Okay.. I'm pretty desperate right now. See, I have this file on my pc which is like a diary. All the stuff which is rather important, or just fun or impressive to read for later is typed in there. I don't type every day, more like every month, but the total file has gotten pretty damn big. It's pretty important for me, And pretty valuable aswell. Lots of personal stuff, etc etc.

I don't want anyone to read it, so I've hid it in some empty folder somewhere in C:/program files/common files/blahblahblah etc, deep inside my pc :p
But, I found that kinda annoying, so I went to the settings of that one file, and selected 'hide'. (whatever it says in english, the option is right here:

http://img21.echo.cx/img21/3326/2verbergen9nb.th.p ng (http://img21.echo.cx/my.php?image=2verbergen9nb.p ng)

(yes, ofcourse it's dutch. That's why I'm adding a pic, just in case it doesn't say 'hide' in english. Oh, and this is just a random file I made just to show you guys what I mean)

The icon of that word file went transparant, so I thought every thing was ok, and I closed the folder.

The other day, I openen that folder again with that Word document in it, and it's gone!
GONE!
I right-clicked on the folder, and yeah, it still is there.. it shows that it contains 1 file, of *number*KB and such.. so there is something in that folder, my missing file.
I NEED IT BACK! but I don't know how.. I can't open it, I can't click on it, heck, I can't even see it! Only in the stats of the folder, that's it. How the HELL can I open it again?

On a side note, My own PC is running on windows 98. (ha, ha, ha, stfu)

i really, really need that file back. someone help!

Go to the folder. Then click Tools > Folder Options > View > Show hidden files and folders > Apply > OK.

go to Control Panel > folder options > View.

then look for Hidden files and folders.

Click the box for 'Show hidden files and folders.'

hopefully now your file should be accessible.

edit: when i was typing up this post, mouldypunk had not posted his above response, which is almost identical to this one.

For future reference, i 'd surgest you make a web blog. If you want it private, just don't tell anyone about it and delete your web history after visiting and maybe put in a fake name etc. The chances anyone you know will find it are over a million to one.

Whoa, thanks alot mouldy!
(and Gamaya, ofcourse ;) I read moudly post first)

Man, I finally have it again. I'm so happy :D cheers

Oh, and about that weblog, nah.. I'll just stick with files on my PC instead of on the web. Don't know why, but it just feels a more private.

I'll double save the file from now on though :D on some other location

Thanks again guys :)

For my private stuff, I ZIP it and put a password on it. That way, even if someone does find it buried in my C drive, they can't open it =)

Figure it out you crazy bum! hehehe

I don't think you can put passwords on ZIPs with the windows thingy, so you'll need winrar.
