View Full Version : Zombie Apocalypse

I've been thinking and discussing this with friends recently, the possibility of zombies being a plausible apocalypse. I figured with the wonders of modern technology, a type of nerve agent/virus/gas/bullshit could be made to get that effect. I'm not a scientist or anything, but I figure if we can learn to grow organs with stem cells, we can probably figure out a way to make zombies.
Now, why would someone even bother to research this, let alone release it? Chemical warfare. Think of it, the military barricades a city shut, drops some sort of dirty bomb releasing the virus into the air. From there on, the city would tear it's self apart from the inside. The barricade could keep the epidemic enclosed in the target area, but c'mon. Zombies always find away to spread.
In the event of the zombie apocalypse, what would your plan be? Would you stay home and try to stick it out with what food and ammo you have? Would you risk going out to your car? I honestly believe once you find a vehicle you can stay on the move and be safe, but you always gotta fill up at some point. Would you take any steps to reconstruct society? Create a homestead for survivors? Find and operate a radio broadcast station?
My friend and I actually, in the lot of spare time we had, came up with an entire plan for this situation. We did our homework. We have a box full of maps and notebooks and plans, just in case it could ever happen. I think our main idea was to head for excluded parts of the Rockies or for the coast.
Any thoughts or speculations are appreciated. I'm not this crazy guy that really believes this could/will happen, I just enjoy to speculate.
If anyone doesn't think this belongs in this section, move it. I think it ties in with humanities and society.

A co-worker and I sometimes talk about this and what we would do if we were at work when a zombie attack happened
If i was home I'd prob try to barricade myself in and get my dads guns from the basement.
As for the real possibility of this, I think it would be some sort of "solution" to stop death or bring back dead loved ones that will go horribly wrong rather than being meant as a chemical warfare agent.

I love thinking about this type of thing, I guess I would probably start off by going to all of my friends houses checking if they're ok and bringing them and their "loved ones" with me to start a shelter, because lets face it, Ireland isn't really the country for defence forces, I'd say the government would just go to britain for help. Well yeah checking on my friends would definitely be the first thing I'd do, more than likely the ppl I care for most first (you get me), then starting up a shelter, collecting food, supplies, things to use to defend ourselves with, I'm going unarmed coz thats just how I roll, who cares they're zombies.

On Topic: My cousin lives on the 2nd floor in a block of flats with one of those big metal doors, and he has a big metal gate onto his balcony, i would either lay low there and hope it passes, or B get in a car, and just stay on the move, remote places would have a petrol station so i could gas & go and even steal food from the garage its self, then off on the road again :/....but fuck im stuck on an island, well ain't we all but i mean Europe (- UK) is massive, and well America is the same :/

I'd run across the street, even if it was flooded with zombies to get to my best friend (pretty much the sister I never had) Lacey, then pile into the Explorer and tear off to some secure location where we could keep an eye out for rescue. As fun as it would be to tear into some stupid and slow zombies, I wouldn't be taking the risk. I think a lot of people fail to comprehend the level of psychological damage such an event would cause if it were to ever really occur... you may have shot that maniac murderer, but in a few days he's getting back up. And then there is your own fate: "You think he wants to walk around after he's dead? You think he wants to be one of those things?"
I always have this problem of thinking way too far into shit, and this is actually one of those times. I'm getting chills thinking about it.

I'd run down to the beach and call Poseidon to sail me to Japan and get Godzilla to come and take them out. Then party on a boat with T-Pain and a mermaid.
What? I can't pretend ridiculous things too? :3

The idea, to me, is that no matter what people do - everyone is fucked. Every zombie story out now has zombies surviving for months and years on end. I think it the new Dawn of the Dead it lasted 4 years, I think? Somewhere around there.
No way anyone's luck would really hold out that long unless they'd been planning for it for years, constantly buying tons of supplies, weapons, a suitable shelter etc.
'New material' out now suggests that extremely cold places would be better for humans because due to the lack of blood flow, zombies' bodies would, basically, not work. Their bodies would lock up on them.
A zombie apocalypse has been in my head for over a decade. It's just NOW become a huge thing in the past 5 years or so, I'd say. I've been mentally planning for it for years, myself.
I plan to move north to Canada one day, real, real up north, not because of zombies but because I love the cold. It's against all safety regulations but if I had the money I'd hire a private contractor to build me a small brick house with only one window made of shatter-proof glass and just like I Am Legend it'd have a steel slide that I could snap shut in a pinch, a large basement, and would stock it with years and years of foods, like canned goods, evaporated milk, etc. I'd have my own generator, the new ones that do not run on oil.
If I could I'd bring only a handful of people with me. I don't like any of my family, so they can burn. I'd just bring the few good friends I've kept over the years.

The only problem I see here is if the brain is useless then they wouldnt even care about eating people. I know the thread is just for fun and everything but I really don't see "people eating zombies" ever being a possibility, maybe mindless people just sitting there.

The comic The Walking Dead is actually kinda cool in that regard. Basically, the split up the zombies into different categories with the majority doing just that - just doing absolutely nothing. Sitting around, moaning, looking around. Not moving about, searching for 'food' etc.
Also, a large majority seem to stay in areas they resided. Ie, you would be hard-pressed to find a zombie from Chicago walking around in Columbus, OH. In that comic, only a small minority of zombies are 'roamers' which basically are constantly on the move looking for things to kill.
But, my belief is kind of the same way. The brain is one of the first things to rot away, isn't it? If destroying a brain kills, then most zombies should be dead relatively quickly.
'Lore' suggests that the virus that is responsible for reanimating the corpse also acts as a type of embalming fluid - preserving the brain while the rest of the body rots off.

Nice reference :D
Also I dunno, i'm not big on the whole Zombie idea, but if it ever happened I would be fucked because we don't own weapons in our homes here and our homes aren't that sturdy, not in my neighbourhood anyway they could get in if they wanted. I'd rather die from a Zombie attack rather than something boring like a heart attack

It actually happens now. There are parasites that are able to be consumed which can take over the minds of animals and insects, usually the outcome is death to the host body but the parasite just transfers between bodies.
It doesn't really cause the animals or insects to go out and eat each other but they're practically the same type of zombies, in films its usually a virus that takes over the body and causes violent cannibalistic behavior... Just this is a parasite, a worm.
Its just a matter of time until a parasite can control humans... There probably is somewhere in the world, its just its kept under wraps to save people from panicking... Or it simply hasn't been discovered yet.

:/ Nice!
I would load up my van with as many supplies and uninfected friends/family/survivors as I could. I would then high tail it to the nearest Cabelas/ Bass Pro shop and just hunker down. There are enough guns in one of those stores to outfit a militia. They also have enough food/ ammo to last for years.

yeerks!!!
I'd probably try to leave the city

I actually registered just to reply to this topic. The book at this link: http://www.thinkgeek.com/books/humor/7838/ Is a realistic and thought out set of guidelines for what to do in the event of a real zombie apocalypse. If nothing else, it's a great read.
Personally, I'm prepared for a zombie apocalypse. It's not zombies specifically I'm ready for, but I'm prepared for almost any natural or unnatural disaster. My basement is reinforced; the whole house could collapse and the basement would be fine, and it's already loaded with canned food, bottled water, a generator, guns, etc. I'll bet I sound like a lunatic posting this, but...

i would probably join them and eat the non-infected.
All the resident evil games, i used to wish you could be a zombie, then Left 4 Dead was released and i was pleased.
It would seem like too much work to stay alive.
I would try and stay alive, then when its my time, i'll go without a fight.
