If you're a second class Xbox Live citizen, and you still have a "silver" account, soon, you'll get a look at how the other, golden half lives. This weekend, between May 1 through May 4, anyone with an Xbox 360 can access the full gold level of service. Thanks, Microsoft!

I'm sure silver users will line up for the chance to move up in the world, but I gotta wonder, now that the Xbox 360 has been around awhile, overall, do you think the gold service is worth the price? In your experience is the 360's much-lauded Xbox live network worth the $50 a year it costs now or is the PlayStation Network's price of "free" a better offer? Did the price of playing online enter into your decision as to which console to buy?

Don't bait a bloody console war, and if I honestly have to say, yes, I consider Xbox Live Gold worth the price. Silver users don't really have to line up, it's an automatic process that will just switch all Silvers to Golds right away for those few days, good for people on Silver who have Multiplayer games and want to give it a try.

anything related to xbox and ps3 becomes a console war
but on topic.. while i'm extremely cheap and originally thought paying for xbox live was ridiculous once all my friends were on it and playing all the time i didn't hesitate to dish out 50 bucks for a year subscription. Also a friend of mine who is a gold member and recently bought a ps3 said he hates psn and has trouble getting a game going. But thats just his opinion since I haven't tried it myself.

What happened to his psn that he has a trouble getting a game going?

OK i do not want to start a war or anything but the playstation online and x box online are exactly the same and don't evens tart i own both the are the same shit sony is a better option the only diffract is that u guys pay $60 a year witch is the price difference plus the sony playstion 3 has alot more bang for your buck and wireless built in and blue ray witch equals better graphics

Blu-ray does not equal better graphics... just more disc space :)

This is cool news indeed. I'll let some of my "silver" buddies know.

I said no Console War, your comment is just baiting, especially with your wrong information that Blu-ray equals better graphics when it doesn't.

ok blue ray equals more space so there is more room for additional features eg graphics or more levels...

another fact you got wrong was the price
xbox live was $50 a year but i believe they dropped it to $40 recently (although it may have only been a limited time) and i believe you could get it for $38 from amazon and newegg
also sorry if you're from australia or canada cause obviously the dollar values would be different.

And zeeshan my friend said he couldn't find a match for the longest time in killzone 2
he said playing online was a pain in the ass, like i said its just what he told me i don't know for myself
but i did find out recently that psn doesn't have some of the basic voice/text chat features of xbox live which i always thought it had
although they said they were coming out with text chat for psn soon or something.

Personally, I prefer the PSN, because honestly online gaming should be free, and Gold doesn't do much more than the PSN does for free, other than Netflix and some downloads a bit earlier. But on the Xbox, choosing between Gold's benefits and Silvers..non-benefits, I'd say Gold is worth it. Though I think they should lower the price sometime soon.

Is this the first time they've ever done this? Gold for free.

I know they did a few days where silver members could play online in GTA IV back when TLAD was released but that was just online play for one game, this is the whole thing.

You have the price for Xbox Live wrong, you don't know how bad wireless is for gaming, and you have NO idea how game development works. You sound pretty young and naive.

Do you make a dollar for every day you work at the shoe factory?

Edit: Never mind, forgot the kind of stuff you like to get. You have money.

Mo' Money, NO Problems. ;)

I already got gold, so no worries.
But it is pretty cool that Microsoft is doing something for the silver people.
Maybe they will see the online count and notice they should give
it out for free forever!
