I was just wondering if any1 knows why the course is so small in vice
city? I mean it was a lot bigger in GTA3, why is it so small in vice city? :wink2: :(

Not that important, the map fits perfectly. I think it's an appropriate size.

lasdferret

its bigger than gta3 it just takes a while to get used to it or at least that happend to me.

Don

Small?

VC is big as hell if you ask me.

I got the feeling that GTA3 is a little bigger though but that doesn't makes Vice City small :s

BC Rich

GTA3 feels bigger to me.

Firesky
05-11-2004, 10:16 AM
It'd probably take less time to get from one end of VC to the other, than from one end of LC to the other, because VC is more straight and simple in it's layout.

BC Rich
05-11-2004, 10:17 AM
So that makes GTA3 bigger.

Firesky
05-11-2004, 10:18 AM
GTA3 has a more complex layout, and it does feel bigger to me.

lasdferret
05-11-2004, 10:41 AM
me to.ya and it has all the hills that vice does not have.

cyrix
05-11-2004, 12:41 PM
i know this might be a little hard to swallow....but erm....according to the previews that were done on vice city alot of mags/sites said that vice city was at least 1 1/2 times bigger than liberty city....go do some research on it....

BC Rich
05-11-2004, 12:56 PM
I don't care about the facts. I just like the way I see it.

.:Mouldy Punk:.
05-11-2004, 01:00 PM
Its because the layout of gta3 is complicated, its not just straight roads like it is in Vice City. And 3 has loads of hills everywhere, so you cant stand on one island and see another easily because a hill will be in the way. Its just an illusion

BC Rich
05-11-2004, 01:02 PM
Oh. GTA3 still seems bigger to me. So I'm gonna stay with that.

cyrix
05-11-2004, 02:40 PM
that's cool it seems bigger, but truth be told vice is much bigger

GTA gamer
05-11-2004, 03:53 PM
the next gta is in san andreas which is on the fault line in california so maby the next one will seem much bigger but i still think gta3 has a bigger course. the getaway has a huge corse i got lost in that game so easily

BC Rich

I haven't checked out san andreas- think they might or have they said anything about random earthquakes in it? ...be cool

BC Rich
05-12-2004, 07:44 AM
The random earthquakes are just things other people are talking about.

Firesky
05-13-2004, 06:51 AM
Nobody knows anything about earthquakes being in San Andreas, we can only guess, and hope.

Libery City was big and jam packed

Vice City is big and empty.

Ramboyf5
05-14-2004, 03:49 AM
Liberty City was also very hard to navigate around because of the terrain.

Firesky
05-14-2004, 05:26 AM
It felt bigger because you couldn't just zoom across from one end to the other in such a short period of time.

I know why the map is so small in Vice! R* was being lazy I guess. Don't argue with me, LC much larger than VC. But it wont matter because SA will be bigger thand both combined than multiplied by three!:)

GTA gamer
05-14-2004, 08:14 AM
so they say

Zee

Well, it seems like there were only two roads that really mattered in the game. The road from mailbu to mansion, and the road from downtown to the docks.

GTA gamer

ya, but maby a few more

BC Rich

I know SA is gonna be bigger than VC and LC.
But anywho, LC still seemed bigger.

GTA3 and VC are the same size pixle wise there was just more to GTA3 mor objects VC is actually a lil bigger perspective wise that is

VC has a big Downtown district

I'ma laugh when SA is gonna be just as easy as VC was VC wasn't even a challenge it was like Mario's world to damned easy but fun :p

BC Rich

I would be sad because I was expecting more.

You never know,I wonder what their budget on SA is.

BC Rich

I don't care really just curious as to how much they spent on a video game. I know it takes about 36 months to fully create such a grphical game and all but c'mon they have to had spent atleast $500,000.oo

Colonel V

liberty city is smaller than vice city. in fact, vice city is approximately 1.5 times bigger, but liberty is much much much more realistic i.e. steam coming from vents, reflections in the road (which is very cleverly done; i just worked out how they did it), and in liberty, the metropolis of staunton has much taller buildings than vice, and the buildings are very close together. liberty just feels bigger, also because of the road network (which is also why San Angeles is gonna be bloody hard to remmber; all the city on one island)

Carz
05-15-2004, 06:56 AM
VC bigger than LC? Lay off the 'cid people! But, if Cyrix found the info, it must be true.

BC Rich
05-15-2004, 12:18 PM
OK. So maybe LC is smaller than VC. But that hasn't stopped me from wondering why VC's map is so small.

Ramboyf5
05-16-2004, 01:31 AM
There are advantages and disadvantages in both maps though.
Vice City's map - colorful, shows alleyways, shows a triangle blip if your higher or lower than something or a square to show that your in a balance level with something.
Liberty City's map - not that much color, bigger, no alley ways shown, does not have that triangle/square blip feature.
There probably are more advantages and disadvantages but I can't bother to go on.

BC Rich
05-16-2004, 01:33 AM
I'm pretty sure there are a lot.

Mad Max
05-16-2004, 09:16 AM
VC is 1.5 times bigger then LC. In VC a lot of space is lost because of the beach and the ocean around the stadium and towards the airport. LC is much more compacter.

GTA gamer
05-16-2004, 12:06 PM
the airport and the beach were a waste of space.
i live in florda and i know that the beaches arnt as big as they are on vice city (from the road to the water not long ways) and the airport is the right size but thers nothing to do there

BC Rich
05-16-2004, 12:15 PM
You live in Florida too?
Anyway, VC was bigger 'cause it had more water. And the beaches had a lot of ambulance patients. The airport was good for stunting.

