I've decided to free my mind!
It sounds sort of strange, but sometimes I experiment with my own mind, usually to test my memory. I plant something somewhere, something that will reveal itself soon either by my remembering or by my not remembering. Here are some examples...
At school, when I would eat at the dining hall before going to work, I would grab two peppermints afterwards. I would eat one, and then I'd put the other in my back pocket. The idea would be to see whether or not I'd remember I had a peppermint in my pocket four hours later when I'm bored at work. It happened that around half the time I'd eat it and half the time I'd wind up remembering it when I was back at home and changing out of my clothes.
Yesterday I actually did something like this again, and remembering it just now made me want to write this post. Before leaving work yesterday at 6PM, I (out of boredom) poked about 20 holes in a paper cup with a thumbtack. I left the paper cup on my desk with the holes pointing away from my chair so that it's not visible unless I turn the cup around and inspect it. This morning when I got in at 9AM, I saw the cup and realized I was thirsty so I went to the cooler to fill it and boom, water started pouring out the side and onto the floor :P I saw water falling on my shoes and thought what the hell is wrong with this cooler, then I remembered what I did to the cup yesterday!
My conclusion with all this is that I'm not that great at remembering trivial things, even things I do intentionally. I have a generally good memory - very photographic, as in I can look at a piece of paper, a face, a place, etc and then fully see it in my mind even years later - but small things like this just seem to get past me! Maybe by writing this post I won't forget anymore, we shall see...
