Wondering about a symbol

The symbol attached is from the original Quake, does anyone here know what it means? I'm wondering if it means anything.

I was wondering if it had any relevance, since the game does contain some symbols of satanic meaning, I just wondered if it meant anything or if it was just made up. Looks pretty cool either way.

it just looks like a knife with a twisty blade surrounded by some sun design. i tried looking something up on it but found nothing.
