GTA on the PSP

hey iv jus heard that GTA has been confirmed for the PSP, and im wondering what the graphics will be like, anyone got any ideas?

The graphics would be very similar.
The game would be smaller than SA. Think LC or VC size.

And just so I know, whats the source of confirmation?
But I've known for a while its coming on the PSP, so I don't doubt you.

well actually if you think about it the size could be the same as in SA. The screen resolution is about 6 times lower then that of the ps2, that means it will take up less space on the disk. The bigger the resolution, the better the graphics have to be. So that would mean that SA on the UMD disk would take up 6 times as smaller space then SA on the regular DVD disk. So it is quite possible. Let's hope for it at least.

I don't think resolution has anything to do with graphics. If you're talking about RAM, then perhaps it would take less since less is being displayed on the screen at the one time. But graphics still need to be there and still need to be modelled and rendered into the game regardless of resolution.

yes that's what I meant but I think psp will need much less quality of graphics because it's on much smaller screen. and cutting down on graphics will save a lot of memory that means more space for the city.

if youve seen the screenshots for the new gran turismo for the PSP youll see that the PSP has absolutley terrific graphics, but i dont know how much memory/storage the PSP has

I can't see why you're complaining about GTA coming to the PSP. Because of new people? Are we to assume, then, that all PSP owners are going to be twats?

It would be impossible to make a San Andreas type game for PSP because unlike GTA3 and Vice City, it streams data from the disc instead of loading most of it all onto the RAM. It's for this reason that load times are almost non-existant (with the exception of interior enviroments). This, while not a problem for the PS2, is a major issue for the PSP. Since the PSP has an aproximate battery life of 4-6 hours, constantly having the UMD drive spinning - in addition to extreme graphics demands - wouldn't be a very good idea. To remedy this, games for the PSP load as much data onto the RAM as possible to avoid constantly having to read data from the disc. If Rockstar didn't want the system to die after an hour of gameplay, they'd have to do the same. In other words, if San Andreas came to PSP, it would be chock-full of loading screens just like in GTA3 Vice City. This, unfortunately, is the price we'll have to pay. Otherwise, you can kiss the PSP version good-bye.

Andyhogg, probably late, about mid 2005, like San Andreas came out later in Europe, the PS2 came out later there too, it seems like everything goes from japan to america to europe...sorry, just a probability, anyways, i think the graphics will be a tad bit choppier than GTA III, but nevertheless, if there is a top down GTA, im gonna SCREAM...i hope the SAME GTA comes out for the DS sooner, cause i want GTA for my DS... and i dont mean the topdown GTA III for the GBA, i mean VC 3rd person baby!!! that would kick ass...oh, and whoever says that GTA will never make it to the DS is wrong, it will some time, just think of the money R* wouldmake doing that...with sales in the millions, it would be dumb not to...but yes, i am getting a PSP, and GTA if it comes out for it, and if its 3rd person

The game hasn't been officially confirmed. Rockstar declined to comment when I contacted them, and the site claiming that it had been confirmed told me that their source was Famitsu.

Make of this what you like, but it may just be a very dodgy Japanese translation...
