so i have started growing my hair recently, not really done it before but for those of you that have did you just leave it to grow naturally into a style or let it get to a certain length then get it styled? Thinking i need to get mine styled, looking kinda weird now. I'll check the thread in a while, off out for dinner now :].

I let mine grow when I was 15 cuz I was hard and didn't care. But it loses it's shape. It's trying to get the imbetween period when your hair looks wicked and long. It last for two weeks then you feel like you should get it cut.

I swap all the time. I keep it long during the winter then cut it in when it gets hot. I used to have it really long though, like down to the bottom of my shoulder blades. Now it's like something out of the eighties. . . Long and puffy.

I really like having long hair, mine reaches my armpits. I cut 5-10 cm off of it once or twice in a year.

I've had long hair for quite a while now. My hair is quite thick, curly and frizzy though, so it was a bitch to keep looking decent. Got it cut down to a more manageable length today - sorta jaw-line length. Used to be past my shoulders. I'm still deciding whether or not I like it though. Looks quite feminine imo, I've gotta have a tinker by putting various products into it to see if I can man it up a bit. Might just get it short again though.

Well, keyword being 'style'. I just dislike haircuts so I stopped getting a haircut. It reaches the base of my neck now, and I just wake up every morning, hold my head under the shower for a minute or two, comb it down, shake my head, part it roughly to the sides, let it dry. Good to go.

There's not really a lot of effort involved.

Edit: I feel I should point out that I shower at night, so I do wash it.

Just grow it out, there's no need to style. Just trim every once in a while to get rid of split ends and stuff.

My morning hair-related routine consists of shower, shampoo, dry with towel, comb, then part to side. Occasionally I'll straighten for the hell of it, but natural hair is the easiest and laziest way out.

So by the looks of it, everyone who has long hair doesn't bother with style. They just let it flop down their head?

What are the rules on ponytails?

Clayton
03-17-2008, 01:11 PM
I personally never ever wear a ponytail. I'm not one of the guys who thinks that guys shouldn't have ponytails or whatev, it's just...not for me. If ever I'm working and need it back out of my face I just tie it back in a bandana.

But yeah, mine's just...down, and to the sides. It's naturally insanely curly anyway, so it looks kinda cool without having to try. Reminds me of Ronnie James Dio's hair, only mine's not frizzy and all skanky.

Pignoah

Yeah I tend to go short/long/short/long and constantly switch. It's the middle ground I like best, none of that flowing down my back shit.

My hair's kind of styled really.

I've just let mine grow out a bit, then cut it etc..

Done that for about 3 years I guess.. Not what you wanna do if you want it long fast.. I haven't cut mine in about half a year I think. This is where it's at now:

see i condition and shampoo it daily and i think that does help with it falling into style. Guess i am just going to have to let it grow a bit more and see what happens. Looks like a bit of a mess at the back at the moment though.

You're lucky then. I've got a double crown so my hair won't stay where I put it. When it's short I will have the bedhead look, but it falls out after an hour. Now it's long again I'm trying to grow it backwards but after an hour, it looks like I've just had my fingers in a plug socket.

At work today my hair was so springy people were stopping to look and laugh. So tomorrow it's hat day!

Cut the back and sides a bit, but just leave the fringe. That's my style, anyway.

I'm going for the typical "metalhead" style now, past my shoulders. I haven't done it before, so why not?

Like this (http://www.metalwiki.com/images/0/06/Burzum.jpg) but blonde if anyone needs a visual. :P

This (http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/7571/aaabc6.jp g) was pretty much the peak of my hair before I decided to cut it. I miss it. :(

i think that was as long as mine got, maybe a tiny bit longer.

theres a point where it goes from being as long as short hair can be, and then it grows a little more, and its not long, its not short, it's sort of in limbo. it's at that point that it just doesn't look good no matter what you do.

when i was growing it, i left it, it looked bad but eventually it started to look good again. at the moment, im getting to that point, and i cant take it looking shite, so i cut it.

theres 2 choices you can make also, you can cut the sides of your hair, and have a longer fringe, which you can then have cut to be as long as the sides so it's even, or you can cut the fringe and have longer sides. eventually it will pan out the same, but it's about the look you want while growing it.

i really don't feel like reading every post in here, so i'm gonna assume this hasn't been said: i think that natural is a lot nicer looking than really styled hair.

Hadn't be said and i do agree to a certain point.

I grew my hair a couple of years ago. I didn't style it or anything, I just grew it...and well...just grew it.

I decided to cut it off cos I got fed up from all the hair in my face and people calling me Sorin, you know that argentinian football player with the big hair do.

I shave my hair now. Buzzcut ftw.

My hair is wavy, so i can dry it to get out of my eyes (its down to my mouth) and it looks nice and still is easy to manage. (i have weird wavy, not straight, hair)

I used to have long hair, around shoulder length I guess. What you need to do for your hair depends on how it grows, and how you want it to look. I was just a really lazy person, and just didn't cut my hair for a year. Then I cut it really short. Find the way you want your hair to look (an inspiration) and go for it. My friend spent a year growing his hair and beard so he could be Jesus for Halloween.

I think either this or the one below it was when it was at it's longest.

Same shirt, different day. It's shorter now.

Edit: Also, these pictures are from this past summer.

wow that is crazy! On a side note, how tall are you?

Lucky
03-18-2008, 04:47 PM
I'm 5'9, but I'm not done growing yet either. I hope to be at least 5'11 eventually...

Though in the picture, I might be 5'7 or 5'8 as I did grow during the summer.

timbob
03-18-2008, 04:50 PM
oh right, thought you were taller than that, that is how it looks in the picture.

You should try to shower without using conditioner, it's much better for your hair. Also don't use shampoo everytime you shower, only once in 3 days.

I've gone a month without washing my hair. It just got really greasy and was easy to make shapes with. It actually looked awful thinking back over it. I wash my hair most days now, it isn't exactly long but I'm regrowing it.

i haven't used any washing product in my hair for over 6 months , its not greasy or dirty :) you wouldn't be able to tell that i don't wash it if you felt it.

The key with long hair is if its thick and curly , you might wanna straighten it because it gets really bushy at the back and looks like shit, If you don't wanna straighten it then get it thinned at least to get rid of the bushy areas.
The best is if its naturally straight, its alot easier to style if its naturally straight and looks best.

i had hair around to my shoulder blades and mines naturally curly and thick. But i got it cut about 2 weeks ago to just about covering my neck now.

back in my sorta emo days, that was the first time i grew my hair. The second time which was about 2 weeks ago it was maybe 4 inches longer

I am not going to grow it to the point where it is down to my shoulders, don't think my hair is able to do that anyway, just kind of over my eyes a bit.
