Now I know that many of you were angry that I posted that thread with the Newt Gingrich video, but I had to make an honest thread about possibly the most important issue in the upcoming election, and yet no one gives a shit about it!

Look at Detroit as it was in 1965
Warning, this may be the creepiest video you may ever see.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4807895228045391216&q=detroit+in+the+50s&ei=nc56SKCcKJfA4AKO8fGPCw&hl=en

And here is Detroit as it is now, with many great additions, yet also clouded by the scars of riots, murders, and political scandals.

http://detroityes.com/home.htm

The city was once very great, very populated, very nice, and very important. Now, sadly, it is a scum filled shit hole.

By next week, I will post my vision for the future of Detroit, until then, what do you guys think that the world should do with the Motor City?

How is Detroit is the most important issue in the upcoming election?

The reason why people give backlash on your threads is because they are region-specific. The 99% of posters who are not from the Detroit area have no idea what you are talking about and have no way of constructively contributing to your threads.

Once again, when you start a thread it's up to you to open the discussion. You haven't really said anything to engage a response.

Yeah, it's a bad city, but how is it the most important issue? I think issues like the troops in Iraq, oil prices, foreclosure rates, and the suffering national economy are more important (albeit all inter-related).

It is the most important issue because it ma represent the future of this country and where it is heading. It is important because it was one of the foundations of this country's Industry. It is the only city ever to not just go below a million in population, yet it also has been the only city ever to lose 900,000 people! The true reason Why Detroit is the most important issue is because it has been ignored by the rest of the nation and the world for years now, and this is the opportunity for it to be heard. And its not just Detroit, its all the Cities in the "Rust Belt" yet Detroit has been a casulaty of poverty and undergraduate rates for too long now. It is important in the election because it very could be the future of the ENTIRE nation if you pick the wrong leaders in the wrong spots. Its not just Detroit, Its not jsut Michigan, and Its not just Michigan. This whole country may turn into our (current) shit hole area, and we need to grow some fucking IQ points and actually think. Its time we dont act stupid for once and actually care about the issues. Iraq, Gas, Housing Market, these all have been issues in the past elections, and have they fixed them yet, NO! They've only made them worse, from both sides. And yet the have ignored the parts of this nation that have suffered severaly. For crying out loud Kodo, in 2006,Voters had to make a choice between a Wayne County Attorney and a Billionair Businessman to fix a shitty economy, and they picked the one that was supposed to lose. WTF! There are no more party politics, this city, this state, this contry, and this whole fucking world is just fucked up! Nobody is willing to do anything, people elect currupt morons who just make things worse.

This is the worse thing I could ever say, but sadly, this [I]is/I] the truth. Sometimes, I dont like how everone gets the right to vote, because they dont understand why they get to vote, and they may never will.

What is either McCain or Obama supposed to do about Detroit? We have city politics in place so that the federal government doesn't deal with those sorts of things. The rest of your claims and statements are pretty outrageous. Going off about how everybody is "fucked up" just because they didn't vote for the candidate you wanted is... well... pretty fucked up. Get off your high horse and realize that not everybody agrees with you, no matter how "right" you think you are.

tonyworton, nobody is going to listen to a 16 year old make voting judgments when he doesn't even have the right to vote. There's a reason adults have the right to vote and you don't.

I remember what it was like to be 16 and think you have national politics all figured out. But even with some more years and a greater understanding, I still don't pretend to know everything the way you do.

Also, I want to add, why did you say the world doesn't care? Globally speaking, do you care about the economy and politics of some random city on another continent? Do you expect the whole world to be watching and caring for Detroit? Or nationally, do you follow every election across the country on a state level? Senator Obama has something like ~85% of the black vote. He has visited Detroit and voters want him so clearly he has plans to help the region. Also realize that if the economy is aided on the national level it will of course improve on the state level.

...thats pretty interesting, but that happens with time to alot of major cities.

::EDIT:: MAYBE NOT TO THAT EXTENT.

So I heard the Detroit mayor is on his way to prison and some of his aides were charged for corruption in the past.
It's like a real-life Gotham City!

In Gotham City, the only law the mayor breaks is using too much mascara.

It's a shame Detroit went this way, but I don't feel there's much of a threat to it happening to other cities this day and age. Also, it looks like tonyworton is looking in the wrong places for solutions; do you really think Obama or McCain will bother trying to fix the Detroit problem with onlt four years guaranteed office?

Tony this isn't just onc city, it's a widespread thing throughout the great lakes. just about any city that was related to car manufacturing, such as Buffalo, Erie PA, Flint, etc are struggling. it's called the "Rust Belt," and it's an issue that's been known about for decades, so you're not exactly making any strong points.

This is the fate facing alot of western european countries if they dont put regulations on their immigration laws.

On a higher not I believe we should let them have factory jobs, as developed countries all I citizen should strive for better jobs that require higher education. Even if you somehow do keep immigrants out in a couple decades they will just be taken by robots (seriously).
