25 to life....another gta wannabe?

I was flipping through my new issue of Game Informer when i saw this little snippet....

It's urban insanity on the mean streets of Eidos' new third person action shooter called 25 To Life. The game casts you as a gangster trying to carve out a living and survive amidst the drug lords, gangs, and flying bullets. Online play is also enabled for up to 16 players, and supports USB headsets. Here you can also take ont he role of a copper trying to clean up the filth on the streets. Developer Avalanche Software is also considering letting players don the blue suit in single player as well.
Making your way in the game isn't easy, as the highly-interactive urban environments are teeming with life. Pedestrians can get in the way, as well as give away your position. You may even find yourself having to organize a jail break! As you rise up the ranks, your fully customizable character can be outfitted with the latest unlockable gear. 25 To Life is scheduled to appear on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in February, and an all-star hip hop cast of licensed music is being sought for the soundtrack.

It seems to me this game is trying the True Crime variation of the GTA formula. I for one do not intend on buying it at all. What are your opinions?

mmmmm.... From what I heard so far, the story kinda feels like SA but oh well, it also sounds like a good game specially with online multiplayer and also Eidos make very good games like ummm... tomb raider, hitman, thief, blah blah blah, those are all good games and Eidos has a good reputation, I'll probably buy Im sure it won't dissapoint me

Its like SOCOM meets BoyzN'TheHood. It looks very promising. I've been waiting for a legit multi-player action game set in the ghetto. Hoping R* would have been the first, but I'll take what I can get at this point.

I think R* will be the first since this game comes in February and SA comes out this October.

no reason why a GTA 'wannabe' would be a bad thing. remember when the point and click adventures were new? Lucas Film had the market cornered and then companies like Sierra followed suit releasing similar games. so fans got great games from both companies, plus they pushed eachother into working even harder on their games to be the better. same thing happened with the first person shooters. if someone else starts making decent games with a similar style to GTAs then personally I'd buy them as well as the new GTA titles

Drivers the game the started the whole genre. If driver never came out I bet gta woulda died after gta2. I dont like driver but im just saying whats true. So really its a driver wanna be. (I know gtas better and blah blah blah but driver was 1rst)

it doesn't sound too bad, actually...

then again, anything that is remotely like GTA, fans of GTA will attack for ripping it off.It's like Tarantino fans will attack a film for being liek Tarantino because he was the first to do what he did with film. GTA was the first to do what it did with games. God, you might as well say all thrillers are rip-offs of Hitchcock if you're gonna say that all gangster games are like GTA.

anyways There is another game like this coming out to its called NARC
and your a cop kind alke true crims

but whats cool about this is that you can do drugs and they give you super powers like pot slows downn time and speed makes you run fast

,but if you do these drugs to much they start having negative affects

the game is being touted as "socom street" so imagine being a cop or gangster and playing socom....that alone might be worth it. but i still feel that they might be trying to take gta and abuse the idea. i'm sick of all these "thugged" out games. what ever happened to the good ol creative days...

My opinion : The game looks very good, but the textures on cars and faces, which is where you need them, are crap. Also, the lighting system sux0rs like hell, as its lights are just a sparkle, they dont affect shadows; CRAP. But the game in its essence looks quite good, although it is stealing the fantastic GTA-formula, which R* should definately copyright.
