Grand Theft Auto: Japan

i really believe Japan would make the best city for the next game. not only is it the biggest city in the world, but i've heard it's got a lot of gangs. also, i know street racing is big there so more detail could be added to the car mod feature. i know there's biker gangs, so the introduction of some new bikes would be great. martial arts fighting skills could be better than those in SA, plus you could make better fighting with the katana. there's the Yakuza which could play a big role in the story. plus there could be a few japaneese weapons, like throwing stars... also, the Triads in SA speak english, so R* could alter it so they all speak english... who cares about language anyway, it's GTA.
i know SA is still new, but i just can't help but think of what's next. plus with the PS3 it would be amazing... hm... imagine it as the lauch title for the PS3... imagine the money R* and Sony would roll in then... and then of course there's this photo i found...

Japan is a country, not a city.

It wouldn't work because you'd have a non-English speaking country, speaking English.

I think perhaps a GTA country of the US set in the present day including updated versions of VC, LC, and SA plus various other new cities could be in order depending on the storage medium for the PS3.

nah. i'd want something new. not the same old cities. there was gta: london, so they're all not based in the us. and i believe ps3 could manage a country... and when has gta ever had a language besides english?
if they're doing all the cities again anyway, then london is the only one left... maybe they're saving it for last. that way it can be huge. hell, i havn't finished SA yet. maybe i just think too much.

I reckon GTA should stay in America. Alright, Japan would have some cool stuff but in my oppinion it would'nt have the same 'feel' as the previus ones. I also believe they should not remake GTA London for this reason.

I'd have to agree the US is best for GTA. I hope the next game has new cities, but it might be nice to start in one of the old cities set in modern times - that way you'd at least know some of it when you started.

It won't be in Japan or anywhere overseas (with the exception of the UK) for one simple reason. R*'s biggest market is the US, and basing it in Japan or somewhere would require alot of culture references that Americans wouldn't know. If it won't sell well in the states, its not coming out. Central/South America could be done however. Basing it on the Mexican border (drug/gun smuggling) could be cool if done right.

I also like the idea of having a biker gang theme, such as the Hells Angels, etc.

Exactly, and I worship Japan, but the language barrier would divert from the realism of the game.

let's be honest; it doesn't matter WHERE it's set (although an english speaking country would make sense) as it'll be fantastic regardless...

more interesting to me is WHEN it will be set. we've had the 80's in VC and the 90's in SA, so hopefully the next instalment will be from the 70's - or perhaps it will be the much talked about re-make of GTA: London, which was set in the "swinging" sixties...

personally, i'm hoping for london, but then i'm from london and would absolutely love it if my street/house appeared in the next game...

I'd say a snowy place, if you haven't gotten far in the game, you might now agree, but for those who are far in the game, snow would be awsome. Also, maybe play as a chick, that'd be interesting.

Why keep it in America? I know a lot of you Americans are pathedicly uneducated about Canada, but keep this in mind. In Canada, our cities look exactly like American cities, so why not make GTA Toronto or GTA Ottawa? It would still feel like GTA, plus instead of having just morning , afternoon, evening and night in the game, you could have seasons, making the city covered in snow around Dec. to late March. We have Mafia families , street gangs, and biker gangs too just like the Americans.

one problem with GTA London : It's not Canada.

plus London is a horrible city to redesign, that's why the driving in The Getaway was so bad, the streets are way too complicated ( keep in mind though , it WAS central London ) .

Another thing I wouldn't like about GTA London is the cultural difference. Canada is different in many many ways from American, but in a whole.......we're completly the same. Yes they were, GTA1 (I think) had Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas. They then remade them all (GTA III, GTA: Vice City, GTA: San Andreas.)

Liberty City kicked ass, and you know it. Do you know how many people prefer GTA 3 over GTA Vice City JUST BECAUSE the map is way better in GTA 3 ? Hundreds of thousands, including myself. My vote is for Liberty City, this time on a much larger scale. It could include versions of Brooklyn, Bronx, etc. This time making Liberty City look more like the real life NYC, the way they made San Fierro look very closely like the real San Francisco. Along with the city, it could include areas in upstate (Niagra Falls anyone?) Or cities such as Atlantic City (for gambling and expanding the "business")

And no....there is nothing wrong with thinking of the future, many of us have beaten SA and have to think about whats next.

