...and I love this freaking thing. I don't know whether or not I should do the whole Jailbreak thing, since some people say it ruined their phones.

Other than that though, I'm pretty much in love with this thing. It almost beats a laptop. Now I can check email and have GPS/live Google Maps without waiting 20 minutes like my old phone. Upon other nerdy things I get right off the bat - facebook, Skype, aim, Safari... I'm very happy with it :)

Who has "Jailbroken" their iPhone? Was it worth it? I really only want the PlayStation emulator I could get with it, but I'm not cool with risking damaging this sucker.

There basically aren't any risks with jailbreaking anymore. It won't brick your iPhone like the first versions did.

Really? Alright then... might as well give it a try. I'm sure I have a 30 day warranty if something fucks up.

Do you pay the whole thing that Apple gives you?
I heard if you get straight from apple, you gotta pay the $30 dollar calling thing and the $40 messaging or something.
Like can you just get the iPhone without signing up for their contract?

Yay, eat that apple. And just to spite women get that damn AMP "HIT ON CHICKS LOLOL" app that the feminists are bitchin about.

For whatever reason my iPhone (which I got quite recently) won't connect to any WiFi networks, I've only tried at home, but all settings are enabled and my brothers iPhone connects to it just fine. I'm not entirely sure what the problem is.

Other than that, the thing is absolutely amazing. You must get the "Cube Runner" app, it's free and is better than most videogames developers are churning out these days. Also, set up Genius for your music collection, it is the best invention since the wheel.

That "I Am T-Pain" app is cool, too.
If you ever wanted to hear what your voice sounds like using Autotune, download it.
I think it's $3.00, but worth it. lol

I'm guessing 'jailbreaking' is a lot like flashing? I'm not sure was never looked into Iphone's cuz obv never had one, But if it's basically like flashing then finding a good guide on it somewhere on a forum dedicated to it and you should be fine as long as you actually follow the instructions exactly. Flashing new phones can be scary :P

I jailbroke my iPhone about a week after I got it. The only thing I uses is Winterboard, since it lets you customize your phone.

Jailbreaking isn't permanent, you can get rid of it at any time by restoring your iPhone.

I dig the colors personally =P

I'd just wanna Jailbreak it for the PSX/NES emulator. That's really all. Everything else is cool the way it is.

I might have to look into this "jailbreaking". I haven't done anything with my iPhone yet. Haven't even downloaded any apps!

UUh btw.. you need'a download an app called "iHUDlite" It's a free speedometer app, but you can mirror it, and place it in your dashboard, hopla, Head Up Display! :) works night time only, but its very effective, and serves a great purpose. I drive 2 hour trips a few times a week, and that thing really helps!

I always wondered, what's more accurate, car speedos (which are pretty much guaranteed to be over-reading) or something GPS based like a sat nav or iPhone...I mean, that shit's gotta go to space and back - surely can't be that accurate?

Edit:
I'm going to take this opportunity to shamelessly plug an app we made at work;
http://www.musteatbirds.com/

Get it. I think there's a free/lite version too.

I think I trust my cars speedo more than an iPhone one.

"Oh hey officer I was speeding? Oh I wasn't paying attention to the built in speedo, I was looking at the one on my iPhone"

I'd rather my speedo lied to be by telling me I was going faster than I really am, to prevent me from speeding.

Well..

For starters, your in-dash speedometer reads anything between 5-6mph (10km/h) more than your actual speed.
Your in-dash speedometer (depending on make/model) isn't a digital gauge.
Your in-dash speedometer does not have a built-in alarm, that warns you when you drive more than the specified value.
Your in-dash speedometer is placed much lower than the iHUDlite app on the iPhone can be placed. Meaning, to read the speed you have to move your eyes further away from the road, than with the iHUDlite app, which can be placed ON the dash, mirroring the speed to your windshield.

So yeah it REALLY does help , compared to "the speedometer built into y'know..every car" (!)

And Mouldy.. A GPS based speedo is more accurate than a car speedo. Sure the signal for the GPS has to travel to space and back, but the info carried in the signal is also much more accurate.

On the other hand, if you had a regular car speedo, hooked up to a digital source, im sure it would be at least, near or as, accurate as a GPS based speedo.

I think I trust my cars speedo more than an iPhone one.

I'd rather my speedo lied to be by telling me I was going faster than I really am, to prevent me from speeding.

Telling your speedo lied when you're speeding isn't gonna help you much, since that only implies that you really were speeding. Why would you otherwise speed in the first place when your speedo is already over reading.. ;)

Did I make any sense?

GPS tracks distance over time (which is speed) whereas a speedo is a complicated setup based off RPM and using magnetic fields to move the needle etc. I can't remember EXACTLY how it works, but Phil is right, it can be wrong by up to 10%. My mate bought a car that had tyres to big for it, which meant he was going a lot faster than the car told him he was for about 6 months. A GPS wouldn't be tricked by that because it's actually monitoring the speed.

But all in all, i wouldn't bother downloading the app. I usually speed on purpose anyway cause i live in a quiet town.
