View Full Version : SA To Use HDD
Im not sure many people new this...but i thought it was interesting to know.
this is from IGN:
GTA to Use the Hard Disc Drive?
A few well-connected folks who have friends at Rockstar North have told IGN that the next GTA will use Sony's upcoming HDD (Hard-Disc Drive, due out in March as a bundle pack with Final Fantasy XI). While we honestly have a hard time believing any of the rumors constantly surrounding the next GTA, this one is very credible. Rockstar wants to show the world that this next iteration is no add-on, and it's built up such a commotion, it now has a lot to live up to. Our contact suggests the HDD will enable players to store ripped music to be played on the numerous vehicle radio stations. It could be used for add-on new vehicles, and possibly even modifiable missions, too. That last one, well, we're a little leery of that happening. But it will be interesting either way.
this is really cool because then it can almost be a never ending supply of missions. I really hope this isnt another rumor...but it sounds like it shouldnt be.

kewl, but i don't think you'll be able to get new missions and stuff, maybe the HDD will be only used to upload music into it and listen to your music while playing the game the bad news is most people who own a PS2 won't even bother to buy a HDD

i forget, but is sony releasing a ps2 with the hdd included? or is it just the one with the network adapter? either way i wanna get the hdd cuz i wanna play ffXI
So you're basically saying that you can buy a Hard Disk Drive for you PS2.. That's cool. I'll probably get one.
And you were saying that you do some simple mods with it?!

im not really sure about the mods.... like i said, maybe SA will take advantage of the HDD in the ways you can put your music in and listen to it while playing SA

An HDD feature in SA would be fantastic. This would benefit PC modders and Action Replay hackers alike if it came with this option.
However, Rockstar has repeately said that the radio stations play a big part in the GTA series so wouldn't the feature of uploading your own music taint the whole concept of having default radio stations in SA?
Unless, You were to listen to the default stations first then after your bored or tired of them upload your own tracks. The possibilities are endless O_O
my cousin and friends all bought the HDD and said you cant upload music.
at least...yet.

i would love to see mods. that would be awesome to have for the ps2. and as far as having your own music in the game, i could care less about that.

Awesome! I can't wait to see if it actually uses the HDD or not. If it does, I'll be able to hear my radio stations on the PS2 version, and GTA3/VC music! And possibly transfer skin files and other stuff. Hell yeah.

Don't you have to pay like 12 bucks a month for those?

My friend has HDD and he pays money once a month.

that's the good thing about ps2 though, you don't have to pay a monthly fee like on xbox. i mean if you allready have the internet and are paying for it why do you have to shell out more cash for it?

Doesn't matter how much, it's the fact that I have to pay a friggin' monthly fee that blows.

If Rockstar decides to use the HDD for SA, it might give us the players a bunch of features like custom music, some modding, etc, but I don't think many people are willing to buy a 100 dollar device just to play the game, well rich kids maybe, or ones with enough age to get a job.
I think one of the previous posters was right that Rockstar(or Sony) will probably pay a harsh price if they decide to do this, cause sales wont be as big. Just think of it, here, a new game would cost about 58/60 dollars, and add a 100 dollar HDD to that... it'd be too expensive. And as much as I love GTA, and as much as I dream about all the feats. SA might have, I'm not buying it if it needs a 100 dollar HD. Maybe a year later for PC, if they decide to sell it in PC.

IF they do it, I hope it's optional to be compatible with it.
PyroHazard

Yea having an optional will be better than having it as a mandatory feature like with that new FF game.

I don't think R* is dumb enough to do that.
