0 gta_sa.exe has a memory lock within it. If it senses any modification being attempted with any component of the game (such as gta3.img), the game will then freeze during loading.

Lol really now? I read the original thread post...which is a more thorough version of what you just posted loser, and I've installed mods before my question is what to do if the folder (Models Folder) was no where to be found...not that bull shit you just posted and don't say "Newcomers" because you haven't been on the site very longe apparently

.:nemesis:.
11-28-2006, 04:54 PM
The models folder is located in X:program files/rockstar games/gta san andreas, you must have this folder as it contains at the very least a file called gta3.img, used by the game engine to display all vehicles,weapons....endless list.

Legacy: Jeeze. Sorry. I thought you were talking about the readme for the mod installation. As for my "newcomers" comment, just because I am new to the forums does not mean I have not done this awhile. Also I thought you were new to this because of questions asking where certain files were. Sorry if I offended you. And yes I realize what I posted was useless. Hindsight is 20/20. No reason to call me a loser though. Just relax, and lets forget about this okay.

Why not think about a tutorial on something like installing new skins for the low-riders or a typical map mod of your choice.

It will let other people see how relatively easy it is to install them.

The minimum .Net framework version required is 2.0 Please install before launching application. I click OK it closes and re-opens and then says INF error video driver not found. followed by Setup was unable to complete the instalation. Try to set up your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup and then it all closes.

Since you are facing difficulties with finding the files for Vista, try installing XP on your laptop in the other partition and install the game there.

I installed the just few hours ago with Gta Garage mod manager...would you like to add some screenshots, so that all u can see exactly what's my problem
LE:I am now trying to install them with sami...

Have you made sure if your game is v1.0 or v2.0? Check the size of your gta_sa.exe.

If it's v2 you should see "V2" on the Main Menu.

Try installing them manually instead of using any mod manager, they sometime bugs up in-game.

u mean just copy-paste them (the txd and dff files) ?

Asif
01-22-2008, 07:54 PM
If you are using IMG tool 2.0, then delete the original txd/dff from the gta3.img and then add the 'modded' txd/dff.

can someone make a tutorial like this for vice city? but if this also works for vice city then what is the problem when i get the message "the file size is too much" and how do i fix it?

Asif

You have to delete the file (don't forget to make backup before deleting!), then add-in the new (modded) file to the IMG archive. Of course, make sure that gta3.img is not read-only.

oh ok. but now there is a new problem. im in the handling bit and ive copied the numbers, now where do i put it?

he says
"Now if yours sais Land Stalker or somthing else search that in the noteoad using ctrl + f. Once you find it copy the one in the read me and highlight the other one and paste to replace. Then 0pen carcols.dat in /data with Notepad (again) and in the readme most of the time there is another thing that has the name of a car and a couple of numbers. Not usally much. And do what you did with the handling and it should be installed!"

I am not sure what he means. does he mean take the numbers from the handling document or the carcols document? Or the other way around? can someone make that process clear please?

Asif

Open the handling.cfg with a notepad, search for the line of Landstalker that starts with its ID LANDSTAL. You have to replace the numbers on that row, by selecting them all and pasting the line, from the ReadMe file (given with the mod), over the line. Or, you can change the individual number below the distinct column one by one, which would take a lot of time.

You could start by reading the guide fully.

What is the problem you are having?

You have DLed the porshe right?

Have you DLed the tool thing? And replaced the files it tell you to in the note pad?

If you have recently bought the game it wont work cause its the "newer" version of the game. And im not sure on if there is a patch out that could fix that or what, but im assuming there would be.

ok first, thank you this is a great topic and it explains alot of things.

ok anyway i have a problem... i bought GTA : SA on D2D (direct2drive.com) and at first i thought i had to patch it to use mods! so then i try to patch and it says old file, meaning its already patched, so i come here, try to get the downgrader, and when i try to downgrade it says it cant find my gta_sa.exe version... why does it say this? is it because of direct2drive? or is it just not updated... i dont know which version i have of GTA SA it doesnt show, is there a new version out or something? because ive no idea i mean i just cant install mods and it makes me pissed x-x. ok thank you people.

The PS2 version of San Andreas uses different file types for textures and models. To install mods you'd have to convert PC mods to PS2 (I have no idea how) and then burn the game on a DVD and play it on a modded PS2. So basically the simple answer is no, you can't mod your PS2 game. San Andreas is only $10-$15 on PC now, so you could just get that if you really want to mod the game.

Um, no need to bump a topic that's months old. But to determine which version you have, you'll see it on your main menu.
If you have v2, it'll appear a watermark in the menu saying 'v1.1', if you have v1 you can mod your game freely and there will be no watermark.