No1Kn0w$
05-16-2004, 08:57 PM
I like the beach

Reasons
Lots of cash
People to kill
Easy to run from cops
Although i can run from cops in lil havana and not wreck my skills are un touchable on the PS2 version

Ramboyf5
05-17-2004, 04:05 AM
But the beach has a down to it, most of it is a waste of space that could've been used for better things.

BC Rich
05-17-2004, 07:54 AM
I only go there to pick up patients. I've only found 2 hidden packages and 1 rampage.

GTA3 seems bigger because when they calculated the size of Vice City, they probably included building rooftops. Plus, there are a lot of places that you don't even bother to go to in Vice City. For instance, the beach on the first island, the grassy plain like area in the northern part of the second island, the small area behind Phil's, etc.

giftedinthepants
05-17-2004, 05:19 PM
There were a lot of things said about GTA 3 and Vice before their releases, and they weren't featured in the game. They size was most likely changed.

The beach, I go there. The grassy area on the northern part of the second island, if you are talking about the one next the the Hyman Stadium, I always go there. And the area behind Phil's Place is the brick road area, right? I've been there.

the airport needed a cuple of helis and a dodo with wheels that can fly

05-22-2004, 12:08 PM
screw dodos they need all out 747's with complete interiors!!! i agree with the whole wasted space thing. the beach and the airport were truly a waste of space. i hope GTA:S.A. keeps the size claim that rock* has announced already, but keeps a minimal on the wasted space.

If you think about it, VC Is much bigger, BECAUSE when they calculated vice city, they included, INSIDE of buildings, the beach, inside of the airport, all the hideouts, the roofs! They are calculating the places in which you can actually walk on. GTA3 on the other hand, has no buildings to walk in, not many roofs to jump on. Lets face it, GTA3 was basically roads and a bit of grass. VC has roads, grass and sand.

In my opinion, My MIND thinks GTA3 is bigger, but my BRAIN knows that VC is bigger.

I prefer GTA3 map to VC, VC Map absouletely sucked.

BC Rich
05-24-2004, 04:58 PM
Oh well.
ON TOPIC: The beach was useless. It's useful for the RC mission. Nothing else. The beach is mainly where size of VC comes from. So don't worry about it.

GTA gamer
05-24-2004, 09:45 PM
ok im getting that vc is bigger but does any1 know why it was made with alot of wasted space?

NightKnight
05-24-2004, 10:24 PM
To make it look bigger.

BC Rich
05-25-2004, 12:35 AM
To make it look like Florida. With the big beaches that is.

GTA gamer
05-25-2004, 01:18 PM
the beaches are tooo big (to wide) and i agree with NightKnight

BC Rich
05-25-2004, 10:50 PM
Too wide and long. I know. But that's where most of VC's size is from.

GTA gamer
05-26-2004, 12:29 PM
since i live in florida i think its just to wide the lendth is great though

but i do agree with bc rich

I like the vice city map. Its too hard to drive around liberty and not get shot at... at least in vc only the hatians shoot at you. But there is more mountains and off rodaing in lc so thats cool.

BC Rich
05-28-2004, 11:47 PM
I know. You nearly get killed by the Mafia or other gang members when you're in their territory. It was also hard to find places in GTA3 as well.

GTA gamer
05-31-2004, 10:28 PM
ya i agree with you both

vc should of had some offroad terrain

BC Rich
05-31-2004, 10:31 PM
I would expect the desert and mountains to be big. But useful.

GTA gamer
06-01-2004, 11:24 AM
the mountains probly would be use full and FUN

you could bo to the top in a bf injection and drive down the side of the moutain that would be coooool

BC Rich
06-01-2004, 01:06 PM
Yeah. I know. Maybe there'll be missions there. I hope the size of SA depends on the countryside and desert areas.

nicksanandreas
06-01-2004, 03:29 PM
I like the GTA 3 map with the bridges, subways, and trains. I think the vice city map was kinda weak. The beach was a total waste of space. They coulda put in a lot more buildings and important stuff there and still have enough beach. the streets of GTA 3 were a lot more dangerous with the Mafia and Columbians. The vice city streets were wimpy and boring.. the haitians were the only ones shooting that was the only action really. I noticed if you pronounce "Vercetti" it almost sounds like "vice city" lol

Im really looking forward to San Andreas with countryside, mountains, and desert. That is exactly what California looks like, I know because i live in san diego. And I know San Andreas comes from the earthquake fault line in california. Its gonna be fun to cruise around on a bicycle, jet skis, and hopefully jumbo jet planes!

BC Rich
06-01-2004, 03:41 PM
Yes, jumbo jets, I think. I know the parts in between the cities are gonna be there for a reason.

GTA gamer
06-03-2004, 08:26 PM
i hope

lol ""Vercetti" = vice city"

BC Rich
06-03-2004, 10:29 PM

I think some things that added to the illusion that LC was much bigger than VC are that in VC, you can use the helicopters and planes to get from place to place. You have that nice high viewpoint that allows you to see a lot more of the city. Also with the helicopters, going places is much faster than in LC. The motorcycles helped add to this effect too in my mind. In LC, there were very few fast cars on the first or second islands. In VC though, there are PCJ's on both sides of the map. A city tends to seem a lot smaller if you're going by at top speed in a PCJ than it does when you're going by in a manana or mule.

VanHeist
06-21-2004, 10:02 PM
Yeah ravensfan is right I think. But, GTAIII does seem more "urbanish" than Vice City and much bigger because of hills and more buildings.

In San Andreas, I hope I won't get lost because it is going to be REALLY BIG! like 3 times Vice City = One city in San Andreas.

GTA gamer
06-22-2004, 06:21 PM
yes it will be much bigger than vice but it will actualy be 4x as big but whatever vice had so much wasted space i play gta 3 alittle more

Tupac
