What rpg game do you think is the greatest rpg of all time. Doesn't matter witch console.

What makes it great:

Story
Gameplay
Graphics
Ect.....

the basic necessities of a good rpg

As for me yes it would be ES: Oblivion man i loved that game and still do it had a good story. The Emperor dies and you have to find his only son and well I'm sure everyone knows it. It has amazing graphics the world is just enormous always something new and there is many side quest to do and i loved the different guilds and doing their quests and also the following expansion packs to it Knight of The Nine and Shivering Isles many different races to choose from at the beginning, different classes, birth signs, even being able to fine-tune your appearance and if what in the game isn't good enough just being able to go online and download add-ons and mods even buy some of their plug-ins. Overall it was and is still a great experience. If you haven't played it yet then you definitely need to.

Any RPG which can successfully immerse the player is a great RPG to me.

I really liked FF7, FF8 and FF9, but everything after was recycled cliche BS.

I'd say Oblivion is the best RPG ever made, and Morrowind & Fallout 3 come close

I personally love FFVIII and IX...VIII was the first FF and first RPG I ever played. It came on a pizza hut demo. Man the memories. (Anyone know if XI is any good?)

I also like Kingdom Hearts and The World Ends with You. Magical Starsign was nice...

Oh and Legend of Dragoon of course. FFVIII is my favorite though. I haven't had a chance to really play 7 though...Maybe that could be my plan for the summer.

Final Fantasy VII, was probably one of the greatest of all time.
But as for modern day RPG's, Oblivion, hands down.
Fallout 3 is probably in second behind Oblivion.

Strange enough I could never EVER get into a Final Fantasy game, just never interested me, then Final Fantasy X came out and I loved it, finished the game twice and after that, never ever got into another Final Fantasy game since. I don't know what it was about X but it just seemed to click right away, that and it had the awesome character Auron.

I'll pick final fantasy VIII and IX, both are awesome, I played IX first and completed it like 5 times, maybe more, later I got final fantasy VIII and finished it like 4 times.
Since then my favorite character of all is Squall, I use that name all the time, I even tried registering here using Squall as my username but it was already taken, and my gamertag is Squall1011.

Yeah, FF7 isn't as good as 8 and 9, but I started with 8 and was blown away (keep in mind I was like, 12?) so going back to FF7 seemed weird and ancient, even then.

As for Bethesda and the Elder Scrolls series, I'm not sure how they're going to top Oblivion. But if they can pull it off (and I bet they will) that'll be our favorite RPG for many years to come. Something they do just right every time.

Final Fantasy VIII or Oblivion. Narrowing it down any further would be extremely difficult.

I love oblivion, setting, story, everything just draws me in more and more... my profile has like 600+ hours played and that's just making up my own little crazy stories

But i can't believe no one has mentioned Mass Effect

Shenmue - Best RPG/Adventure game ive ever played. Ground breaking stuff. Amazing graphics for it time, amazing dialogue for its time. Amazingly immersive world and a great story (even though its not finished, and probably wont be)

Mass Effect - Best Sci-Fi RPG ever, probably the most film like game experience (other then MGS, but that's not an RPG so k)

Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic - Had a blast with this back in the day, played it for so long, and took me nearly a year to comeplete there was so much to do. (that and i just couldn't beat Malak at the end, cos i was a noob at RPG's back in the day and never leveled up my character properly so i was shit)

I've always wanted to play Mass Effect, but I lack a 360.
I'd get it on the computer, but I haven't read much on it, such as bugs and glitches, are there many?

A few, just as any game really. Doesn't affect the game though.

I don't know which is better: Fallout 3 or Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. GTA IV would be up there if there was more activities and customization. Mass Effect is up there as well.

Ten is probably the most playable. It's pretty easy to follow, but still quite intricate, the sphere grid system is a real nice fresh way to level up. It looked great. The script was pretty awful though. But yeah, the battle system was quite fast paced and really playable.

I can play through VIII and enjoy it but it pisses me off in so many ways.

First off, I hate having to watch summon sequences over and over, and since it's your most powerful attack and it cost nothing to do, you might as well just do it over and over again. I know how to get Squall's best weapon on disc one and I always end up at around 5000 health, at level 11, by the end of disk one, which is ridiculous.

Secondly the story sucks compared to 7.9.10.12. The whole love story felt convoluted and frankly, I'd have let Rinoa fall off that rope because she had annoying personality, and a weapon that can only be described as gay.

However the card game ruled so much, I basically went through the entire game just so i could get the best cards, leveling up the summons was pretty fun and even though watching the sequences sucked, I enjoyed the system it was built into. Also Edea is a pretty cool antagonist.

You should try 7 or 9, the battling is way faster too, I remember the fighting moments on 8 were terribly slow.

FFVII closely followed by FFVIII

I didn't play nine and i didnt really get into ten. The only i enjoyed in ten before giving up was Blitzball.

The script was pretty awful though.

What do you mean, I consider the Tidus and Yuna "Let's Laugh" moment one of the be...no I can't even be sarcastic about that, it was just cringeworthy

I guess the main reason I played X was also because it just seemed interesting off the bat, I'm a sucker for the whole future city stuff and seeing the PS2 do this city which only moments later to be attacked by this giant, ..thing and then have this awesome fucking warrior just stand there like it's a casual day whilst everyone is screaming and crying and then being thrown into a battle whilst not knowing anything, and then having this future city being absorb whilst Auron is still not giving a shit, followed by waking up in some ruins and finding out the city was destroyed over 1,000 years ago. ...

It just left me with a massive WTF I NEED TO COMPLETE THIS feeling. :P

Oblivion for depth, Fallout 3 for theme/era.

I can't decide between both, but those two factors seperate them for me.

The story plays out great, the whole pilgrimage thing, and the Zanarkand stuff, but yeah there were momnents like the 'HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA' bit from Yuna/Tidus, whenever Lulu talks she irritates me, some other parts with Seymour.

Other than that Auron rules, and his theme is badassed.

Oblivion
Mass Effect
FF 9

Its somewhat irritating that I'm yet to play an rpg with more spoken dialog than FFX (bar oblivion where there were about 4 voices) it particularly pisses me off because its last gen.