Liberty City isn't just supposed to be New York, it's a mix of New York and Chicago ( kind of like how Los Santos is a mix of L.A and Hollywood, or like how the whole freakin' state of San Andreas is a mix of Nevada and California )

Thats true, but seeing as Hollywood technically really isn't a "city" at all, but a part of LA, doing that made sense. Yes, I know the EL Train is a Chicago landmark but other than that, LC didn't remotely resemble Chicago, which is flat, near as flat as Miami/VC. Nor are they close in proximity like Hollywood/LA.

And Blitz, after SA; R* can't go back to doing just one city per game. They would have to include countryside and cities other than Tokyo.

It wouldn't be the same LC as in GTA3 obviously. I look at it this way, the islands in GTA3 represented only a small fraction of a MUCH larger city/area. Thus, LC could be revisited.

Where in LC did the bank robbery at the beginning of GTA3 take place? I know they had the ghost town for the cutscene but it represented elsewhere in LC.

Really sorry about this double post but i just noticed something...
People are saying about a whole remake of Liberty City etc...like on a larger scale. In my oppinion this would suck so much because arent R* trying to link all the games together. I mean, like you meet characters from older games but when they were younger etc..(like salvatore leone). People want Liberty City to be expanded and stuff? pfff, how would a city get bigger? It is on islands, people cant make islands. I reckon if you are able to go back in any future versions of GTA to old cities they should be exactly same.

Japan has great music (Pop, Rock, Classical, Rap, etc. -- everything you need for a great soundtrack). I've never actually heard of Japanese techno, Europe has a large techno/house scene not Japan.

What I think is the game should be based on is the United States itself, albeit on a smaller scale. It would have all the landmark cities on the westcoast (Los Angeles, San Fransisco, Las Vegas), the middle of the country (Chicago, Detriot, Houston, New Orleans), and the east coast (New York City, Washington DC, Miami), in addition to the countryside in between. But again, on a smaller scale. This, I believe, is the only way to settle the dispute over which cities to do - do them all!

english speaking countries? you guys forgot australia. the whole thing would be boring though its hilly yea, but it would be just desert with a bunch of citys scarred everywhere.

imo what WOULD be cool is this:

make like a miniature world - 4 major cities (1 in the east, 1 in the west, 1 in the south, 1 in the north) all connected by highways and stuff. and in the middle you could have either a private island which you will have to blow up for the final mission, a military base, or the white house or some government building. the northernmost city would have lots of snow in some parts which may get the main charachter sick if you dont wear warm clothes (think of that huh) and it could have sled races, snowboarding, skiing, and YETI . lol. the western city would be where you find italian gangs, casinos, and big businesses and it would have lots of nice cars and big houses in the residental area (robbery missions robbery missions). the southern city would have the black gangs and the mexican gangs and would have some ghettos, beaches (surfing) and it would be hilly in one part with the "rich bitch" part of the city there. The eastern city would have the russian mob, triads, cubans and lots of cops. this is where you would start. it would also have lots of odd jobs like being a cop (not vigilante, and actual cop which you wont get wanted stars for, and you can cause as much mayhem as you want), newspaper carrier (just an idea), car stealing ( not the import export thing, you would go to different people and they would give you a time limit and the name and pic of a car to steal. its gonna be a rare car like the phoenix in sa), and it could also have smuggling drugs, guns and SLAVES!!!(dammit im getting to carried away sorry) another thing could be fishing...well you get the idea. the middle part is something cool. its gotta be something MAJOR like and island with a gang that killed your parents and they only stay on that island and you gotta blow it up or something SOMETHING MAJOR. or it could be a really really big monument that you could see from all 4 cities or something. by the way if youre wonderin where the country side would be it would be all around the cities and the northern city would go out into a yet another city up in the mountains and it would have like eskimo gangs and stuff. yea this is my idea. 4 cities with something major in the middle, skiing, snowboarding, surfing, smuggling, fishing, all that stuff.
