Looks like their E3 secret is out. Oh boy.

16GB onboard storage, no UMD drive. Buttons slide out from underneath. Bluetooth.

New games coming:
LittleBigPlanet
Gran Turismo
Metal Gear Solid

This was all supposed to be revealed at E3.

I'm guessing that the MGS teasers are the PSP one?

If so, damn.

I don't give a fuck about the PSP so if the new MGS is on PSP I'm going to be dissapointed.

Also the analog stick placement is just

No two analog sticks god damn it. And the one that's there looks awkwardly placed. Other than that, pretty neat.

They should really just focus on making the PS3 better than the Xbox 360... though I'm interested in seeing what it can do.

The no UMD thing is going to suck, because you'll need to download the games. Not everyone has fast download speeds, you know. :(

Also I think the PSP 1000 and PSP 2000 look much better than this thing.

Also, Neil, in those pictures you just posted, it looks like the faceplate of the thing is melted over all the little imperfections under it. WTH is up with that.

Will they still be putting the new games on UMDs so that people with old PSPs can still play them or will they only be doing digital distribution from now on. If they are doing digital distribution only then that is like a big fuck you to all the people who bought the PSP 3000 about nine months ago.

Does anyone else see sony becoming the handheld company? a bit like nintendo was for a while.

I have a PS3 but don't play on it much. I wish they'd make a few decent games for that instead.

Honestly, PS3 has a pretty damn good library and I can't imagine that being an argument anymore.

The original PSP was too gimmicky for me.

This ones worse.

Is the screen smaller? Or does it only look that way, will this version have a better screen compared to the superior PSP-3000 screen? Also, Vini, MGS PO is a PSP exlcusive game and covers a small part of the Big Boss story on how he was betrayed by the CIA and got the idea for Outer Heaven from the men in charge of the operation, etc. It's actually a very good story, not needed for the main 4 but fills in some small details on why Big Boss changed.

That design sucks. It looks like they're trying to rip off the DS without having the extra screen. Not too mention it looks so awkward to hold. Hopefully this will end up like the PS3 controller when it was originally announced and undergo some changes for the better.

I remember reading the original PS3 controller design felt a lot more natural to hold and made gaming more comfortable, but people judge it on looks instead because sadly, even though it may feel natural and comfortable, it still looked like a boomerang dildo.

If it was a boomerang dildo, it would be a REAL entertainment system then.

I personally hate the feel of the PS3 controller. It feels so blocky now that my hands are bigger. Why couldn't they take a lesson from MS and curve the thing with a bigger grip. Or at least have the option available.

That reminds me of that Wii Homebrew thing or whatever a few years ago. Where it was pretty much something that turned the Wiimote into a vibrator. It came with this stuff for online sex and stuff or something. It was whack.

Looks cool and all, but I'm trying to figure out how the hell you play the PSP games you already own on it. Assuming they're all going to be available to purchase and download, well how the hell are you able to confirm you've purchased a game already that you wish to download?

And yeah the analog dub placement is terrible. Sexy otherwise.

The original PSP and this one will still play the same games. It's just a newer model for anyone that's wondering.

Now I don't know how they would do this, but I can see them bringing out a PSP ripper software for the older model, allowing you to rip all of your UMDs to your memory card.

oh and I'll stick to my PSP which is collecting dust on the window sill thank you very much

This will make it so much easier for pirates though. Dunno what Sony are thinking.

05-30-2009, 04:36 PM
Well to be fair, I've already expressed my feelings on the PSP and the utter failure that is the UMD drive but you have to admit that Sony are pretty much just copying the Pirates, Sony themselves have saw how much better and efficently games run from ISO compared to the disaster that is UMD, anyone with a hacked PSP and a large memory stick has been able to do the whole running games from Memory Stick from the get go, even more ironic is that the ISO Loaders use the drivers Sony MADE for the PSP long before Sony even launched their Digital Download service. :D

Looks cool. But I'm not buying a PSP again.

Also why no dual analog sticks and why is start UNDER select? Start is always on the right so in this case right would equal top and left would equal bottom.

Neil
05-30-2009, 08:29 PM
What? Sony is a Japanese company that also does lots of business in Western countries. In all of these places people think from top left to bottom right, meaning that select should indeed be above start when laid out like that.

