I read in an issue of GameInformer, as well as many other websites and magazines that the Japanese PSP system was only around $180 US. Now look in the US. The value pak is a whopping $250? WTF is going on here? Is Sony getting too freakin greedy with us Americans? My main point and question is simple to ask, but hard to answer: Is there any place on the web where you can find a Japanese PSP for the original price tag of $180. It's not eBay. Prices around there are going all the way to $400 over there. If the PSP's price doesn't go down soon, I don't think I'll be getting one in a while, as well as some other gamers out there.

flippin heck i live in the uk and its around £180 for the standard pack my theory is that becaus sony cant make enough to go around the world thye have o rocket the prices for the people who can get them but after the first lot have them they will start to derease in price hopefully but ive got mine preorderd on amazon so ill gte mine at the back end of june unlike the april 17th release date it should be

But turner is right if you have a look here http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=PSP&title=171652 its only£199.99. Which is about $160 with the currency at the moment.

Thanks for for the info, dudes. That really helps with my "quest" to find a good price for a good PSP :D . And since PSPs aren't region coded with games...
I think you're all being sucked in by exchange rates. It works out about the same regardless of where you buy it, even though converting the currency would make it seem cheaper.
The US Dollar is extremely weak at the moment and until a change of policy comes on Iraq, it's not likely to strengthen.
The UK pricing for PSP has NOT been announced yet. Please, don't post figures that are not official, as they may mislead other visitors.

Can i just say, if your thinking about importing there may be a Import Tax. When i got mine from Japan, it cost me an extra £52.52 ontop of what i paid for it.

well ive out these prices on because these are the prices i have already payed and they are around the right price compare to other stuff eg games and neil even if the english release price is more than i have payed so its not me who is losing out all im really bothere is about is getting one
