I just updated the driver for my graphics card and I got a noticeable performance boost in GTA IV. It's still pretty unplayable, but it does give hope for some people:

I just updated the drivers on my 2007 iMac (2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, X2600 256MB) to the latest versions offered by ATi using the DriverHeaven Mobility Modder tool. I got about a 10fps increase over the originals.

Here are the 3 benchmarks I have done. First one was using the drivers supplied on the Leopard disc, the second one was performed using the updated Boot Camp drivers from ATi.com and the third was using the absolute latest ATi drivers.

A further GTA IV specific driver update is coming from ATi on Wednesday.

The game is now bearable, and I think I will begin to play. I'm trying it out on my 2.0GHz Aluminium MacBook in a moment, although I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the direction of how to modify nVidia's latest drivers to work on the machine.

Thanks for reminding me about updating the drivers, that changed my framerate from 'tolerable' to 'enjoyable'.

Those Beta Nvidia Driver didn't do anything for me almost, ATi's is going to dominate performance probably