Ash_735
05-31-2009, 06:15 AM
Also why no dual analog sticks

Because it's a PSP, like, it's the same thing man, it's never changing, it'll always have 1 analog stick man, it's the curse, THE CURSE! Also read previous page for actual explantion on why it will never have a second analog stick, but if you want the tl;dr version, IT'S STILL A PSP.

I'd like to point to the DSi and the Dualshock controllers...The DSi is still a DS, but comes with two cameras and removes the GBA slot (used to play Guitar hero...) The Dualshock was still a PS controller, but it added the analogue sticks and rumble feature, allowing more games to be played. They could easily add another nub or 2 analogue sticks to it and have all the old games be playable while moving forward.

Looks cool, depending on the price i may consider buying one so hopefully some cool games are announced at E3.

Looks like their E3 secret is out. Oh boy.i was under the impression Sony released the info in junes episode of Qore, so i dont see how this is an E3 secret.

I considered the removal of the GBA Slot on the DSi a mistake to for the same reasons, as for the PS1 controller, I understand that all PS1 games are compatable with the original controller, the exceptions was Ape Escsape, that was one of the very few games. And with the way analog sticks are used in todays gaming, people will only moan if they add a second stick and still not allow FPS games to use them. So it would be a Lose/Lose situation regarding the PSP.

TwistedArachnid
05-31-2009, 03:17 PM
Why wouldn't they allow FPS games to use both sticks if they added another to the PSP?

Plus I agree, I do see the removal of a GBA slot as a mistake on the DSi, but I don't plan on buying one. However, someone who doesn't play GBA games or has a GBA SP or something, might not care and get a DSi anyway. It really wouldnt affect me since I don't play Guitar Hero...

And despite the mistake, the DSi is selling pretty well.

Because apperently in the interview about the PSP Go they were talking about E3 in past tense.

Why wouldn't they allow FPS games to use both sticks if they added another to the PSP?

Because the game would then not work with current PSP's and Sony would not allow it to be released, that's the whole catch, if they do add a Second Stick, no game would be able to use it properly as the games would still be reuired o work on ALL Models of the PSP. What you have to remember is that the PSP is the same PSP spec wise, this isn't a PSP2 or a something it's the same thing that was released in 2005, what games work now (and in future) also have to work on systems from first release.

Now if Sony add a Second Stick, a game makes an FPS that uses the second stick for camera, OOPS, now the entire PSP-1000, 2000 and 3000 market won't be able to play the game properly.

TwistedArachnid

Personally, I think it's too soon after the 3000 to even release another model.

But, I don't see why it'd matter. If the goal is to get you to upgrade and spend more money on this thing, wouldn't they want to kind of make you need to upgrade to play new games? Plus, they could just add a second control scheme in the event an older PSP is being used. Not too mention it wouldn't be any different than the DSi really with it's store. I have a DS Lite, I can't play anything on the DSi store. If I want to, I'd have to upgrade. And some games use the camera on the DSi. If I want to play those games, I need to upgrade.

Neil

I think we'll have to wait and see what Sony has to say before jumping to any conclusions. For what it's worth you can already download PSP games from the PlayStation Store and run them on previous models. I'd imagine with the introduction of this new machine they are just planning to significantly increase the number of games offered in this way.

Go and argue with Sony then if you think you have a good enough point! What Nintendo can do doesn't matter as the DS and Wii are cash cows for Nintendo and they can do no wrong in the General casual Publics eyes. All I'm saying is common business sense would mean they wouldn't way to to turn around and say FUCK YOU to current PSP owners by adding a second stick and making games that will only work on that console. To be honest i think they should drop the PSP all together and focus on a PSP 2, and then add a second analog stick, so then, everyone can stop bitching about it not having a second analog stick, I swear I see more people complaining about the Analog Stick than I do about the lack of games for the thing.

I'm just stating that if it worked for Nintendo, and Sony feels the PSP is so great to keep re-releasing it, it shouldn't matter if there's backward support or not.

Plus I agree that there should be a PSP2 rather than numerous re-releases of it.

And out of curiosity, from the exclamation mark and language/tone, are you getting angry?

And out of curiosity, from the exclamation mark and language/tone, are you getting angry?

Not at all, the language wasn't from me really, more of what it would be from Sony to current fans if they did do that. Just mild annoyance at all the would be experts who keep moaning about the second analog stick, ask yourself, do you really think Sony are just sat there and NOT thought about a second analog stick? :P
