Backup all the programs that you want to keep, and then reformat your hard drive.

Every 5-10 minutes or so a IE pop up appears with stupid ads, I dont really pay attention to the ads as I just delete em.

That's what happened to me, Lao Boy. I don't know what I did, but now they stop popping up now. Try getting one of Norton's spyware products.

Are you using IE? (you should be using firefox (http://www.getfirefox.com)) and get spybot search and destroy, lavasoft's Adaware, or hijackthis.
If you are using those, then back up everything (disconnect from the internet) and hope that you got your XP CD do reformat.

He's using Mozilla Firefox. It pops up with IE ads even when he's not running it. If you look at Task Manager, IE will always be running, and if you exit it, it will reopen in your Task Manager.

Yup IE pisses me off. I hate IE for life.
Yeah, Spyware and Adware suck. I got supposedly 'all of it' off, but I still get IE pop-ups. :/

I got 12ghosts Pop Up Blocker, and I got Aluria Security Center, which is the best spyware/ad aware/ spam remover I have had, removes everything.
You can remove spyware manually of course, if you know what you're doing. Best to autopsy the entire Windows directory (that's usually where it's hiding) and google the executable files you find. Chances are that one of them will come up that's responsible for your spyware. You'll have to mess around with your registry too, probably, so remember to back that up.

Why the fuck would you wanna do all that bullshit when you can just use ad-aware
EDIT : Im sorry i just said that because i dont like you. I dident mean it honest..
He already said that the free antispyware solutions he's downloaded haven't worked. I've managed to remove spyware that couldn't be detected manually. The only disadvantages are that you won't be able to remove ALL the infected files, and it can take a very long time.

Yeah, that's the best option.
Make sure you back everything you care for, then check the backups.

That's how companies sometimes make money.
I think spyware evolved from spying on someone else's computer (mostly surfing habits and email reading). If people weren't so paranoid to do that, then maybe it wouldn't be this bad.
