Apparently it's coming out tomorrow(Well today but y'know) and the latest update on Valve's website is that the new Sniper melee attack will be a pissjug.

Just like the ones in Trailer Park Boys.

Awesome.

I fucking hate the fact that they changed it.

My explanation of the new unlock system:

Imagine you are a senior in highschool. You have studied and worked hard for the past 4 years to get good grades. However, as graduation looms, the schoolboard up and decides that the current system is "unfair" to a minority of the students, and that diplomas will now be given out by a Random Number Generator. Almost instantly, a Freshman is granted a diploma, patted on the back, and sent out the door. You still study and work hard, waiting for your turn. After about a week, Randal, the school's resident drug dealer, who never shows up in class, doesn't do his homework, and just sits in the bathroom dealing dope gets his diploma. You feel an inner rage, but you keep working hard.

Three months later, you get a letter in the mail from your school. Excited, you open it up!

"CONGRATULATIONS", it says "YOU HAVE PASSED THIRD GRADE".

THAT is the new unlock system.

Hit the nail on the head, Mazzlow.
I really think they're gonna change it back. Valve does listen to the community, and they probably know that there is an up-roar about the entire update. Just give them time, they'll fix it.
Eventually.

Yeah, i didn't understand one bit of the riddles mazz said. So is anybody capable of giving a rational post on how the new system works? I don't play TF2, i understand the way things worked until now, but i don't get why everybody is so guido about it now.

Well, basically, the way to get the new weapons is to play the game and wait your turn to win a "lottery" of sorts. The game, at random points in the game, will choose someone and choose a weapon or item for them to get. Getting achievements or a high K/D ratio etc does not contribute towards your chance of getting a new item / weapon.
It's completely random, and players cannot choose which item they want, and try to get it by completing tasks or achievements.

The entire steam community shit itself. I think the devs will revert it soon or something.

That's a pretty bad system. Why would they want to have it running in the first place, big mistake.

They used to have the unlocks tied to achievement milestones. You get say, 16 achievements for a certain class, you unlock a milestone achievement, you get your new unlock.
But this was abused due to programs being able to unlocks any and all achievements. I think this is why Valve changed the system.

Would a system based on Score/Kills/Whatever be any better? It's still abusable, but anything is better than a Lucky Prick system.

Especially when you have 2 Backburners, 5 Sandviches and 2 BONK's.

Yup, instead of rewarding good players with better weapons, they reward everyone rarely with an upgrade.

Not really.

Did you enjoy TF2 beforehand? Or is it simply the new unlockables that make or break the game? The way i see it, while there is no garuntee you get the new weapons, it stops everyone from farming with the sniper, or the spy. You can play whatever class you feel best at, and still earn achievements for those classes. Frankly I think they should just give out weapons with the update, but this way, you don't get entire groups of people, hogging classes, for entire matches.

It's obviously miles better this way.

& yeah Steam crashed, did you really expect different?

Yup, instead of rewarding good players with better weapons, they reward everyone rarely with an upgrade.

The rewards should come from pulling something off in the game. Like backstabbing a couple of engis after you've sapped their sentry nest. While I understand why you would think this, all it really does is encourage people to go to achievement servers. And that's such a cop out.
