We all know that the audio in VC is real 80's music, but what about the music in GTA3?
Its obvious that some of the songs are fake - 'Boys to Girls - Hope it goes OK' etc.
But the song played on Flashback FM - 'Push it to the limit' - is this a real song? I have heard it in one of the latest South Park episodes - 803 - Up the Down Steroid. The song plays whilst Cartman dresses up like a handicapped person.

I always thought the music was fake, until this.

i thought it was too, but if you heard it on south park maybe its real.
btw episode 807 "The Jeffersons" is the lastest episode.

I do believe that all the songs are real, they're just not popular. Most of them were made up by 'semi famous' singers, the Scarface ones being the best known.

Yeah.. "She's on fire" (from GTAIII) is on Scarface too. I haven't seen the movie but I have heard that is in it too.

I believe they were all real, serious performers in the 80s. They may have been pretty underground at the time, too. Check their names in the GTA3 manual.

But what about the song on LIPS 106: 'Pray it goes OK' by Boys to Girls?
That sounds like the most obvious take off of boyz to men, and the song title is a ref to sex changes.
Can this song be real? I know it says this title in the instruction manual, but I cannot believe that a serious artist would make this song up.

Well I know the songs from Head Radio were made by Stuart Ross and Craig Conner. but I dunno about Lips. One of the songs from Lips sounds like a real song. 'Yesterday is gone forever, tomorrow will never be here...' blah blah. One of the songs are even censored. One part of a Lips song goes. 'Show me - a trick. Show me - you're ****' So it might have been real, or made to sound like an obvious edited radio song. Maybe run a google search on the performers/singers and see if there's any real CD's under that name. If not, they're most likely made just for GTA3.

Hey, I have a question. Anyone listen to Flashback FM (GTAIII)? Well remember the part where it says," I remember waking up on the ?????? bus." It always blocks out the part like this. I remember waking up on the dr______ bus. What goes in the blank. Do you know what I am talking about? It always pauses in every copy of GTAIII on that part? why?

QuentinVance

I just listened to it, and it does 'static' it out.
Due to the starting sound and end sound of the word(s), my guess would be something like Duran Duran (which could fit in with Toni very well - she may be one of the chicks in the 'Girls on Film' vid) :D
My guess is that they did not want to mention some fake band, or incriminate themselves by mentioning a real band and being sued.

I realise that the names are in the manual.
But the way that I see it is that if they recorded the songs just for GTA3, then they aren't 'real' songs in the sense that Rockstar had to buy rights to the music, like they have had to do with Vice city (except for the Love fist songs).

yeah the songs on flashback are from scarface. but also! here's something i bet a lot of you didn't know. If i recall, all the songs on Lips 106 are from the original GTA. they were all on one of the radiostations there. and the one song on that station that sounds like rap (i forget the name, i think it's 'joyride') well that's the themesong from GTA1. there are two parts in that song that are cencored out in GTA3 where the guy says "fuck" but they were not cencored out of the original version from GTA1. one of the parts is when he says "NYPD! LAPD! SFPD! *lips 106*" well the real version after saying all the PD's, he says "don't fuck with me"

i just thought i'd share that with you guys

Hmm, I did not know that.
On a side note - I finally watched Scarface - I now see all the comparisons, and have heard all the Flashback music. Doesn't fit too badly.

Flashback has songs from "Scarface", but the others I'm not too sure about. Either R* made it all up, or those songs are really unknown. I'm leaning towards the Rockstar-made, though.

it must be cool to tell your friends that you sung the song on lips 106. any way, the audio where she says duran duran, how did you get that into MP3??

QuentinVance
07-29-2004, 06:11 PM
Yeah, I downloaded it, and the audio does not match my one.

In your mp3, the song in the background is 'She's on fire', and then she talks about the bus.

On my audio (I made wave files from the CD music of the PC version), it says 'This reminds me of waking up on the <static> tour bus', and then it links into the song 'Shake It Up'.

My version is NZ/AUS - is it different from other versions?

If you want to get the GTA music onto MP3 version, then get the 'adfconverter' tool - it takes the songs from VC (and I think GTA3 - or they may already be in WAVE format), and then you can convert wav files into mp3's.

I don't believe the audio is different in any country.
Everyone would have noticed by now, if it was.

I believe they are from fairly unknown bands, that made songs for GTA III.

I recognize a few songs on it like Shes On Fire. But the rest I think Rockstar made for GTAIII to make it a little more original.

I believe that Rockstar hired some real artists to sing/write songs for their exclusive purposes, excluding Flashback and Doubleclef....one of the censored Lips 106 songs is from the original Gta, so it was probably sung by Rockstar people or something.
