So, I know everyone here is pretty young. We're all doing our thing, and starting off in the world. I'm just curious as to what some of your goals are for your life. What do you want to do with yourself as a person, to take full advantage of the time you've got.

For me, I'm going to school for visual communications and advertising. I want to study up film and editing. After school for four years I want to work a job, then join the peace corps. I want to travel the world and help people for a few years then come back and continue with more education. After that, I will take up my career and live life. Travel, do things I wanted to do. My goal is simple, to experience and learn as much as possible. You only live once, right?

Unfortunately, things never go exactly as planned. But I'll see how I turn out.

Thanks for reading! Come. Indulge. Share. Won't you?

I've finished my schooling. My next plans are to go to university and study video game programming and do that for a while. If it's as interesting as i think it will be then i'll keep that as a career. Invest and shit and just make sure i have enough money to retire on easily so i can travel and do all sorts of shit when im done working. I know i'll be able to do that eventually because i'll have a big inheritance, but i'd much rather make my own living.

I'm currently pursuing a BS in Computer Information Science. What I'd like to do is make video games. However, I'm starting to wonder if I'd actually like to just do the programming aspect of making a game. It seems to be one of the most boring parts but my artistic skills are lacking and I'm not sure how you would get into the actual designing of a game (as far as schooling goes). I want to try to make a game on my own before I graduate from college so I have something accomplished that I could show to companies when I go looking for a job.
I still live at home but I really want to move out and possibly leave the state, I don't see much opportunity here for me. Most CIS majors from my school work for Raytheon or other companies that do programming for government and military projects, which isn't what I want to do. I'd possibly want to move to another part of the country if a game developer would hire me there.

I agree with you. I could not program a lot, the artistic side of the game seems much more appealing to me. When I was deciding what I wanted to do for a career, gaming was totally at the top of the latter. But It's an extremely competitive field.

It would probably have to be a large investment for you to go out of state and get a job. But if you did happen to get the job, it would be an investment well worth it. When I say investment I mean you'd probably have to go out of state for a while in preparation for the job. Maybe even have to live there temporarily as an intern. If you get the job, that's what counts.

Going in Grade 12 in High School in September. I am going in Video game Programming Career, I am thinking of going to New York University. After that will apply in different companies like EA, Rockstar Games, Ubisoft. After I have enough experience and money will open my own company in USA. I will move anywhere if a Company hire me.

yea a friend of mine was talking to me last year about starting our own little game developer studio and hopefully make a good game or two and get noticed and see what happens from there. I'm very skeptical of having any real success that way but I'd love to have complete control over the games I make.
Also I'm not sure he even wants to do it with me anymore, I barely talk to him he's been a big bitch lately, but he's switching up his courses and taking a minor in digital media since he also doesn't want to just be a programmer. sounds interesting as fuck but i dunno if I could stay another year or so at school. I'm already a year behind what I should be.

I'm taking time off with the period between highschool and university. It pisses me off when people come to me at work and have the normal small talk like "so what are you doing at the moment?"

"i'm just working 7 days a week to save up for university"
"OH, so you're not studying or doing anything else? My daughter went straight to uni and she's almost finished"

It fucking pisses me off, I do not have the money to start uni without working first. Considering i'm going to uni on the other side of New Zealand

So basically, i'm saving up as much as i can and moving down to the south island where I was born, going to go to university for probably 5 years doing Psychology. During that time I will decide what particular strand of psychology I want to do, whether it be clinical (helping people) or something else. I'd like to do clinical but i'm not sure. When i'm doing the degree i'll get a feel for what I do and don't like.

I wanted to travel before uni but I just can't afford it. Though I am going to go on a roadtrip of New Zealand next year before I start uni which will be amazing. Once uni is over I will try to get a job in my chosen area in Psychology and get the additional training needed. I'm already getting experience doing Victim Support work for the police which is really rewarding work.

Other than that, I dunno, life can take me where it will.

Right now I'm looking for a job so I can work for another year. Then I'll get into college, I'm not really sure what to go for though. I want to write, maybe creatively, but I'm not really sure. In the midst of working, I'm going to be doing some writing on the side, of all different kinds. This is so I can see what exactly I like the most, and also so I can have some written work if I need it. Also, I want to take welding as a minor. A nice, profitable trade to fall back on.

I plan on moving to LA to attend acting school. While I'm there I also plan on shopping around a really good headshot, basically I'm cocky and narcissistic and do believe I can make it as a film actor. at least with moderate degree of success.

Going into my senior and final year of high school in a couple weeks. I plan on doing some college researching and finding a good school for me in the tri-state area (NJ, PA, NY). I want to study subjects relative to design including graphic, web, and multimedia design. From a business perspective, I would like to apply these skills with in marketing and PR. With all these acquired skills I feel I will be well rounded for the field. From there on, who knows. I'll look for jobs and see what I can do.
