Years ago when I worked at a pet store, I always felt bad for the animals in cages and especially the fish in tanks. Their world was so small and contained and they didn't have the freedom to see the universe. Then I remembered they have smaller capacity for memory, so everything is new to them.

Well yesterday I was feeling very contained, and had lost my perspective on life. I was repeating my old mistakes, as humans do. Every so often I get into a dry spot where I feel lost and not connected to my spirit.

Then I took an opportunity to visit a friend's house. At her place, she had a fish tank, and I commented how sad it is that they are stuck in a tank. Ironically, I once again remembered that they are constantly forgetting their world and re-learning it again at every turn.

So, I wonder, aren't we like fish in that regard, constantly forgetting and re-learning our steps on the path of life? That we repeat the same mistakes because we often get too focused on one aspect, instead of keeping the broader prospective of life at all times? And how grateful I am that I have the freedom to move about and see new things, as well as having a larger memory to make fewer repeated mistakes.

You are right, to be honest, those statements & feelings had a good incredible influence on me, I agree with you...

That's pretty inspiring too be honest. I agree though with the fact that we constantly need to relearn our worlds every single day, and this is why is it important to motivate and inspire yourself EVERYDAY.

Hmm...I thought it was common practise to learn from your mistakes. That's what I do. I have made some mistakes in my life...by mistakes I mean some absolute stonkers...but I don't repeat them. It's not even that I just try to not repeat them - I just don't do it again.

Lolwat, fish don't have a short memory. They can remember pretty long.

Quote from wikipedia:
"In 1994, a public experiment at the Palais de la Découverte science museum showed that goldfish could be trained to recognize and to react to light signals of different colors by using positive reinforcement. More recent research by the School of Psychology at the University of Plymouth in 2003 demonstrated that goldfish have a memory-span of at least three months and can distinguish between different shapes, colors and sounds. They were trained to push a lever to earn a food reward; when the lever was fixed to work only for an hour a day, the fish soon learned to activate it at the correct time. Mythbusters tested the myth that goldfish only had a memory span of 3 seconds and were able to prove that goldfish had a longer memory span than commonly believed. It was evident that they were able to remember the way and that they therefore had a memory span of over three seconds.A study at the start of the 2000's showed that fish do actually respond to certain colours, this is most evident when it comes to feeding as fish are also aware of feeding times provided they are fed at around the same time everyday."

Take your own conclusions man, those fish are trapped, even though the above is about goldfish I'm pretty sure it counts for about every fish.

I didn't know that fish were that smart.

I wish it was possible to communicate with animals. Some pets have such personality, it would be so interesting to hear what they have to say.

There are ways to "communicate" with animals I've learned. Not verbally obviously, and no, I'm not talking about furries.

You even can verbally. Dogs understand the difference between "Sit" and "Shit" and (hopefully) only respond to "Sit".

What I meant was if you could sit down and have a talk with your dog that has been observing your life for years... you know? It would be interesting to hear the pet's perspective.

No offense, but that sounds like bull. I make it a god-damned point to remember my mistakes.

I'd say we're more like the entire line of evolution. Always on the way forward, using the knowledge of our very weaknesses to build strengths. There is no exact point I evolved from, and there's no point where I will finish evolving. I'm going to continue to morph for the better for my entire life. Of course there are some fuck-ups out there like say...Oh I don't know, the turkey?

I have a feeling my dog would be more annoying if it could talk. It would probably never shut up and talk about the stupidest shit I don't care about. Or something like...

"Hey man, you ever tried licking your own balls? It's ace, dawg."

It's possible to communicate with dogs through mental visualization, apparently. My dog can never figure it out, but he's a pretty stupid dog. That and you really gotta hone those kind of skills. I've been trying to meditate again, but my third eye has become so damn weak, I can't get far.
