Ok here's my thoughts on what's going on. I'm an XBOX owner and have yet to play or see san andreas gameplay in person. BUT i've bin poppin boners over this game b4 most PS2 users. Any ways. I have a question. People who own both San Andreas & Vice City should be able to answer this.

After playing San Andreas for a while, does playing Vice City suck ass? I mean in graphics, overall enjoyment, and things to do. But mainly I want to know if the graphics seem way better for San Andreas?

I own Vice city for x box and cant wait for San An to come out. HIP HIP:finger:

Well i don't know i consider gta 3 the best game but i love the atmosphere of Vice City but i love all the extra stuff of San Andreas so it's a tough call. In my opion though SA blows away vice city except for the soundtrack vice city has the best soundtrack on any game ever.

Vice City did a good job of recreating the 80's, atleast thats my opinion.

Here, i'll put into perspective for you guys.

GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas are released on the exact same day :wtf: , you've already played demo's for both games but they only lasted for 5 minutes of gameplay. Now you're at the store and you face the agonizing decission of purchasing 1 game since you don't have enough money for both. WHICH ONE DO YOU CHOOSE? Explain please i'd love to hear the pro's and con's as well. THANKS!

Really, You like the soundtrack for Vice city Better? wow. Im into 2pac so i guess i'd like the san andreas soundtrack better.

I would buy SA over VC, not for the music, but for the freedom of SA.

Put it into perspective? Why not just compare a Mario game from the NES to a mario game from N64 or Gamecube.

Apples to Eggs. You can't really compare something that's built upon it's predecessor.

That said I got much more enjoyment out of VC due to the bike physics, the atmosphere, and the soundtrack.

And the aiming system, VC's is much better than SA's.

I believe that GTA3 is better than all of them. I mean the whole feel and style and storyline, next VC then SA. But the other way around relating to gameplay. Then GTA3 best music maybe then VC then SA. Ha its back and forth I guess......

yeah VC had a nice atmosphere and such. Like the that I ran song by Flock of Seagulls.. i love it. The entire 80s theme is awesome.

BUT.. SA is incredebly nice too. The huuuuuge areas; the desert, the countryside, the woods.. it's so nice to cruise around there. It has more features which is good. I think the replay of SA is better than VC's.

SA is the better game, regardless of atmosphere and setting. it addressed major issues in vice and 3 such as
-only being able to auto aim with all but 3 weapons, the aiming system in SA is vastly supioror to any 3rd person ive played (on ps2 anyhow, pc pwns j00 :P)
-bike physics that were very unforgiving
-why am i compiling this list? go here - www.computerandvideogames.com and search for the ps2 reviews of either to get a very comprehensive idea of both

if vc had more of an area to play around such as key west, bahamas ect, had all the graphics guns cars and features of sa vc would be my choice. VC's characters blow over SA's.

exactly. if vice city was the same size and you could swim San Andreas would have been stupid and unlikeable.

I enjoyed Vice City much, much more then San Andreas

gta san andreas is better because of the desert, countrysides, the gangs the ability to swim eat work out drive JETS it just more funner. everytime i play vice city it make me fell like i want to throw up seriously

I stab people.
05-30-2005, 05:13 PM
id say vice. i get sick of "taking care" of my guy on San Andreas. i mean i like the whole workign out and stuff but eating?! i like vice city because i dont have to take care of my guy. just only if vice city had a clothes store and a gym...

if by some miricale Vice City and SanAndreas had the SAME:

Weapons
Vehicles
Character Abilitys
And all around "Functions"

I would go with Vice ALL THE WAY, i could just really connect with tommy and in VC they had the Atmosphere perfect, radio, scenery, plot line, ect.

I stab people.
05-30-2005, 06:46 PM
yep vice city would win if that "miracle" happened. but hey things are too good to be true :(

Setting and vibe have nothing to do with it?

Are you nuts?

GTA is meant to portray a criminal lifestyle in a specific time frame. If they fail to capture that essence they failed totally.

I think it's a 50-50 san andreas is much bigger and has more freedom and feutures and vice city has a much better charecter, atmosphere and soundtrack

There is NO HUGE difference between the graphics but the gameplay in general is much better on San Andreas so in my oppinion yes, Vice and GTA3 do seem a little empty compared to it. But its still fun to every now and then go back and have a mess around in Vice or Liberty.

I am also a Xbox owner and play the GTA: Double Pack religiously. I love both games. GTA III is not better than Vice City in my opinion, and when I am over at my friends playing SA on his PS2, I think there is no question it's the best game. Huge enviroments, tons of features, and even though I'm eagerly waiting to get there - Vegas.

I can't wait for the Xbox release for this masterpiece!

