View Full Version : Sleep Paralysis?

Ugh dunno what happened when I went to sleep. It was like 6:20AM (I stood up all night), so I decided to go to sleep and wake up around like 11. I was laying there, and I felt extreme pressure on my chest and head, like someone was sitting on me. I couldn't open my eyes.. but I could see everything? Felt like I was in this state forever, but the clock said like 6:23. It was the weirdest thing ever. I could see myself laying there... Then I had a nightmare, I was in some basement thing.. and something happened and I grabbed my valuable things, ran out and started running down the street. My mom randomly showed up and started yelling at me, but I couldn't hear anything at all (being deaf is a fear of mine, idk), and started freaking out. I was crying and screaming, it was horrible. I woke up sweating really bad, and I was scared for some reason. Did I experience Sleep Paralysis, or was it all a dream? :S

You know, I haven't experienced exactly what you have, but I have had some similar things happen to me. I honestly think those kind of experiences are dreams, but I could be wrong.

Well, if it was a dream, I hope it doesn't happen again. And if it IS sleep paralysis, I'm fucked. :(

Yeah, it did sound pretty fucking weird, and it is.

I've gotten the same thing. It's a horrible feeling.

It only ever seems to happen to me when my breathing is blocked to some extent (laying in a position where my nose is pushed into the pillow).

One time I was laying on my back in bed and was attempting to get up. Instead of opening my eyes and getting out of bed as intended, I rose up toward the ceiling and my room felt much larger. It was as dark in my room in sort of an ethereal way. I got to the staircase, heard my mom talking and peered down the stairs. Around that time I woke up and realized my room looked exactly as I just saw it (but of course in daylight).

Pretty confusing, that experience.

I had one before. I was able to open my eyes but I couldn't move my body. It was the scariest thing ever. I try to scream as hard as I could but couldn't. I thought I was being possessed :p

It happened to me several times. It didn't last long though until I can move again. Don't worry man. It's just a mechanism your brain controls in order to prevent body movements when you're dreaming. As a matter of fact, we all have sleep paralysis every night, but we just sleep through it. Sometimes you just wake up before that mechanism stops, either because of exhaustion or may be being "half"-awake.

Hey Jim_Genius5, that makes a lot of sense:) Now that I think about it, that really does seem like what happens.

I had someting similar when I was very young. I tried to scream aswell, but a faint squeek was all sound I managed to produce.

I completely forgot about that untill I read your post. Weird..

I remember reading a Wikipedia article about this, it's natural. Although I'm sure constantly waking with sleep paralysis isn't, should see a doctor if it's a problem.
