The PC version of first-person zombie slaying game Left 4 Dead will be free to play this weekend. Beginning Friday at midnight, you will have 24 hours to experience the joy and wonder of single player and online, co-op Left 4 Dead on your PC.

Letting gamers play this title (and the "Survival" DLC!) is like a drug pusher giving potential customers a taste of the product; I defy anyone to spend a day playing Left 4 Dead and then not buy it. Very sneaky, Valve, but I am on to you, buddy.

You can pre-load everything you need to play right now, at the source link.

Beginning Friday at 12:01 am GMT, the PC version of Left 4 Dead will be available for a free 24-hour trial via Steam. The free trial will include access to the recently released Survival Pack DLC, which introduces a new multiplayer game mode and two additional Versus campaigns. Those who wish to give L4D and the Survival Pack a try may now pre-load everything needed to play with no obligation to purchase.

That's pretty nice of them. I've been wanting to play this game, but none of the trailers/videos I've seen have really pushed me over the 'i need this' line, so I've yet to buy it, but this might do the trick.

It's a pretty fun game. Problem is i need Multicore support disabled else the game crashes every 15 minutes.

It still crashes one per hour now with multicore support disabled, but it's alot better than before.

Also, a survival mode would be awesome. I remember playing Road to Fiddlers Green, we had 64 players in a small house/mansion. We had unlimited amount of wood to barricade bedrooms/doors/windows. Zombies were slow but you had almost 1000 zombies on screen at any given moment. Separating into small group and using debris and other shit to block ourselves and try to survive as long as possible was one of the best moments of gaming life.
