In 2001 I was considering what I should do next , constant thinking of the future , I decided to take the advice I was given and just let it unfold...so I did , and it freed up my mind and it all worked out for the best.

So I did what really freed my mind , a lot (also a great side benefit ) i got to know my kid better , he came in one day and seen I was playing gta III , he watched for a time , making comments about how it was a cool game , had heard talk at school about it .

So I said to him here , you play a bit . I set back to watch him , and I swear , for over 2 hours he just walked every where , I got to the point where I had to ask him , hey how come you have not got in a car once. He said " I don't want to miss anything"

So I understood , like myself speeding thru life , he had learned not to do , what I had done , not seeing everything when its all speeding by you at warp speed...wisdom from one so young.

He did get a car , it was worth the wait ....and yeah it got messed up quick, started smoking, flames shooting up , it was time to bail!! He did just in the nick of time.

Maybe another reason he walked around for the 1st hours , the car blew and we both lol. He must of hit every pole, car, wall, etc; in the game...his driving skill got better by the end of the day.

but better , we got better...at life, together.

I like older forum members cause they always post interesting shit about life and living and junk. Also they're not annoying like most younger members.

That is a very interesting life concept. I agree completely. I actually applied a GTA concept to my life as well. I discovered that whenever I wander around aimlessly in the GTA world (Liberty City in GTA IV), I become bored rather quickly and lose my interest in the game. But when I play through the storyline missions, I am constantly engaged and always looking forward to the next objective, whether I am already familiar with it or not.

This concept applies to my life quite significantly, seeing as I get very bored and uninspired with life when I choose to be lazy and counterproductive. I choose make every second count, and always be doing something that betters me somehow. Or I will at least be thinking of things I can do to use my time wisely so I feel like I've truly accomplished something positive at the end of each day. And of course I will have my relaxing days, but if my relaxing days start to feel repetitive, I make an effort to mix it up and do something out of the ordinary.

These life lessons have been brought to you by Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto IV :)

This is why all attempts to squash gta failed , because people like yourselfs (all walks of life) play the game.Old ,young, the world over , play this game and others to relax , get a thrill , just chill...exploring and checking out the world your in , the fact its a game world can free your mind , no matter if you play at 130 mph or just a slow walk in town listening to the peds.

thx for the kind words aswell. ;)

That's a great lesson.. about slowing down. It's hard to see the present clearly for all that it is, without thinking of a different time and place to be. But here, now, is where I want to be. And bless video game designers. Games are my "pause button" for life. Whenever life is too fast to handle, I can jump into a different world to relax. I'll be gaming until the day I die.

It's amazing that something touted as evil can actually be good for the mental health. I always liked how I could be doing something in a GTA game, trying to focus on it, and end up just poking around. It's odd that so much can be accomplished from so little achieved.

I lived in the fast lane , thrill junky , I'm not giving it up the rush totaly just seeking a balance, but I realized " slowing down " as it where , to smell the roses , get to know my kids , finding out that it helps my mind , a meditation if you will ...yup like kodo said about slowing down .

I think he would agree , it has a mind freeing affect to it , I'm amazed I never learned this years ago.

I did learn to control the urge years back tho , thankfully.