Wow you really think VC's aiming system is better than SA's? I don't know, I think I like SA's better but only because of the color changing reticle i.e., from green to black. I sort of like the shape and size of the targeting reticle in VC though. I do know that the aiming system in LC is hilarious. Just a big red box. Don't get me wrong, I still love LC.

OK so as far as VC vs. SA I can only comment on the PS2 versions, I don't own an XBOX. Anyway, both games are great but I would have to say San Andreas. The main reason is for the amount of things to do as well as the utter vastness of the map. Graphics wise on the PS2 version both games are about the same. There's not really a huge difference. Maybe SA's textures are a little smoother. I think the sunrises and sunsets are better in VC, although they ain't bad viewed from the top of Mt. Chiliad in SA. The moon is definitely better in SA. I'm sure most people don't give a shit about the sunrises, sunsets and the moon anyway. The XBOX graphics will definitely be superior to the PS2 version, no doubt. Since the XBOX version of VC is graphically superior to that of the PS2.

I like the customization in SA like the hairstyles(which there are quite a few), the amount of clothes you can buy, the ability to buy food which in turn affects the weight/shape and performance of the main character. As well as the "more you play the better you get" aspects of SA but that's nothing spectacular really. The amount of mini-games in SA far surpasses those in VC. However, some are great, some are just mediocre. There are more fight animations and speech samples in SA. There are way more pedestrians in SA. SA has a lot more planes and helicopters too. Some people say the Mavericks of VC are easier to fly than those of SA but I don't really see that. The R3 taxi/cab jump in SA sucks. It's much better in VC. SA gives you the ability to equip vehicles with NČO(nitrous oxide) as well as other customizations. With the exception of the Sanchez the basic motorcycle physics are better in VC but SA sort of makes up for that in the variety of two wheel vehicles including motorcycles and bicycles.

The fact that SA is the first GTA game where you can swim bumps it up a few more points. Also the contrasts of the different areas in SA is phenomenal. From the cities, to the countryside, to the small towns as well as the desert. Each area has a unique feel. VC on the other hand doesn't divert much from the Miami-esque feel of the city. That's not to say VC doesn't do a good job of making it feel like 1980's Miami, it's on point. While in the SA enviroment you get that same immersive feeling while in the different areas of the map. Just as you feel like you're on the beach in Miami in the 80's while in Ocean Beach in VC, you feel like you're on the streets of Compton circa the early 90's while in Ganton, Los Santos in SA. While in the downtown and Vinewood areas of Los Santos it looks like downtown Los Angeles and Hollywood and San Fierro looks like San Franciso, Las Venturas... you get the point. Both games do a good job of setting the atmosphere. I do like the storyline in VC a little better than SA's but that's not to say SA's sucks. SA's storyline is also of course longer. I've gotten much more replayability out of SA but I've heard some people say they like playing VC more after getting 100% than after getting 100% in SA. I don't agree with that assessment.

I also like the VC soundtrack better than SA's but that's not to say VC's soundtrack sucks in anyway whatsoever. I just like the songs on VC a little better. I mean VC has fucking Slayer so in my mind you can't beat that. It's all a matter of opinion in terms of the soundtrack anyway. Actually, every aspect of each game is a matter of opinion I guess.

Most of the comments I read sound like: "If Vice City was like San Andreas, I'd go for Vice City".

Well, it just mean you like San Andreas better then.
If an apple would taste like an orange, I'd prefer the apple...!

I like San Andreas better, not for the swiming and the clothes, but just the mood and the feel.
I'm not a big fan of the '80 anyway. As a matter of fact, I think I even like GTA III better than Vice City. O well. Don't get me wrong, Vice City was a good game but San Andreas is my favorite, not only between the GTAs but amongs all games.

I'm a PS2 gamer by the way, never tried the Xbox.

I think Vice City didn't "suck ass" even after I played San Andreas for weeks almost 24/7. San
Andreas has of course better graphics(especially car graphics),but Vice still manages to rock. The overall enjoyment is much better with San Andreas however.

Both of them do an excellent job of recreating their time period that they took place in and both of them had their share of things that made them amazing.

So in my opinion they are both equal and III is no exception. They are all amazing and all deserve the respect that they get.

Each Game is different from each other, Vice city was more bright city
and the main characther Tommy was intence and didnt give a shit..
The characthers in vice city were better than San andreas..Better
story too than San Andreas...onto Sa the graphics and the perks that come with the game like changing clothes weapons,eating,swimming..
I dont think vice city soundtrack is better than SA... vice city soundtrack
had well known hits, SA soundtrack had more obscure and very underrated tunes, beats, songs the songs just grow on you if u give it a chance to listen...
