EU president Nicholas Sarkozy is gonna push ahead, regardless of the Irish no vote. The treaty needed all 27 states to ratify it. Furthermore he will not let any new countries join the EU unless Ireland ratify...sounds like blackmail to me. He is visiting Ireland in 10 days to discuss the treaty. It's a fucking joke the EU preaches democracy but when we hold a fair vote that doesn't please them they ignore us entirely.

From what I've heard (not a whole lot popping up in the news) it was a treaty that would have affected the Irish constitution. Anything that can change Ireland's constitution goes to a public vote.
Two of the concerns expressed were over their taxes (commercial I believe) and the religious element (gay marriages and abortion.)
Can you explain it better Lynk or Jay?
I don't know tbh, I'm moving to Canada/Japan.

Well, what I like about the EU is that it's totally ruining the US economy, sort of.
But the EU is scary though. It wants to unite European countries to a similar extend as the United States.. but I personally don't care about the citizens from other EU-countries, especially the Eastern ones. I'm not down with the pan-European identity.
And it's also trying to become a Economic/neo-Imperialistic power-block just like the US, which ofcourse sounds totally awesome when you think about it. But the danger is that Europeans are usually believed to be smart, handsome and sophisticated but in reality most of Europe is more retarded that the US deep South, etc.
