View Full Version : Weird Startup Problem

When I try and start Vice City, the CD is in and can be accessed, so I double click on the Vice City Icon, the CD spools up and the little loading icon of a CD spins (on the cursor).....then nothing!
This is a really recent problem as until recently Vice City worked fine, even with MTA. Its really irritating, and I've tried re-installing and still the same problem.
Grrrr....I really love vice city, and Playing MTA rules!
Any ideas?!?!?!

No man - my Vice CD isn't a copy - i've had the game for 6 months, and this problem only just started like really recently after I hadn't played it in ages.
In fact the problem started after I had to re-install Vice City because MTA didn't like the mods that I had installed.
Do you think the no-cd hack will work even with a proper CD?

Ok - tried the No-cd hack to see if it would work, and it doesn't.
This is really annoying, and I have tried re-installing vice several times, in different locations and everything. Also I know my computer is fine, because loads of other games work perfect!!!!

Is your CD scratched? Is your CD-ROM working OK? has your CD become warped or damaged in anyway?
Merlyn, edit you posts from now on aswell. Since you're new, I won't give you warnings for now. But next time I will, so don't double post anymoe ok.

Sorry bout the double post - just being a bit dopey.
The CD drive is working fine, as I can use other games fine, and none of my system has changed spec/no new drivers. The actual CD-rom seems fine, no major scratches or anything.
What I think i'll do is if no-one has any other ideas i'll email R* see if they have any ideas. Also I might try installing on a different computer.
Anyway - anyone had a similar problem/ideas about solutions?
EDIT - New News - just tried using my copy of GTA 3 - and guess what? the same F*cking problem.
Could this be a DirectX kind of a problem - about when these problems started was after I installed FarCry (but farcry didn't install a new version of DirectX!). I've checked my system, and I did a DxDiad thing, and this came out:
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0b (4.09.0000.0902)
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
So directX 9.0b, but does anyone understand DX setup parameters bit?
Please help, i'm gonna have to go out and commit real crime soon if I can't get my virtual fix.......
Another Edit - Just got some even newer drivers for my video card, and now Vice City starts ok - loads up fine and I can hear the menu music, but on my Screen it says "Cannot display this video mode". Obviously this is a graphics card problem. Has anyone else had this kind of problem? My Card is a nVidia Geforce 4 MX 420, 64MB.

Okey then - just sorted the problem and Vice is working again! Seems my Gta_VC.set file was screwed. Thing is - I have the same resolution problem with GTA3 - could someone send me the gta3.set file (I think it's called) for 1024x768 resolution
