set up free roam with options with a party of my friends. I tried party mode but it didn't have any options

I could be wrong but do you start a party mode then bring up your phone for free roam and hit that? That should transport all your players to free roam. I don't know I'm at work atm so I cant try it 1st hand, but thats how you start other matches. Might check in "player match" option too.
