I think this is a new problem, but there is a good chance i just didn't notice it before; either way it bugs the hell out of me now.
Here's the situation I can get it to repeat itself best. I am saved at Sunshine Autos, grab a car and exit right then take the first right. As I pass the police station or shortly thereafter on the main road, the game pauses for a second to load, and continues on. Normal, it can't hold the whole city in memory :P. Here is what isn't normal. For that first part of driving, up until it loads, the game runs smooth as butter on the breakfast toast. As soon as it has to load, however, it gets choppy, sort of like a lower framerate but not quite. As if it's going 3 frames pause 2 frames pause 3 frames pause (instead of just slower or less frames). Know what I mean?
The mods I've installed shouldn't be causing it - a couple of bikes. I'm downloading new display drivers now, but it seems like if it were them then it would run bad all the time not just after it has to load a new area. My hunch is that the game is trying to load too much at once. My draw distance is at like 3 notches (1/3rd). I have an Athlon 2500 XP processor and a Radeon 7200 (64mb). Not an earth shattering video card but it's enough, isn't it?
Any ideas?
